I find this all rather sad...and disturbing.

Sad that you don't respect your partner enough to see things from his point of view and find a way to give up the forum and enjoy SL and time with him instead of living your second life here.

Raymond, you have ALWAYS given me a patronizing glance in forum. Not sure why. It must be something I said yonks ago about your age or something. I truly cant see how I am abusing forumites since you insist on telling me what I am doing wrong and I barely ever mention you whereas you have on occasion noted my absence as a relief. Many posters have a far more cavalier attitude to the forum than myself. JumpingJack (or something) regularly promotes threads which I can barely understand.

Hey, I earn the money in real - I can spend it how I like. You'd be truly disturbed if you saw how I waste it in real.

But really, why bother. It's not a question of "having it all" - coz that is work and piles of days and evenings giving up what others choose for themselves - family, children, partner, sleep and opting for something different. It's what you do with what you have to accomplish what you can for others. Sorry Mix, I may seem a real a-one piss-artist to you (and I admit I once was) but I think I am getting it together. Nothing wrong in saying that. And in a small way, SL has helped. And, in SL - and real - Hal (the prof) has helped in a big way.

It's nothing personal and I'd like you to point out one time I was patronizing to you. I post comments regarding your forum habits because you start too many inappropriate threads. Period.

Your questions are not too difficult. They are inappropriate. If you always asked questions that belong on this forum like your BBC thread instead of your bullshit social psychology ruminations I never would have said a word. If you had kept your philosophical dissertations confined to the Ignore thread, I would have ignored them.

You also keep doing things like leaving forever and then coming back or saying you are shutting up and then posting twice as much. When you do stuff like that, you invite commentaries like the ones I gave you in the past. But this will be my last lashing out in your general direction.

Hopefully I'll be able to have more self-control on my resolution than you've had on yours.

Ray has pretty much summed up everything I feel about Jig's postings, except about the Undead thread. I have to agree with Rio, her postings are too much for there. If anything all her threads need to be kept in ONE separate thread called "Jig's PsychoBabble of the Day". It would be a thread where I for one would either not venture or if I did read out of some latent masochistic tendency, I certainly would not be criticising Jig for posting this stuff there.

Yeah I would totally give up the undying thread if she were to post her every thought there all day.

I'm really not getting where all of this hostility is coming from. Nor, more importantly perhaps, why they are such a matter of debate. If Jig's threads are an irritant, the solution is surely an easy one, i.e., don't open them?

They're kind of self opening, like those spore plants on that Star Trek episode. You walk up to these innocent looking plants then all of a sudden the pop open and shoot spores at you that make you act funny. Next thing you know, Mr Spock has a girlfriend.

But in essence, you are right of course. But I think for a lot of people it's more frustration than hostility.

Jig (and possibly Scylla), maybe it will help if you get a little context on why Ray is labeling threads like this 'inappropriate'. Once upon a time, (late 2006), Resident Answers had more active Resident Moderation, which actually attempted to enforce the Forum Guidelines (points to menu bar at top of page). At that time, if you hit "New Posts", you saw mostly questions about how SL worked [questions that required concrete knowledge to answer (not opinion)]. You also saw a lot of early warnings of inworld borkitude, attempts to find workarounds for said borkitude (actually, there really was more borkitude back then), complaints about moderation, and much much less random social speculation than is tolerated nowadays. Very few "I don't like people to do *this* perfectly legal thing" threads were tolerated.

That's why the Undying Thread came about, because folks figured ONE thread for general goofing around would be tolerated. And it was.

Now of course, there are tons of threads started by folks who are idly speculating about this or that while they're at work, and sometimes I have to dig down to page 3 or 4 of New Posts to find a real question (which often has zero responses, because the cadre of actual question answerers missed it in the flood of babble). That's probably one reason why LL invented SL Answers, to get a more tight Q&A focus, without having to beat the forums back into shape.

So, yes, threads like this are "inappropriate" according to LL's guidelines. But indeed you could say that's irrelevant, if you don't really care whether noobs and others actually get answers to their questions, because said guidelines are largely unenforced.

Of course, as you note, the guidelines are clearly not enforced anymore, and not just in terms of the topics that are posted, but within the (sometimes otherwise legitimate) threads themselves. And it seems pretty clear moreover that the RA forum has also taken on a social function as well: a great many people just come here to "chat." Jig and others (including myself) can be forgiven, I think, for not seeing RA as limited to its original purpose, given its current employment by most users.

I certainly see the value of a forum devoted PURELY to answering questions for noobs and others, but the guidelines would have to be enforced pretty rigorously, with "inappropriate" individual postings as well as threads removed; "derailing" threads has grown almost to an art form here.

I wonder, if and/or when these fora are redone, LL would consider essentially splitting this forum into two, according to the functions it currently serves. One new forum would be devoted to answering (mostly) technical questions, and another would serve for more general chit chat and discussion of issues that relate in a more general way to SL. But for that to work, the moderators WOULD have to take a more active role in managing the "questions" forum.

It looks more like I wont be provding any threads at all. I face a suspension and I am not sure what that will mean for my sl future. I started a thread for advice on how to proceed. Feel defeated. No point is there in making a collection of art that Hal and I were actually gonna donate to Linden Labs for sl heritage? Whoever reported me has dealt me a real blow.

I've always been a bit unclear on the policy regarding "art" in SL. My understanding is that "art" is exempted, but I suppose that this might depend upon whether or not it was determined that the material you were displaying WAS "art" in the first place? But I also know that in the transcripts of at least one of the brown bag sessions regarding Adult Content, it seemed to have been determined that even art was subject to restrictions in PG regions . . . unless it was educational?

As for your suspension, if the violation is that old, I'll bet it has come and gone already.

From my perspective it is not hostility that I show, it is criticism and opinion. All that is posted here is fair game for debate, I fail to understand why you think that should not be so?
