I'll start by saying that I've only been playing for a week, so I'm certainly still very clueless about a lot of things in Second Life. Take this with a grain of salt. That being said... has anyone noticed that 95% of all clothes, animations and accessories seem to be targeted towards female avatars? I could pick any mall at random, and almost every single shop therein will be selling female clothes, female poses, female hair styles, and so on. I spent about half an hour last night just searching for a store that sold shirts for males, and the closest I found was a bunch of identical t-shirts with different logos on the front. I spent even longer looking for an animation to replace the awkward-looking walk that my character has, and I never actually found anything. The popular freebie locations (like the Free Dove) have replacement walks for females, but not for males. The closest I came was a box that read, "Animation override for females, will work for males but you'll have to set it up yourself." Now, money isn't an issue (I'm not just looking for freebies), but even at the expensive shops, I couldn't find a simple walk animation. As I said, I'm still very inexperienced. Could anybody recommend a shop or location that sells a decent range of male clothes and/or animations? These faded jeans are getting a little boring.

Very often. From: someone Could anybody recommend a shop or location that sells a decent range of male clothes and/or animations? These faded jeans are getting a little boring. Just within the last week or two there have been a few threads about good places for men's clothing. Do a quick search, or just scan back in this forum for a few pages and you'll see them!

Abranimations have a couple of good male AO's.
Not sure if I spelt that right though.

Well, if men didn't moan so often about how much they detest shopping . . . All those mixed signals, I tell ya.

Yeah, well, my fault really.
Same pants I designed myself six months ago (a nice sunset sky pattern). Same shirt I designed myself (from a fractal I ripped somewhere). Changed hair - um, twice. Freebie shoes. A skin after months of nagging by my significant other - settled on a nice cheap one. A couple alternate outfits I picked up somewhere - a classy suit and tie, plus some nice bland casual workwear bit. And of course my significant other's collar which I wear proudly but which she paid for.
Total amount spent on myself in the past six months: maybe 2K, tops. And remember half of that was from constant nagging.
Funny enough when I ran a female alt I probably sunk 5K into her over two months and had a blast shopping - even paid 900 for a butterfly outfit. But then I decided I'd had enough fun seeing what it was like being a woman (the fast bonding and casual intimacy was nice) and I was getting tired of feeling icky about lying about it all the time. Well, at least I kept my promise to myself to never take my clothes off (as a female alt - I just couldn't take the lie that far).

Wow, thanks for the quick replies! I'll be sure to check out those suggestions. The most popular male clothing stores I found using the in-world search were filled with spiky black leather suits and came with a complimentary ball-gag.

Not sure if my taste in men's clothing would match that of a guy, but my favorite stores for cross-dressing my female avatars are:
SF Designs Blaze Itan Kishi MIA
And if I could get in world right now, I'd give you the name of my favorite store for male animations. But I've been hit by the dreaded inventory database issue and can't get to my landmarks folder.

On Fashion I thought the male uniform in SL was Jeans, heavily tatooed bare chest, bare feet how many stores does that take? However There is one "shop" type that caters to males over abundantly compared to women. Strip clubs/Escort Agencies/Call Girl places. Is a WHOLE lot of these.

how many stores does that take? Hehe. There definitely seems to be a lot of that. I'm after something a little more ordinary, though. I've seen business suits, and the whole "men-in-black" kind of attire in places, but I prefer a casual look. A lot of the specialty shops are oriented towards goth (everything is black), furry (everything is, well, furry), or gangsta (everything sparkles). Is it too much (or too little?) to ask for a stylish shirt, maybe a jacket, and some pants? Thanks a heap for the names, Beebo. I still haven't had a chance to look into them (four more hours of work), but they sound like what I'm after.

Yikes! I could swear that my own search results were far less prolific. With "mature" unchecked I had three or four places with a very limited range, and with it checked, I had dozens of sex shops. Thanks for that, SuezanneC.

The wonderful Estelle Nelson, who sells all her clothes for 25L, has started a mens clothing line. Her store is StarMaker.
Other mens stores you might like: Made Men, Head-Toe, and the mens shop on Naughty Island.

For casual stuff, check renegade, renown and form. Very well made stuff. Also, check the second style men's blog, at http://www.second-man.com/ , for designer reviews. There's a free male AO at happy dispatch. Personally, I don't like the walk, but the standing poses are good enough and you can modify it. I know there are some ready made and more complete male AOs at the animation warehouse.

Nicky Ree and Shai also do a fair amount of blokey stuff. Colette hit the nail on the head. Women buy their avatar appearance, then the guys rent it. I remember when a friend finally got smarted up (changed from his never-removed jeans, tshirt and hat/hair) into a shirt and some weird hair. Kind of a cross between Colin Firth as Mr Darcy and Jarvis Cocker. We all had a good laugh anyway. He went right back to his barefoot jeans n tshirt soon after.

Lost Dog for AO (along with Abranimations) Risque in Pirates Cove for individual animations for your AO I swear I only go to Risque for the gestures ~winks and motions to the incredible pose ball sets~ purrr

The stores in Scotland sell outfits for guys as well. Of course, a kilt and tartan might not be your idea of casual clothing...

Besides the places already mentioned for men's clothes, I'd highly recommend Little Rebel; huge selection of quality casual clothes. Also Pixel Dolls if you want to get a little fancier. Last Call has a men's line as well. ETD and Naughty would probably be my first choices for men's hair.
