Any viewer can get the secondary attachment points showing correctly, it is just a xml file that needs replacing.
as for the other features, personaly I gotten real attached to the radar, very usefull for handeling sim attacks (two click estate ban) and RLVa. quick access to the draw distance is usefull but only needed when going from an estate sim to mainland. Temp upload of textures for trying them out during building and showing a picture inworld to someone. import and export for backing up your own builds and combining builds from several alts into one (needs a bit of XML knowledge)

From: Imnotgoing Sideways People asked LL for more attachment points. The Emerald team delivered and pointed out that the only thing that really had to be chanced was an XML document, made the document available for anyone to use, and distributed information on how to integrate it into any client... Now people refuse to use it. (=_=) No doubt that's because the additional attachments look silly to anyone not using Emerald, or not having changed the XML file. It makes good sense not to use them. From: Imnotgoing Sideways People asked LL for client side radar. The Emerald team delivered. Now people say the radar is too "intrusive". (=_=) That's because is *is* too intrusive. It's great to open from time to time as needed, but it's no good as a normal radar because it fills too much of the viewer with a solid box.

From: Imnotgoing Sideways ...I believe it does run with better stability than LL's offering. A few things that I've observed to clearly lockup and crash the LL client won't hurt Emerald one bit. (Epic bluebox of doom grief attack... For example) (^_^)... Immy, I was hit by one of these not long ago. I believe I was using Emerald at the time, and it locked me up right proper. Aside from whether Emerald does or does not protect against this attack, can you tell me if there IS a defense against it?

From: Naz Fride It surprises me to hear people say Emerald is slow at rezzing. It's by far the fastest viewer I've used, and I used to be a Kirstens Viewer devotee. Snowglobe beats it hands-down, and has most of the critical Emerald functions in 1.3.

Phil, I agree with that criticism...it would be nice if I could get a minimized display with just some floating text of avs within 96m, like MystiTool. But that isn't the sort of "intrusive" that people are complaining about. They mean, they don't like all that information about themselves showing up on other people's radar... Frankly, I think it's a silly complaint. If people want to radar me and find out how old I am, what viewer I'm using, and whether I have PIOF, it's fine by me.

People asked LL for ways to identify "bad" clients. The Emerald team delivered and even included an effort for direct Cryolife detection. Now that people have found out that ONE of the Emerald developers was also ONE of the contributors of code to the Cryolife project, guilt-by-association set in and the communists are out to get us (insert foil hat here). (=_=)
So.....
.....plus 2 others! (3 that are known!) Would you ask ex-Burglars to install the security system of your house? I will concede the features in some of the 3rd party viewers are better than those of the official SL viewer. .

I assumed that Immy meant screen intrusion. I've said that in the past, which is why that's what crossed my mind. Personally, I have no objections to the info that Emerald's radar shows about me.

Aside from whether Emerald does or does not protect against this attack, can you tell me if there IS a defense against it? I have to log in to remember the name, but, it's something along the lines of pop-up notification throttling. You can turn it on and set it to something like 15 and it will automatically decline bulk offerings. (^_^) Without it, the trick is to fly and fly fast. The script I'm aware of is sensor based, limited to the names/keys the sensor picks up, and once you get beyond 100 meters you'll stop receiving the spam. Close a few blue boxes to get your FPS back and you'll get plenty of time to AR. (^_^)y

From: sable Valentine I like alot of the emerald fatures but I have to agree it is very slow in rezzing. I have my draw distance down to nothing and it still takes it awhile. I bought that emerald fast rezzer thingy to enhance rezzing and at times that thing is just as slow. /327/93/361061/1.html

I use the vertical IM tabs. About time someone came up with that!.
The radar is handy and nothing more than a button when I don't need it.
gth and tp2cam are features I use frequently.
The more 'exact' building tools are honestly a pain in the... When selecting too many prims out of a linkset, it freezes on me, sometimes resulting in full crash.
When it comes to daily use, I love Emerald. When I need to do some serious building, Emerald is (for me) the worst one out there.

