When someone makes a personal insult aimed at you or unleashes the general trolling/flames at you, how sensitive are you such attacks?
Some people, as pointed out in the 'ignore thread' i posted a few days ago, mentioned that nothing anyone says on a forum is worth enough to take to heart or can hurt them. Is this your view as well, or do the words people aim at you strike home in a personal way that you would wish they did not?
How well do you handle the flack?

MUTED!!!
/me votes 'somewhat' but even that's a bit strong. I tend not to care too much but it's more than 0.

I feel more upset if I can see that someone else has been upset.
I don't think I'm inclined to knee-jerk reactions - I try to engage brain before typing - but if I really was upset, I would probably lampoon the person in rhyme.

LOL I didn't know which you to answer as you posted twice, if someone feels that the only way to get a point across is to attack me then more fool them as I have more important things to worry about than someone being a dickhead in the forums I often wonder what these people are like in real life though don't you?

How well do you handle the flack? The answer is, I suppose, that I am much less sensitive than I was when I first started posting here. There is a very identifiable culture at work in this forum, which is reflected in both the serious responses and the banter that you find here. I think sometimes that new users here, not yet really conversant in how to read the tone of posts, are likely to take the hostility more to heart, or to simply misread replies. The fact that there is also a kind of "community" here too means that someone new may feel an outsider at first, and somewhat ganged-up on. So, the short answer generally is that, once one is a bit calloused and hardened -- has "been to the wars" already -- it's not overall too hard to roll with the punches. But it can be a rough experience at first. That said, I am often impressed with how gently and patiently some new posters are treated.

If I get upset or not has a lot more to do with what is going on in RL. Usually if I find myself upset over forum remarks, it is a good indication that it is time for me to take a computer break and get some sleep. I am such a big baby when I am tired.

It's a frame of mind thing, it's particularly annoying when I make a comment that someone takes completely the wrong way but generally any insults here are usually relatively tame and should be taken with a pinch of salt as most people seem to kiss and make up at some point.

Ciaran! How dare you make a X-rated posting in the forums. All posting should be PG. No kissing allowed.

I hate wasted keystrokes used just to come at me. I would rather argue the subject of the thread than have to waste time pile-driving some troll into the ground.

I try very hard not to be sensitive, but I do find myself getting irritated with certain people and some of their posts. What I find really astonishing is how nasty the attacks that are launched on people when one doesn't agree with someone's point of view. They rather duke it out here than dealing it privately or inworld. I see certain individuals intentionally baiting and antagonizing folks really for no reason other than for their personal amusement. I am often surprised how mean some can be in here. I often ask myself why don't they take that s*!t into PM. I can only conclude they relish in the attention it draws perhaps they are lacking that in some area of their life. But if it's juicy, it does provide a bit of theater and entertainment. But, I hate when it becomes personal and nasty. Just my two cents and in this economy, that is alot.

Just as in RL, I consider the source. If something is said by someone I respect, or admire, it may have some meaning. Otherwise...."It's only a forum. No one dies".

I try to be sensitive to what other people say about themselves, but often fail. I try to be completely insensitive to what other people say to or about me, and largely succeed.
