Gonna miss it.

Everyone who was here when SL was young will miss it. We were a part of something very special and wonderful.

Of course all those 2003 accounts are conviced that WE ruined it for THEM ;)

This is why I said if a company introduced a virtual world with the only intention of being a virtual world, even if its technology was only SL 2005 level.

They would steal a chunk of Second Life's business

And also why a competing virtual world makes as much sense as a "Safe Haven" group of Islands.

The only ones doing anything to further their agenda would be the 3D web types.
Sort of reminds me of how the Native Americans were treated. I know that's an aweful stretch... but as a metaphor it seems to work in my mind.

Not happy about Linden Labs purchase of XStreet (formerly SLX) and OnRez. Will this mean LL will ban resident run online shoping outlets in favor of their own?

lmao - I meant it only as a metaphor... perhaps it wasn't exactly politically correct? I dunno... the comparison (in a virtual world, watered down sense) seemed to fit.

I agree to an extent.

But consider:
How many people still use black & white televisions?
How many people still listen to music on 8 track tapes?
How many people still view movies on Betamax?

People like shiny. They like advances in technology. Even if we did have SL the way it was (music cue: The Way We Were) as soon as some new shiny came out that was hard to resist, the flow would start over to the competitor.

Not necessarily if the More advanced one was littered with ads , corporate involvement, search bots, land bots, lack of respect for the concepts of privacy, etc.

Sure SL would be the bigger draw in this case, but the "Anti-corporate" Virtual World would have a loyal, niche fan base.
