"Such men came here once, pale-haired men wearing tunics that clinked and carrying axes not for the chopping of wood."

 So now what? Do I win a prize? I'd better go back and read everyone else's to see if there's a plot.

"No Delicacy."

I'm not personally all Ayn Rand when it comes to philosophy, but "We the Living" is the closest book here at home. At the office, I was surprised to find that *there are no books*. None. I hadn't realised how paperless it was getting, and even the applications have online help, or I left the boxes home.

I was at a used book store in Berkeley last week. (Mo's, actually, and yes I popped into Rasputin's. The last time I was in Rasputin's I think they were selling mostly vinyl records.)

Bunch of edge cases and I don't know what rules ferrets play by, so here's the whole shebang.

Closest thing with pages is a catalog:

"A 1 1/2 HP, 110V, single-phase motor provides plenty of power for any job and 1" wide grinding wheels with 1" bores will handle the largest tooling."

- Grizzly Industrial vol 21, no. 2

Next is a user's manual with too few pages. (USB 2.0 Tracker Pre Audio Interface/Mobile Preamp Installation & Quick Start Guide

After that is another user's manual:

"S3(STR) enables the system to enter the ACPI S3 (Suspend To RAM) sleep state (default)."

- Gigabyte Ultra Durable 3 Motherboard GA-EP45-UD3R/UD3 User's Manual

Closest actual book, yet another edge case (a footnote continued from the previous page, in line with the text of the book so it's at the top of the page, takes up the first 4 sentences):

"Carlo?"

Skipping past the footnote yields:

"Three suspects -- Cagliostro, the Count, and Carlo -- and no hard facts to determine which of them was guilty of which part of the night's conspiracies."

- The Historical Illuminatus Chronicles Volume 2, The Widow's Son by Robert Anton Wilson

phew!

It seemed it was indeed possible to make numbers perform.

((at home book. Not sure if that sentance is any more intersting that the work one. It is from Stork Naked by Piers Anthony.))

I'm feeling odd at the moment, so that "usurped" was translated in my mind to "licked". As in, Henry the IVth licked the throne, and no one else wanted to sit there. Eww, they thought, and therefore Henry IV was king.

Yes, that's precisely how the English Monarchy worked in those days.

Nowadays we're more enlightened, and licking doesn't bother us so much.

"Within a phase, BlueJay can accelerate up to 15" and it takes her 3 hexes to reach this velocity."

Just so happens, one of my most favorite books was also in reach right next to it, so:
