You folks are so lucky to have in-world things to complain about! Just as in 1.14, I crash on startup every time.

Try bringing up Preferences before you login and select the lowest setting for everything. Just slam those sliders to the left, turn off every graphics option.

If you can login with those specs, then you can try turning them on one by one until you fid a comfortable level.

The only thing I have to say is that after 2 weeks waiting for the "transparencies fix" or "alpha fix" everything seems to be the same in that area.
I do a lot of complex textures with alpha yes, and making compositions with these objects with those textures now is the same thing than before the update. when looking from the front the textures that are in the back overlap the textures in the front. SO. about the alphas, not a great update. I had to much expectations. I hope they really fix this, again.

Maybe I'm just dumb@ss and have some sort of preference not adjusted properly... or something... hope is the last to die.

Lets hope. The only thing I liked at them moment it seems changing skins and clothing seems a bit faster.

I believe it all comes down to the Heisenberg uncertainty principle. If you take SL and apply Schrödinger wave equation to it, you will find the probability that SL will work for you. I think I have solved the first order part of the equation, but I am unsure of what the effects of the higher order terms have on usablity.

You know... that really belongs in a sig, or on a t-shirt. I love it. Thank you!

Am sure I've said this after every update but it all went swimmingly well for me. Everything from the world rezing, to teleporting to my inv loading has been allot faster for the last 16 hours and the only issue i've had is group IM seems a tad slow...am I bothered though?

Dont know if it's relevant but I havnt cleared my cache for 2 years and havnt updated the drivers for my GeForce 5600 card (which is below the min spec) for over a year and I can still run sl with a 256 draw distance and nearly all enhanced features enabled. In fact I used to have the ripply water turned off, but the client scanned my hardware and reset the graphics prefs before I logged in yesterday and turned rippling water on and it now runs very nicely for me too.

So well done Linden Labs. Considering I spent 2 hours pricing up a new PC yesterday in the event that the upgrade finally out grew my current one, i am now one happy bunny. And they fixed the mature content tickbox in the places search so double bonus.

Three cheers for Linden Labs...hip hip Hora......ok maybe not the best thread to do that in.

Right, went to building class on mystica last night which was a good test of the build engine as well as being in sim with a lot of av's.

Everything went surprisingly smooth!.

I'm with Porky on the new viewer praise, love it.

Frame rate stays a lot smoother now on initial load of a new area and its textures. Even on 1.14, whilst my frame rate was much higher cause of the VBO, there would still be a lot of initial jerkyness which seemed to be tied into the loading of textures. But this has been dramatically reduced for me on 1.15.

So a big thumbs up for that.

Also noticed slight enhancement to 'hollow' in the build engine. Hollow can now be set to a decimal point place.

The whole friends list thing being buggered is a pain yes, but I've got a sneaky feeling this is Linden testing out the impact friends online checking on grid entry has on the grid as a whole (what with the friends list checking being disabled on the website too).

I really hope they dont remove that part though, be annoying having to IM people first just to confirm their online status.

Oh and teleporting is still slightly faster for me than all previous versions, thats another big thumbs up. :)

Side note to dual core users (specifically AMD in my case), I'm still noticing a speed improvement by settting affinity to single core (or single then back to double after). It's a shame we can't see that as standard, I thought it was fine last night when i tried it but today confirmed that yes, doing the affinity toggle does still make things smoother still, so worth doing if you're on dual core.

Final note, not a single crash since using 1.15 yesterday. Yes! :D

Also, is it just me or has the resolution of rendering increased slightly in v1.15?

Can't get to Preferences, much less login

Thanks, Beebo, but I can't get to Preferences... the "Display settings..." crash happens right after the "Detecting hardware" popup and another saying something about textures. I never see the login screen. I just downloaded what appears to be the latest driver from AMD (which now owns ATI)... no help. On another thread I saw praise for "Omega drivers," I may work up the courage to try that. Or I may risk buying an Nvidia 8600 GTS video card if it works with my AMD Athlon 64 3500+... I saw that card praised in another thread, and apparently ATI cards are junk. Or I may play from my wife's Alienware box which had no problem with 1.14 or 1.15... but it's available only in pre-dawn hours since she's in SL 15 hrs/day. Or maybe I'll play Freecell.

Robin - do you know what version of OpenGL you have? It might be something there. My other half had the same problem until he updated his OpenGL. Just one more thing to check.

Hi Robin, you need OpenGL 2.x. Anything earlier will most likely not work, although this latest client update was supposed to address that last hardware problem and re-enable those machines.
I have the Radeon 9550 and had to update my drivers.

took some time to try different things but the ao`s are fuckedup with script errors, better off without 1 and throw away a couple k on it :(

Try dropping the AO on the floor (you may have to turn on View Transparencies to see it), edit it and then choose 'Recombile scripts in selected objects' from the Tools menu, that should reset the scripts and make them work again.

Severe Graphics problem
04-27-2007 12:55
Well at least you guys can "SEE" the world. all I see is Sky. I can tell if I am in a building by look out the windows and seeing 'sky' but all the inside prims are the same color and can only be defined if I edit and see the yellow outlines. Everything else is gone.

thx for the reply, even if abit late ;)

error was traced back to the ao animset notecard, there was an empty line some where in the center
as of what ever changes they did, it started to see the :: [ desc ] :: as animation name and not the animation name below it

ao didn`t whine about it with the prev patches but was annoying to say atleast till fixed after an hour or 2
