when i first came on sl i rented a small piece of land with a nice house on it,i had people trying to take my helicopter and jet ski while i was standing there,i also watched this avy going into nearby houses,i like privacy so i got a homestead.
If you want total privacy get a homestead if you can afford it,of course you would need one all by itself with no adjoining sims.
I enjoy total privacy on mine

Shopping when the sim is lagged and you can't move.

Glad it worked out for you. But a homestead is no protection against intruders either. Only ban lines or orbs can keep them out or eject them, and nothing much can stop camming.

(At least you said "If you can afford it" but really that's a lot like people saying 'get your own island then.' Sure if someone else would like to pay for it!)

How can you say a homestead is no protection against intruders,it has no public access and a second layer of protection is an orb,which i also have.
I have been on a homestead for 2 years and have never had anyone other than i allow access to come there
My orb tells me who has been on the island and i have yet to see a name i don't know.
And as for camming that is impossible on a stand alone homestead from outsiders

If you have a ban line AND an orb then yes no one can get in! Well, actually there are still ways, I hear. At least briefly. And, camming is possible anywhere.

No public access = ban line.

If i am in the ocean with no land anywhere you have to get on my island to cam,which you can't,so how are you going to cam when you can't get there

Nothing new reported there...obviously if something is harder to find or off the mainland you will have fewer incidents. But it's the ban line PLUS orb that keeps people out. And you would never know if people had cammed inside or not.

Nikita is right. A standalone homestead with no public access (ie a white list) is about as private as you can get.

The only people who can possibly get in and cam are those on the white list, and the Lindens...

A friend of a friend of mine has one of these. It's totally private and if you search for the sim you get nothing. My friend sent me a tp to join him there. When I clicked the tp I got 'invalid location.' I could not go because I was not on the access list. I had to wait for the sim owner to add me, before I was granted access. There's just no way to get there, otherwise.

*with no public access* - my point was that the type of land in itself wasn't a protection. And how about being near enough to cam in? I don't see how a ban list or access list would protect against that. Just how far does their border go?

But at any rate that's all well and good if someone has 100 USD to spend per month on virtual rent! It doesn't really answer the OP's question. The answer to that is there really is no way.

You CAN'T be near enough to cam in. It's Standalone. not visible to any other sim.

You have to be on it to see it.

I;m all alone in the middle of a virtual ocean ,no land anywhere ,there is no land to get near to me to cam in,IT CANNOT BE DONE PERIOD

There is no where to jetski, there is a void all around them that you can't enter.

I have 24 homesteads that are stand alone. some touch on the corners, but you can stand at one of those corners and not see the sim next door (ie one square down and one across), you can cam all around and not see it.

The only way to see that sim is to enter it, and the only way to enter it is if it is set for public access or the "owner" lets you in.

You can see them on the map, you can see the green dots that are people, the best you can do is imagine that two of those green dots near each other are bumping pixels, but you can not see anything.

But *without her lack of public access and security orb* can a homestead otherwise be accessed? (My point about the map was not that you can somehow zoom into a map but that someone could click and tp there. You can slide around in maps for several sims.)

And again it's all a bit moot since this is NOT a practical solution for most people - to buy or rent their own homestead.

Mine was only a suggestion if one can afford privacy,i would love a full 15000 prim sim but i can't afford $295 a month,sl is what one can afford

As I said the only way with a standalone homestead or full region is to have access to the sim to be able to see anything or be a Linden.

I know not everyone can afford a homestead, but there are solutions to that. I know many people who share homesteads, and while it doesn't give quite the same privacy as having your own, sharing one with 2 or 3 others and their visitors is certainly going to cut down on the number of people who can cam in.

The OP asked if the camming into HER home can be stopped. The answer is "sadly, no."

Yes the OP was about that, I only jumped in when the homestead stuff started, and by then the thread had well and truly been derailed.

If you look at my original post,i just offered an alternative if the OP could afford it,i just made a statement but was then challenged on what i said,i was told what i said was impossible ,i just stated the facts which was related to the camming problem she was inquiring about,then i was told it is impossible to stop camming into ones private space,which is false

Oh I wasn't saying you derailed it, I believe your post was quite suitable, it is a way to get more privacy.

The best way to get privacy, is just don't use SL... the animations and cartoon characters really arn't all that sexy anyways, the appeal is all in your imagination... so use IM for your stuff, use voice if your into that, use MSN or yahoo or skype .... your AV's can sit perfectly still on a couch looking totally innocent, or dancing together... while in reality your doing your thing together.... I have a nice healthy sex life in SL ((well if you can call that healthy )), and my AV hasn't been naked in years.
