How sensitive are you to forum remarks?

It depends who is saying it.. if it is someone I admire then yeh, I'd feel it, if it's one of the few I dislike, then I don't care.

After years of participating in and running various forums, including quite a few flame boards, I've developed a pretty thick hide, and some very sharp claws. ;)

This is pretty much me. I find myself being bothered more by the ideas raised by some of the topics than the posting behavior IN them. Anytime there's a hot thread there's usually someone who wins themself the golden turd award for lack of civility or respect. I don't like seeing that, but I wouldn't say it really "bothers" me so much.
For myself personally, I take critisism quite well, though I admit it does depend somewhat on the manner it's conveyed. Respect earns respect, and idiots get treated like idiots.. simple as that.

I think I am not so sensitive, I remember my first posting (or so) here I was slammed by one or two, dont even recall who they was.. But I also found one or two of you came to my defence... I learned that if you post it expect whatever reply is given take it with a grain er.. crystal of salt and move on....

However I have seen people go ape shit on each other........

I answered in the poll that I am not sensitive to attacks but upon further contemplation I believe that it depends on an ever changing set of variables. At times I am sensitive and at others I am not.

Some people either must post inebriated or are just that mean naturally.

I never post inebriated.

Pep (pleads guilty on only one count. :p )

PS Des, I am glad you are amused, but I think you might be missing the point somewhat.

It is hurtful when an insinuating remark is made from someone whom I have respect for. Sarcasm is uncalled for in most occasions, and a lethal way to set off more misunderstandings.

I personally encountered strangers/ acquaintances who said (or did) mean things, but I did not rebut it; I just moved away. It is futile to defend against some who like to use ad hominem attacks (or other forms) to stroke their egos or inflate more airiness into their cranial capacities.

Oh, doubtlessly true! It's entirely intentional. :)

well for what it's worth Jig, I still like ya, even if you are nice to pep when he needs a good kick in the rear.

and the thing that I've learend is that on the internet, there's mostly two kinds of acid commenters (not including the trolls that are almost always looking to bait you). the ones that really do get furiously angry, and the ones that look at it like a challenge to be the most cutting.... if I'm ever one I always shoot for the second type because it's more like a no stakes game of poker that way =)

Reading and spelling are not necesarily a complement of each other. I read a very great deal, but I still find English spelling very difficult and I wouldn't be seen dead using an Oxford comma!

3Ring probably reads all sort of things - "Snow Crash", for one - you should be giving a compliment for such a clever choice of avatar name.

You haven't read my post very well. I was suggesting that if 3Ring only read 'complements' (sic) she didn't read many posts about herself - and the posts would not be complimenting her spelling.

Pep (I doubt if she has even heard of 'Snow Crash' before this post. ;) )

PS I don't necessarily rise to every bait. :D

There's, uh, probably a lot of things you didn't know about lindens. Another, another interesting, uh, lindenism, uh, there are only three jobs available to a linden. The first is making shoes at night while, you know, while the old cobbler sleeps. You can bake cookies in a tree. But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

Pep, I doubt 3Ring would have picked her avatar name if she had not read "Snow Crash" in some detail - after all it was the book that led to SL.

It's not that anyway - I should thing about 98% of readers have no idea what you are rabbiting on about and those sort of posts make it sound like there is a "clique in the know" operating here. I just don't like that!

Some people do not think in flows of discursive thought - Einstein didn't. You and I may have English words running around in our brains all the time - not everyone is like that.

Because they don't take the time and care to read what I have taken time and care to write.

If those sort of people have any self-awareness (and a smidgeon of common sense) then they won't read my posts.

Pep (I think Argent might argue with your SL origin theory.)

I cannot say how sensitive i am, only that it upsets me to some degree (cables and wires jumping out fo my neck) *if* a Linden is posting here and also *if* a Linden is not posting here.

With all the other people I am relaxed.

Although he was familiar with the metaverse of Neal Stephenson's novel Snow Crash, Rosedale has said that his vision of virtual worlds predates that book, and that he conducted some early virtual world experiments during his college years at the University of California San Diego, where he studied physics.[6]
So far as I know, this reflects the facts. Of course, LL's founders did not stint at using Snow Crash as part of the mythos when starting LL -- in reality, they read a lot of fantasy/futurist literature in an attempt to project how SL's society would/could evolve.
