Here is a very interesting Promo for the CSI:NY episode Oct 24th starring SL as a location.

Even if I had never heard about SL, I would be trying to get in to see this.

What do you think?

Hang on tight everyone...the floodgates are going to blow!!!!!

I'm anxious to see how much the population changes after this airs at the end of the month and then another one in January.

Wow. GREAT job Electric Sheep! Fabulous avatars, machinima, amazing. NYT article on it:

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/04/arts/television/04CSI.html?_r=1&ex=1192161600&en=6994ec8ad88ab2d8&ei=5070&oref=slogin

The article talks about 3 followon SL promo experiences, including a CSI inworld game of some sort that won't wrap up until a February episode.

Could this be the beginning of corporations who finally really "get it"? We can only hope.

It has less to do with corporations that "get it"...and more to do with the ability of the grid to handle another round of immigration.
I've been playing...or, rather thrashing around, in SL's newest "game" - the "I Am Legend: Survival" sims, done by the Electric Sheep Company. When I'm almost alone in a sim...everything performs well, but as soon as about a half-dozen or so people arrive - everything hangs. The lag is incredible - and region crossings really bite the big one.

So...LL had better step up, rikki-tiki. Or else the only thing which will be achieved is a showcase of a laggy, poorly-scaled, crash-prone platform inhabited only by the uber-est of geeks - all shuffling around and running into invisible walls, all to the surreal chorus of whining, faceless voices provides

Yay!

You're right. It wont help that a corporation finally gets it when LL doesn't get it. This could be the best and worst publicity they've ever received.

killjoys!;) every test the grid yet maketh stronger. ;) here's more:
http://ugotrade.com/

i'm really, really, really not a fan at all of most commercial tv anymore, but will probably give it (and the office:) a novelty watch.

maybe should start an 'in the media' sticky or something keeping latest/upcoming sightings posted. :)

Bandwagon...... jump.... shrug...... I'm so happy that a few thousand people will join SL to emulate the stars of a third-rate TV series. Whoop as they realise it takes more than 30 seconds to get the hang of SL..... gasp in surprise as they give up, retire to the sofa and watch more crap tv...... As we say in the UK, "Does my face look bothered?"

To be honest, they didn't have much to beat after their hideous Ben & Jerry's monstrosity. Whoever associated ice cream with bovine excrement needs taking outside and shooting. It should come with a warning to turn down the brightness on your monitor before visiting.

Not precisely given "I am Legend" is also an awsome idea and works well.

That's another Electric Sheep enterprise of course.

I love the Vegas CSI, but the NY and Miami versions don't do it for me. Pass.

Not happy about Linden Labs purchase of XStreet (formerly SLX) and OnRez. Will this mean LL will ban resident run online shoping outlets in favor of their own?

It's interesting that both Legend and this CSI are set in NYC. I assume this was a blessed relief to Electric Sheep.

The Cisco product placement is completely huge, I thot for a bit it was part of the plot.

ES is certainly not shy in its own placements. They got the New York Times to imply that they develop all the sims in SL, lol. Nice plug!

I wonder how they priced the machinima? In SL, not only do you get the animated game sequence, but you get the potential for followon SL game action, like CSI is doing.

I imagine that even with postprocessing machinima may be a LOT cheaper than an equivalent length classic animated sequence -- is this true or not?

What was the show that SLish thing was in that I (apparently luckily) missed? I thought that was CSI. I tend not to watch network shows so I'm probably confusing the two.

Welcome centers (?) should be interesting places next week.

Law ond Order:SVU is the one you are referring to. I have it recorded, but I haven't watched it yet.

That was Special Victims Unit...is that a CSI show, though? Not sure to be honest, although I did DVR and watch it.

ESC's license to use a commercial, proprietary viewer has inspired some controversy around the potential for the ESC viewer to replace LL Search with an alternate advertising channel. But personally, I don't see this as a serious threat: anybody with a Search-crippled client is gonna ditch it after a few hours in-world.

On the other hand, if ESC has the smarts to bot-scrape all LL's Classified and Places ad copy and front-end it with content-based search instead of dwell-gamed rankings... then I guess that would be my new browser. :p

No, SVU is part of the Law & Order franchise, which I believe is NBC. CSI is CBS.

Going a little off track here.. What ever happened to their thing that walked the grid and indexed every object that was marked for sale? Did this go poof?
