From: Cocoanut Koala Another vile Age Player, looking to exchange RL child pornography, handed over several shocking photos to the reporters and boasted that he could deliver thousands more. The photos, however, are now in the hands of the German authorities, who have launched an investigation. "We will try to put a name to this person. If we succeed in catching him, he can count on a jail term of three months to five years for third party possession of child pornography", said Peter Vogt, Chief Prosecutor at the Central Office Against Child Pornography in Halle.
All the age verification in the world won't stop that, and it should be prosecuted.

From: Cocoanut Koala To the question of whether or not this child porn was real, from the Avastar (bolding mine):
Thanks COCO - thats seems clear enough. And with the Robin Quote it seems clear that this is likely the reason Age Verifcation (promissed anyway) is coming now.

From watching that difficult-to-stream video, it is clear that the reporters were clearly shocked by the avatar sex. (Which also may be illegal in Germany, I don't know.) As indeed, many if not most people outside our peculiar sphere would be.
However, from the voice-over messing up Robin, I could not hear the part about instituting age verification.
Thus, I could make no cause-effect conclusions about this German thing and the institution of the new age-verification system.
However, I do think this is why we are getting the new age-verification system.
I also don't think it would ever have come to this had the Lindens not put the cart before the horse as usual, and decided to suddenly let in everyone without requiring any sort of verifiction at all - not even a working e-mail address.
Well, we got millions of people from that, yes. But also world-wide attention, including attention on the fact that there was no longer anything in place to identify players whatsoever.
So - it was kind of inevitable, the moment they threw open the doors.

From: Atashi Yue All the age verification in the world won't stop that, and it should be prosecuted. Identity Verification wont allow for prosecution either - Since its going to be optional. I suppose one of the guilty parties could have been so impossibly stupid enough not to use an unverified account to transfer those files.

From: Wrom Morrison So in short are you defending the age-players or the furries? What about the rape players? (ie. Midian city, Goreans etc). seems to me that it would be kinda hard to be raped in SL. TP home or log off! Don't be so daft.

I missed that post by Wrom but I'll say without any hesitation that YES, I am defending the ageplayers, rape players, furries, and everyone else who plays at things in SL that other people might find unpalatable. To do otherwise is not a rational position unless you're against all depictions of things that would be illegal or immoral in real life in the movies, in literature, in art, and anywhere else. I sometimes like to play Halo or other first person shooters. Shooting people in real life would be a crime. By the logic you're using games like halo are indefensible because they depict something that wouldn't be tolerated in the real world. If you can draw a distinction between people engaging in violent acts in videogames and in the real world, then you should also do the same for sexual kinks in SL, because there's no rational objective reason to make a distinction between the two. The reasons people do make that distinction comes from personal distaste and religious taboo.

From: Cocoanut Koala To the question of whether or not this child porn was real, fr Child porn scandal By Regis Braathens GERMAN authorities are investigating a shocking report uncovering RL child pornography in Second Life. In a month long investigation into Age Play in Second Life, reporters from the Report Mainz program on German TV channel ARD filmed sick scenes of adults paying for sex with and raping child-like girl avatars. One child avatar at an Age Play playground said: "I'm nine years old. Do you want to be my babysitter? Then you can rape me. I cost L$10 for ten minutes." Another vile Age Player, looking to exchange RL child pornography, handed over several shocking photos to the reporters and boasted that he could deliver thousands more. It is the second Age Play scandal to rock SL this year. At the beginning of March, The AvaStar spoke out against Age Play, and called for it to be banned. Editor-in-Chief Regis Braathens wrote: "We should be clear about this - there is no place for Age Play in real life, and there is no place for it in SL. It is wrong both morally and ethically and it should be stopped." In response, Linden Lab sent out notecards to offending parties in SL, stating that all advertising of Age Play is now banned. Yet few other effective measures appear to have been taken. Robin Linden, vice president of Linden Lab, has now vowed to take action. "We will find out who is behind this, and then inform the police", she promised. Read the FULL story and reaction in this week's issue of The AvaStar, available on Friday 11 May. Click here for the video from 'Report Mainz' If you want to voice your opinion, then send an email to regis@the-avastar.com. Based upon that info, it is apparent a German Citizen violated German law in Germany. No problem there.

One child avatar at an Age Play playground said: "I'm nine years old. Do you want to be my babysitter? Then you can rape me. I cost L$10 for ten minutes." First off. Ick ick ick. Now then, that exchange was ARable under "the notecard law" on ageplay. Saying your an age under SLs allowable is ot allowed. (snark: Someone would even assent to such an act for L$10? Way easier ways to make a fraction of a penny in-world, that don't involve sexual contact!) From: The AVastar Another vile Age Player, looking to exchange RL child pornography, handed over several shocking photos to the reporters and boasted that he could deliver thousands more. The photos, however, are now in the hands of the German authorities, who have launched an investigation. Clearly ARable. The thing that seems to be forgotten in so many of these articles is that SL can and will take action in these cases. I know that their response can be "challenged" at times, but they really, really dun mess around with this stuff. Yet these articles attempt to make it sound like SL casts a blind eye to it all. I mean, aside from the Robin Linden quote, you get this sense that Second Life is rife with this kinda stuff, and it just isn't. To be honest, an on a slightly different track - at what point does LL actually decide to push for their rights to do something with their service in some other country, versus caving and reacting? Where will they draw their line? Mari

Got a little ego problem there, Regis? First off, he's incorrect about there being no place for AgePlay in RL. Just wrong, plain and simple. Then, he implies that it was their story that made LL take action, which I find hard to believe. I'm sure it may have played a part, but I have a feeling that the part it played may be a little overblown... kinda like this guy's arrogance. What a load of bullshit.

From: Rock Vielle Is it time that all sexual activity in SL, which engages in role playing which is illegal in RL, such as Age Play (paedophilia), Rape Play (rape, abduction, sexual assault), Gorean Lifestyles (sexual slavery), even Furry Sex (bestiality) should be outlawed completely by SL, for the greater good of the majority of its residents?
How many more negative news stories can SL survive? How long before these sickoes spoil it for the rest of us? Zoey?
