You can't prevent it, but you can make it tricky. Hollow out a prim and make it a skybox. Camming inside it then gets harder.

Now your other question what is camming good for? Well, I don't much like running around shopping. I'll come in a store, or stand outside and cam and shop that way. ![]() _____________________

You can't prevent it, but you can make it tricky. Hollow out a prim and make it a skybox. Camming inside it then gets harder. It's perfectly reasonable for someone to identify with one's pixels and want normal modesty. It's also perfectly reasonable for someone to be doing something (or someone ...) they don't want others to see. Unfortunately, it's just not possible. And even with the hollowed out megaprim trick, people can find out who's in there with you, if they can get within range. (What's the range? Well, that depends on technique, and I don't know what the upper-bound is for viewer-based radars, which would have the greatest range.) LL was talking about implementing a privacy cube where you could prevent anyone's viewer getting data for what's inside it unless they're inside it themselves (or something like that). But I don't know whether there's been any progress on that. It would be a good idea, and was pretty well received by everyone. And interestingly, it's one of the few features that could actually speed up SL for most people. (Many features we'd like would slow things down or cause more lag.) |

Get security orbs and move your home to above 3000m in height.
The orbs will keep people out, the height will make it less likely someone will find the interest to come by and cam in. You can't stop camming, but you can remove the desire or interest of people to do it. The smartest move is to put your home up there, and then leave your ground land open, with a pleasant garden. The garden works as a distraction. Draw their attention to that, and they're unlikely to have a desire to explore the plot further. Whatever you do, don't put up banlines. Banlines block people from entering at ground... And the kind of people who are curious will take them an a challenge - banlines just encourage bad people to fly up and try and get in above the working limit of the banlines, and them see what is up there to mess with. And if your content is at ground, banlines just get those kind of people to want to stand on the edge and cam in all day long, trying to mess with things. You want to use their psychology against them, not against yourself. People who are invading your space and personal privacy won't listen to a moral argument - you can't just tell them to stay out... you have to trick them into behaving properly. _____________________

Double click a name and you cam onto their neck with a lock that follows them as they move. I'd hazard a guess that from 30-60% of active SL users now use Emerald... hard to tell from personal anecdote. It seems like the 60, but I just assume that's the luck of the places I go to. I assume this feature is not unique to emerald and probably can be done even with a fully inworld radar HUD. _____________________

Snapshots. The ability to move the camera most anywhere you want gives you more flexibility when you're taking snapshots. Then there's just being able to move the camera all around. It's useful shopping, figuring out where you are and where you want to go. I cam all over the place all the time, and none of it is perving on people. Yea me too. Camming is also very useful in places of very high lag as I found out in a very big fashion store once. There were so many people there and the lag was so bad it took forever to walk around. So I stood on the spot and cammed around instead and was able to buy stuff quickly in various parts of the store far away from where I was. |

There is no privacy from people that work for Linden Lab. They can read your IMs, chat, group chat, and see what is in your inventory.
Now if you can get over that reality that mirrors how in real life the government can monitor everything about your little life... In Second Life you can have privacy. Buy a sim from Linden Lab. Your first sets you back $295 per month and the up front $1000 set up fee. Place your island where there are no adjacent islands for a distance of at least 2 sim grid units away. Set access to private and gran access to your friends. Now you have privacy except from people that have access to the back end servers. Beyond that you need to learn to get over it. The recommendation I give people in real life is to (do it) like a porn star because you never know who is watching. (replace (do it) with the proper word that can't be written here) Same applies to Second Life. |

Hmmm. There was something I meant to try but haven't got around to it: a hollowed out prim cube within another hollowed our prim cube with a small cavity between the two. I know the persistent and skilled could still cam in, but I wondered whether doing this would make it a bit more difficult. Or possibly shphere within sphere? Anybody tried this? Oh and the cavity would give some insulation too... it's important to keep the warm in when you're at 4000m!

Welcome to Sl..
Privacy? - does not exist! When you and your partner are having sexin your ''paid'' house then everyone near it CAN decide to cam and follow the action on the 1st row! Giving up your privacy is a small price to pay for the many things you get in return ![]() |

People can cam in from 2 sims away and you would never know. I echo the part about buying your own island/renting your own homestead if you want complete privacy from everyone, with the exception of Linden Lab.
Camming is a fact of second life and it doesn't matter how many hollowed out megaprims you use, or security orbs you set up. A person who is camming is generally not a random noob that you can stop. Networking security systems together will stop people from flying close by but that is as much comfort as you can expect. I also echo the sentiment to f like a porn star. Just don't use shout. _____________________

A litle adition to the tip of gettng your own private sim, unless the other sim owner alows you to buy a sim next to them you can only buy sims not connected to sims you do not own.
So by default you are always safe from next sim camming, so just turn off public access for the sim and you are set. It is expencive but there are plenty of groups doing it sharing the costs, offcourse the others you share the sim with can still cam in but at least you know them. (not sure if that makes it better or worse) |

Recently we had a friend visit us who caught someone camming into our home. We pay money to live in SL and this angers me that SL would continue to allow a feature that gives someone the right to invade others personal space. I want to know what is avail. that can prevent this in the future and who do I write to about having SL remove the ability to cam into a building. Also someone explain to me what this feature is good for other then perving money paying residents homes. I cam all the time. I cam when I shop, when I build, when looking at my surroundings, when I do landscaping jobs. There are many very innocent and useful needs to have this feature available and I'm very glad we can cam. There are some people who will use it for not so good purposes, but the good uses outweigh the bad. There is no privacy in SL unless you want to go to the expense of buying your own sim. _____________________

4. Or open a conversation with him, give him a landmark to Neva Naughty's Orgy Room and send him on his merry way. *coughs* that's Neva's Naughty Menu Furniture and Dance Club (NO FREE SEX NO OR) keeps them compliant with the adult rules although the texture still has what I thought were banned words. |

I went to Neva's place recently and wound up in an Adult area. I didn't go in, but I sure got propositioned, just standing outside on the street. Maybe she's split her operation. _____________________