From: Lindal Kidd For me, Emerald is a huge leap forward in viewers. With any viewer, there will be some people who have problems. Fortunately for me, I don't experience stability or speed problems with Emerald, rather the reverse. Whether it will work as well for you, I can't say. The only way to be sure is to try it. Some of the features I use all the time... 1. double click teleport 2. teleport to avatar from a radar listing 3. offer teleport direct from IM window 4. Worn tab in inventory 5. Radar display (I don't use my MystiTool as much any more. If the Emerald people can implement a viewer based flight assist, I may ditch Mysti entirely) 6. Higher accuracy build tools 7. Trial uploads of textures 8. jiggly boobies. 9. Secondary attachment points (I know, it looks funny to non-Emerald users. Let them get Emerald!) 10. Log in at the location showcased on the Splash screen 11. Derender (make that ugly build next door go away. I know, Prok hates this, it destroys the sense of community. Some things are better off being disappeared) Some features I don't use yet, but might... 1. Built in ZHAO II compatible AO 2. Message encryption 3. Set the channel you want to Chat on, for another way of speaking in private 4. Copy stuff *you created or have full permissions on* to your hard drive for backup Bugs I've experienced... Darn few. The only one is that for some reason lately, my login screen won't display the background image, unless I open a second instance of Emerald. It fixed itself for a while but it's back again the last few days. Ditto, Except I don't use the bewby feature, and I DO use encryption. Not to put too fine a point on things, but if my private conversations ever get broadcast to group again because of a 'bug' in the system at least nobody else can read them. I find the 'stock' SL viewer far too limiting for most things, Snoglobe may be better for texture applications but I simply love my emerald. Admittedly, I have not tried others yet but the expanded range of building tools, built in, automatic do it all HUD style of Emerald makes it easier for a relative techno-tard like me to keep track of all sorts of things. The presets and environmental lighting control are just too cool, regular snaps will never look as good to you once you start using the settings for picture taking, the rainbow selection beam with 'effects' is fun, the radar gives enough but not too much information about avatars around you... ummmm, there IS, however, one feature of the Emerald viewer that gets very little discussion, probably because the radar system allows Emerald users to cam from avatar to avatar within 96 m. O.0 ! Now 'privacy' in SL is illusory at the best of times for LOTS of reasons that have nothing to do with what viewers access the grid, but once it gets around that Emerald enables this sort of thing (and it cannot do otherwise) folks will take better measures to ensure that they aren't disturbed or 'snooped upon'. (easily done and good basic practice at the best of times.) As to aspersions cast and questions of 'trust': such issues are not easily addressed when your information is hearsay on all sides and the great grapevine sayeth only ...'caveat emptor et caveat venditor' (BOTH buyer and seller are responsible for safeguarding themselves). We all have to trust each other to adhere to basic social conventions or the world sorta falls apart, not having been banned by LL, and me being uninformed as to the 'closer relationship' between Emerald inc. and LL inc. who knows? Of all the companies in the world that could have acquired Sears, who'da thunk it would be K-Mart? Maybe LL bought em, maybe Emerald Bought LL? maybe they're negotiating at this point and nothing has been decided? Maybe Emerald is sueing LL in dispute of a bann and the whole thing is pending.. Maybe, just maybe, it's not really my business? Whatever.... until I'm informed that my Emerald is banned I'll keep using it.

Know what is really funny and really messed up at the same time?
People who like Emerald, which appears to be most of SL now, like the additional options and more complexity of the interface for customizing the experience right?
So what is Linden Lab doing? Exactly what nobody asked for or wanted. Driving as hard as they can in every direction that runs opposite of what the customers want. They don't even use the product nor do they even know what goes on in their product.
Oh well. Was nice before 2009 came along. Been driving into the dirt ever since.

I have only been using Emerald for a week or two, but here is my novice's likes/dislikes.
Likes:
Radar - but I wish I could customize it to limit the detect distance and leave out things I don't care about, like payment status and actions. I'd like to be able to add browser language detection too.
Temporary texture uploads - I couldn't get animations to work, but it's great for a replacement for the beta grid, which hasn't been working well lately.
Easier muting/IM/etc. from the radar menu.
Dislikes:
It resets preferences to default every time I log off. Makes it a non-starter as a regular viewer.
Very slow rezzing - much slower than the default viewer even at minimal draw distance.
Too many environment presets!
No documentation other than forums that I can't search without registering.

I really like the free temp upload feature; I use that all the time.
I really don't like the encrypted messaging thing. It seems to be hugely buggy, turning itself on and off for no reason, suddenly rejecting attempts to send IMs to people I was chatting with just a second ago, etc.
I would like the extra precision on object metrics more if it worked consistently. The least significant digit may get populated when moving an object with the mouse, but like as not it won't hold anything but zero when typed in.
I like the teleport history and use that frequently.
I use the radar occasionally.
I, too, had it lose the ability to display pics on the login screen, and just recently got it back when I ran a second instance. Strange.
I don't have the most recent version that has the bewbie physics. That version introduced horrendous avatar corrupting bugs. I'm still using version 1.23.4.673. I don't know...is there now a stable version that has corrected the nasties that arose in the last months of 2009?

From: Milla Janick I'm not sure saying the government does it exactly qualifies as a ringing endorsement of the practice. I could have used a self-referential example... Namely: Would you allow an "edgecasing known griefer and grief group recruiter" to educate new residents and protect your public sandboxes? (^_^) Guilt by association doesn't fare well with me. I like the radar, it's a handy feature. I took off my Mystitool, and when I need a flight assist, I use my primOptic sunglasses. I like the idea of more things being built into the viewer than as a script inworld.
I think the jiggly boob thing is funny, good for a few chuckles.
I've yet to really take advantage of Emerald's other features.
I do think, however, that it isn't as great with rendering as Boy Lane's Rainbow viewers/Cool Viewer.

From: Milla Janick That's a bad analogy, this is not guilt by association. Actually, it is. Saying that Emerald is "bad" by default due to one of the developers also being a contributor to Cryolife is exactly that. Especially considering the Emerald team included Cryolife specific detection tools. (^_^) At the same time, much of the argument against Emerald focuses on "those bad peoples" developing it because some of them are believed to associate with WU, W-Hat, or what have you. While nobody has proven that Emerald is built upon 'evil grief tactics', they still associate Emerald with griefing, griefers, and FIC circles. If it's not guilt by association, it's FUD. Either way, it's paranoia. (^_^)y

I'm saying I do not trust the developers of content theft viewers, and there are apparently at least three of them involved with Emerald. Maybe I am being excessively paranoid. That's my problem.

No way - you can set Emerald so that it notifies you in chat when someone enters or leaves the sim or chat range; it works fine for me that way. Although, I suppose if you're someone who needs the list of names always up all the time for whatever reason, yeah that big box can get in the way. Anyway...as for the whole "cam to another av by clicking them on the radar" thing - well, I haven't been able to get it to work in SL yet -although it works fine in OS - so I'm not sure what's going on there.
