I tried to answer one and it didnt work but I may have done it wrong because I tried to answer some of the others too but couldnt so ,I went back and then answered them all, luckily the names on the friends list I had to remember had changed and I remembered the account question answer too, and I already knew the others .Changed password and could sign back on.

Wow this was upsetting... anyway I wonder how many others are affected?

Are you sure about that?

Yes, just make sure you select the correct radial button on the left for the one you want.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Just think of one of the security questions. It wil come to you, and I found when I went back and tried again the names of the friends I had to remember had changed and I remembered them if you just relax and think about it the answer to one of those questions may come to you :) .

whew! I'm glad it wasn't just me! I panicked for a little while. Did the "I forgot my password" thing and it worked. Yay! Still, very scary.

You just need to answer one of the questions, not all - click the radio button for the one you can answer and answer it. I couldn't answer the friends one, myself - I used my security question.

I would try again.

This Is Bullshit
06-04-2007 23:45
Sorry gang I just have to gripe.

So a few hours ago I got the "login failed, check your password, etc" so I went and reset my password, and got in just fine.

Now, a few hours later, I'm trying to get back in and it's telling me "oh gee we're telling everyone to reset password" so I go to reset my password AGAIN, but now it doesn't recognize EITHER the old OR the new password.

ARGH!!! I'm a premium member WHY?

....locked out as well.

So, short of calling the support number (which I understand is answered rarely), what does one do if you fail the security questions and they lock out the account? Shortly I won't even be able to read this forum (can't log in here either if I leave the page). Talk about a pain.... Probably missed a letter or two on my friend's list. Twice.

Premium member. Lame.

Yes, you just have to answer ONE of the questions. You need to have a valid email address, because that is where the reset link is sent. Seems passwords were "forgotten" at random. Perhaps to check out the password recovery system????

....reset system
06-05-2007 00:03
Had I known I'd but *two* cracks at it, I might have been a lot more precise. Two shots was all I got, and I missed. The password recovery system is robust, but apparently not idiot proof. Oops.

Heretic (if you're reading this), is there a way y'all can reset the password reset feature once exhausted, or am I going to have to spend days trying to call?

I just had the same problem! I nearly died as I tried my password over and over again, even here on the forums. I was certain my account had been hacked. Thankfully, resetting the password worked. My heart is still racing.

Oh me too, but I still wonder what happened to cause this.

I got hit when I attempted to log into the SL website. I know I entered my password correctly as I have the password-save feature enabled on my browser. But it failed repeatedly. My first reaction was that my account had been compromised. Luckily I was able to reset my password after the 15-minute lockout. Not impressed at all. Grrrrrr.

Related but different, anybody else notice the transaction history on the right-side of the password change webpage?

It was totally wrong for me - lots of casino stuff that I never did. My account balance looks about right, though, as does the regular transaction history page.

I just went through it and she's correct.

Those transactions are just random recent ones in SL, they aren't yours. I got freaked too by it.

I can't log in either. I tried resetting password but it comes up 'invalid current password' although I tried several times and I know I was typing the correct current password.

On login page I get a message telling me to go to password page and answer security question but there is no question on page only password options and it won't accept my password.

So if it won't accept my current password it seems I'm completely stuck, just after paying a year's subscription.

Any ideas??

I have the same problem with the little extra fun of not being able to reset my password.. when i click the link in the mail, it leads me to https://secure-web3.secondlife.com/account/call_us.php

pretty silly, since LL discontinued phone and mail support, which i both already tried..

so right now im waiting (and hoping) for you guys at LL to give us some helping hand, since u decided to discontinue rl support for basic accounts..

only bit of hope i got, is that i see heretic linden posting here... tho this is the ONLY sign of LL even knowing about this issue l0l... no post on the blog

I logged out of the website, then when relogging used "forgot my password" and received link in my email. I clicked that link, got to the question page, put in my security Q answer, and was able to reset.

I managed to get through the process without too much pain, but does anyone know why it's happened, and more importantly why there's no blog entry?
