In my two years on SL, I've only allowed two people to see where I am. But even so, I don't see why you would. Is it a trust issue? Are there practical reasons for doing it?

It used to be that every friend had the ability to maptrack you. Although I don't like maptracking at all, I did have some funny experiences with it. I used to know flocks of ninja boys who, every once in a while, would all drop on to my head without warning.
It's duller now, but I have to say I can't stand it when even good friends track me without speaking to me first. _____________________

When they decided to add half a dozen worthless options to the friends list instead of implementing the "log in offline" option that they still haven't bothered to put in, it took me a couple of HOURS to go through my friends list and turn on mapping for everyone again.
What is it about Linden Labs that they have to implement something twice as complicated as anyone actually asked for, while leaving out the option that everyone actually needs? _____________________

Nope, although if I'm home it's pretty obvious that I'm there. I have an open door policy and it seems to have the interesting effect. No one ever comes by unannounced, they always ask first.

I'm from the days when everyone could see you. So, at first, when they turned on mapping, I set it so that all my friends could continue to see me.
Then a few incidents occurred that demonstrated I was at times, endangering (seems like too severe a word) the privacy of others, so now it mostly only occurs with a few very trusted friends. _____________________

Ya same here..I really didn't care if people were dropping in back then..It was easy for people to get to me when i was shopping..It felt normal to have map on back then..
But after a few drama sessions i quickly started to fade it out on my friends list.. _____________________

In 2006 this wasn't an option. If you weren't comfortable with someone being able to map you, you didn't add that person as a friend. when did they change it? maybe i was kicking people off my friends list then lol i could swear there was a time when map on was something you could turn off but came with the option on.. but now that you mention it i do remember having some people on my list that i couldn't hide from lol _____________________

Anybody that I wouldn't trust with my map location isn't somebody who would end up on my friends list anyway. Unless I have some reason to turn it off, everybody on my friends list can map me.
