I had to reset my password as well. My first thought was OMG my account has been hacked. I have been keeping a lot of Lindens in my account to pay my rent to Desmond Shang on my lot in Steamskycity Caledon.

I was not ready at first to reset the password but after some time was able to do so. My new password has uppercase, lowercase, numbers and symbols. I took it as a "wake up" call to improve my password security.

Frustrated

Mokabi:
I am frustrated to, I am a concierge level and I can't call them or contact them because I do not have access to the information on the web site. I am locked out of the web site. I tried to contact them with an alt, every email address that is on the website comes back no read, no reply because the system has changed.
I wish I could help.
I will be out in Chicago in August and I am going to try to talk to them face to face about these problems.

I can't send you a private message on the forums, so if you could turn that on please and I'll get you the concierge number :).

It's not present anywhere on the site, it's in the notecards you get when you ordered your private sim. There's also no point in asking for it if you're not really at concierge level, since they'll verify it before actually assisting.

My understanding is that anyone who logged into the new support system is effected, but no word yet as to why.

I was one of the resets but was able to use the lost password function here to successfully reset. I certainly had a moment's palpatations, though, last night during the brief time I was locked out. My utmost sympathies to those of you who will be locked out longer while you work out how to get back in.

Because anyone who thought to look at a Second Life "support" system must clearly have been a non-SL user on a hacked account? ;-)

Still, this explains why me an not others in my in-world family. I opened the support system the other day just to see it.

I've never used the support system or even looked at it, to my recollection.

I did wonder why it wasn't a "secure" page for logging in to the support site.

I think a big part of the problem here is that the URL mentioned in the login screen is NOT the same place clicking on the "password" link in your account page takes you.

READ WHAT IT SAYS.

http://secondlife.com/password

THAT is where you need to go. You don't need to be logged in, or type in your old password at all. All you need to know is your email address.

Apologies to those of you who went to the right place and are still having problems, this isn't aimed at you - it's just that in reading this thread it seems like there is still some confusion going on.

I have had to reset my password 4 times since last night. Each time I try to log in with my main, I have to do it again. Strangely, my alt is OK

I'm just wondering how long is this supposed to last? Have to reset it every single time we log in to SL. Or even better when we gonna hear something on the blog why its doing this to so many people?

Hmmm I did go into the support portal thing to look at it, last week some time. Having read this thread, I just tried to get into SL and sure enough, my password needed resetting.

I did the log out, try logging in, 'forgot password' email routine and the first time, it said my password was successfully reset but I was unable to log in, so I had to go through the whole routine a second time. After that it worked. Not sure if there's a connection but I didn't receive my stipend this morning, as a few others have reported.

From the sounds of it, I'd guess that their new support portal was hacked recently so anyone who's used it is at risk, which is why they blocked passwords of anyone who'd used the new portal.

I'm beginning to suspect there was a breach in the system in place for the support portal, and this led to a need to reset the passwords of those who accessed it. Further, my suspicion is that Heretic might be delayed due to a need for LL to vet whatever is said, given a security breah involving a sizable number of avatars, with all that is going around with age verification, would be a PR disaster. Or, actually, another PR disaster.

Agree, Mari. I think there was a breach of the portal. Just a guess. Off to change my password for the 5th time.

Is it just Premium accounts?

All my alts can login np (of course they’re all basic)…Help Island is full of alts screaming for assistance, and the Linden there didn’t even seem aware of any problems. If I change my password I can’t get on the beta grid and from what I’m reading here even if I did change it there still is a problem. Pffft!
And even worse….I don’t trust my alts! They do things when I’m not around.

Sounds like many got their passwords error messages. Looks like some sort of leak! Maybe not just the support portal but otehrs besides. Also i heard that non usa users had to have resets! Wonder if llabs got hacked in their non usa data bases!. Or worse they are doing some sort of ip tagging.

This is what I'm thinking too.. because it's just WRONG to not have a blog post about something of this nature. But still, the silence is not trust inspiring, you know?

I had to do a reset, and I'm a user from the states.

Oh yes. And the longer the silence before a disclosure, the more damage is ultimately done. I'm personally concerned that LL might be backing themselves into a big of a corner lately.

Me too, my partner got on fine. Just me and I also checked out the support system to get familiar with it for when I needed it in the future.
