my avie has always been 6'1, due to the fact that i wear glasses. and sit only so close to the screen.

I'm not sure that I follow this chain of logic... can I have a child avatar because I wear contacts and sit back from a large monitor? :-)

Scarily that makes as much sense as anything LL has said on this issue.

It won't be the first time someone has considered being short a moral failure.

I think a big part of the problem is an Education One - People dont KNOW what 5 foot tall is.

I think what needs to be done is to vastly increase the availbility of height detectors in Second Life.

So people KNOW how tall they are. When they realize they are an insane 7 foot height, they will realize not all shorter avs are children.
...

Linden Labs needs to include a Avatar Ruler in the basic Inventory for all new avatars.

Im going to add a Freebie / free to copy av ruler in my store locations.

If anyone needs one , IM me and Ill send you one.

I've recently shrunk my av to 6'1"and started making all om my furniture and doors standard hights. Gimungous avs can't get in. Oh, and they have a hight detector with a gage saying you must be this tall to enter. :P

this thread cought my attention, My av is teeny short. I think Im about 4'6" or something like that. I haven't ran into any problems yet, but I also have my group title of guitar teacher on at all times. It seems to help, it's the first thing people see, before they see me even :P I think there's a group for the advocacy of reasonable avatar hights, I'll post it up if I can find it. But, I think the monacres help define the character. Hey, when in doubt too, hover text works.

There's a woman at my workplace who's barely over 4" tall, and in proportion. I think she'd (rightly) be offended at accusations of being a child.

All short people are shifty though.

Hitler was short. Just saying...

Retail Considerations
05-25-2007 06:39
It is disturbing to see people pointing and screaming at avis they suspect of unsavory intentions due to no other factors other then height or even body proportions. Reminds me of the last scene from Invasion of the Body Snatchers. It looks as if it is already getting out of hand - hope it can be reeled in.

Something that occurred to me while reading this thread is that height and even body proportions and boobage quantity still are terribly inaccurate measures for whether an avi is a child or not, and then from there whether they are engaging in nasty business or not. This bugs me because I am spending quite a bit of time right now working on a full series of avs based off of a line of Manga inspired fairies I drew in real life.
http://www.ashwood-arts.com/Galleries/Fairy/phunkyphairies.htm

Many people would consider these child-like, as that is the aesthetic of Manga style art. Yet to me these creatures are neither child nor adult. They are FAIRY. Wondering now if I should modify the body shape I have been working on for these avs. Should I mar the vision I have by lengthening proportions and pushing up the height just to avoid suspicion and possible unfair ramifications. I would hate to think I have to - and would hate to think that sales on what promises to be a quality product would suffer simply due to this sillieness. I suspect that other builders and content creators have had the same concerns. Interested to hear thoughts.

OMG what a fantastic analogy. That scene always creeps me out.

yet another reason for me not to post onthe forums while sleepy. yeah that sounds very LLish and i apologise.

i tend to sit back from my monitor with my key board in my lap, so i just keep mine at her size which i have stated is like 6'-6'1, so i can see her, and until i figure out why my cam angles are screwed(if this still dont make sense im sorry still loading up on coffee) and as my ava has been the same hieght more or less since i have joined i saw no reason to change it.
my partner however is at His RL hieght of 6'2, does that make him a freak? my point is seems everyone wants someone to conform to thier views, in some shape or form. somesay anyone over rl hieght is a "freak", while others say anyone below that is a kid?

in readign some of these posts, what makes you or anyone else different from the guy who was gonna ar the OP for living her SL?

>>>my partner however is at His RL hieght of 6'2, does that make him a freak?<<

I don't see why it would. 6'2" is tallish for a man in RL but very common. Besides, it's at his RL height which sort of indicates it's realistic, doesn't it. This is not to say that people need to have avatars that match their real life height, of course.

When we're talking about freakishly tall, we mean freakishly tall, not stuff in average human range.

Absolutely...by my RL 12th birthday, I was already 5'5" (taller than a lot of adult women) and had distinct breasts and hips. I still felt like a child, but didn't entirely look like one, and I know there are girls who developed earlier and more substantially than I had by that age. You know that old saying about not judging a book by its cover? Well, I see enough prejudice based on appearance in RL...it may be wishful thinking, but I'd really rather not see it our fantasy realm as well.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

7 foot avatars arent freaks -

Its only if they KNEW they were 7 feet tall - they wouldnt assume 5 foot tall avatars were Child Avies.

If I AR a child av it is 1.) because they are an obvious child(based on proportions and are wearing inappropriate attire z.B bdsm gear or other adult attachments 2.) because of what their profile says( I am respectful of adults , or anything like that with a picks area filled with sex stuff or pedo palaces) and 3.) their groups like lil' (insert sex related thing here) or Preeeen S***ts. So they have to be engaged in obivious sexual things while dressed as a child before I would AR them, and I would just ar them and not taunt them or anything childish.

With all the discussion about what makes an av a child, the other half of the question, about adult activity, has fallen through the cracks of this thread.

But this note needs to be corrected. None of the things listed are violations, except for the phrase "engaged in obvious sexual things while dressed as a child". Wearing a costume isn't a sexual activity, nor is having genitals, nor is belonging to groups that are about sex, nor is having picks that refer to sexual activity. Actually engaging in sex is the activity in question.

A person might well have a single identity with multiple avs, instead of paying the $9.95 for an alt. You can keep two or more shapes around, one child like, one adult, and only allow the adult av to participate in adult activities. A person shouldn't be forced to clear out their groups or picks just because they switch shapes and clothing. A kid wearing leather cuffs is a fashion statement, no more.

And a kid walking on a nude beach, whether dressed or nude, is a difference of opinion, but not illegal in real life nor a violation in SL.
