If you use HUDs, AOs, Dance spheres or Chims, there's a recent and bad issue

I just had a real panic earlier tonight.

I logged in to go dance as I usually do.

Upon rezzing, I was wearing ZERO attachments.

I saw in the chat errors saying "couldn't create object, try again".

I first tried my hair, and got the same error message.

I tried my boot bases, same error message.

I wasn't about to try this with my four HUDDLES quick pose huds, but I did peek in the folders and saw them in there. (but the panic kept rising, "omg, will they wind up being empty shells?)

I logged out, cleared my cache, logged back in...

Same result.

Sick at heart and worried, but having seen blog headings warning of asset server problems, I decided to log out, wait, pray and hope really hard.

Fortunately when I just logged back in after 90 minutes or so, everything was back on and functional.

I got lucky, but I sure wish they'd fix this place.

This is still happening. I lost a great deal of money's worth of Sine Wave dances.

I wish they'd get their act together too. I kicked being a Mentor into touch the other day, because quite frankly I don't believe in the product any more so why the hell should I pay money to be a shill.

Yeah - anyone who knows me might possibly be shocked - even I have had enough.

Welcome to the forums!

If it's encouraging at all, the "couldn't create object, try again" problem is distinct from the ones where the object has vanished from inventory, or it's still listed in inventory but absent from the database. (Well... the problems aren't completely distinct. If one gets the "couldn't create" message repeatedly, the system is in a state where it's risky to keep trying it with no-copy objects, lest they get lost in the attempt--to which I can personally attest.)

The particular problem here is something very weird about how attachments get lost in the course of being detached... or possibly when some other attachment is detached or attached to a different attachment point, and this when by all appearances the asset system is otherwise healthy. I suspect that at first, developers thought this was just more of the same old inventory loss problem, but clearly something else is going on here. It remains to be seen if fixing this particular problem will help with other inventory loss, triggered differently.

And unless somebody gets assigned to look at this bug specifically, this will remain unknown forever. And attachments with no-copy content will get less and less viable. That's bad for my products, which would be substantially less valuable to users if they couldn't be transfered, but it reminds me: don't some animators offer copy/no-transfer animations? The best AOs are free anyway, but the anims inside can be very expensive, so if one had copy-perm anims, the whole AO could be copiable, so if one copy gets eaten, no great loss.

This morning, just as I've done hundreds of times, I detached my Owenimations chimera (worn on my spine). Later, when I wante to wear it, it was gone from inventory. A few days ago, something simlar happened to a Sine Wave AO HUD, which disappeared from inventory after I detached it. I thought that was just a little glitch or bug because the same thing happened a week earlier with the same Sine Wave app. Fortunately, Sine Wave replaced my missing animations. This is a serious issue. I've opened a support ticket, and hope the Lindens can do something to fix the problem.

Yep - I had the same thing happen to me with both Sine wave & owen. Log a ticket as well. ( I lost my Sinewave AO this weekend).

A serious issue indeed.

I'm relieved to see that this issue has FINALLY been assigned at the JIRA. Hopefully WorkingOnIt Linden will have a fix soon. It says fix pending.

I cannot wait to see this bug gone gone gone.

I don't think the status is "fix pending." It's good that they have acknowledged it, but I don't see where it says that there is a fix for it yet.

I logged into SL tonight for the first time in maybe half a year and figured I should move past 2005 and stop playing my dances out of inventory. So I got a Huddles - a very well made product - loaded it up and *then* read this.

Needless to say, I voted on the JIRA for what good it will do. Sorry to hear that LL's incompetence is hammering yet another industry.

I've put in a request to LL's marketing to change their tagline:

Ooops, my bad. I'm not used to reading this JIRA at all. I'd noticed that on the "Available workflow actions" in the left nav bar, and jumped the gun. (I just looked carefully on the #WEB-656 and see it there too)

Wishful thinking.

A really important development on this. For some time I suspected that Wearing an item directly from the ground played a part in this. Finally someone found a way to reproduce this bug and it involved Attaching or Wearing something directly from the ground.

Until there is a fix for this I strongly recommend that people DO NOT WEAR huds from the ground, instead right click on them and Take them. Then wear them once they are in your inventory. I always do this, and it may be why I've never personally suffered from this bug.

More details here:

Lost my neko hud on may21st. and free account so no love from support portal lol. the hud was no copy so couldnt make a copy for safe keeping. When they refreshed the beta grid, I got the neko hud back there. but it still has not shown up on the main grid yet. now I have a very intresting stock walk lol. Oh well will wait around and see if it shows up.

// Btw why do we have to login to jira, shouldnt it already log us in as we are logged in main site and forum?

Ah, I know the pain of that. I just lost my brand new cat, Stormy from We Love Pets, when I was trying to rez him on my arm. I'd been supremely careful, but when I encountered turbulence, I didn't think twice of logging out when I wasn't able to move anymore. When I logged back in, he was gone, and not rezzed either, because he didn't respond to commands, or show up in the crazy vision suggested by the creater to make the ground dissapear...
After hearing your lack of assistance from being a free account, I'm losing hope...

hi Haley, so sorry to hear about your kitty. I've not heard of this happening with a pet, but you might try posting in the JIRA 6110 about it. I have seen that due to the severity they have accepted and assisted basic members' tickets with this issue. I wish you good luck!

Shame this issue has gone on this long, and so many more folks lost things. Folks who probably never knew this was an issue.

Not sure, but Stormy's fate might be different from that of the attachments eaten by VWR-6110. I'm thinking that pet might show up with a careful search of Inventory after clearing cache and relogging, maybe a couple of times, on a quiet sim. (If that's already been tried, then it would be good to file a lost inventory ticket as Phoenixa suggests. Even if they can't retrieve the item, it helps to keep reminding them of the ongoing severity of this problem.)

i accepted long ago that one sure fire way to lose a nocopy hud was to wear another hud in the same slot.
not bothering with jira because not only is jira a waste of time, but we shouldnt have to pine and beg over there in the first place.
