Nope.
Does it in the release candidate, too.

Two new releases of the Cool SL Viewer: v1.19.0.5 release 18 and v1.20.11.0 release 3.

They bring:
- A new feature, which is the possibility to prevent the notifications (those messages shown in a blue box, on the lower right corner of the window) from being echoed and logged in the main chat.
- RestrainedLife v1.11f (equivalent to Marine's v1.11.5).

Enjoy !

Cool Viewer for Windows

The Windows Version is ready, and again I'm one step ahead of Henri *giggles* with the new 1.20.12.0 sources ;)

Enjoy,
Boy

Tried using the Cool SL Viewer patch from the site. Downloaded version 1.19.0.5. Unfortunately the current version of SL is 1.19.1.4.

When I tried to run SL after patching I got this:

(<unknown>:11475): Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate theme engine in module_path: "qtcurve",
^C2008-06-30T23:10:01Z INFO: setQuitting: Setting app state to QUITTING
^Z
[1]+ Stopped ./secondlife

I'm not even running Gnome so I don't know why it's griping about QT, but it wont run.

No, you did not... I used the latest SVN version too, but patched the release number down to 11 because the changes were so minor when compared with the official v1.20.11.0.

Please, follow strictly the instructions given on the website: you _cannot_ mix two different versions: use the download links as provided on the site (i.e. use the official v1.19.0.5 release for the v1.19.0.5 Cool SL Viewer, and the official v1.20.11.0 release for the Cool SL Viewer v1.20.11.0).

Read carefully the instructions on http://sldev.free.fr/

I can't find anywhere to download 1.19.05. I guess I'll keep looking around. All I found was the 1.19.05 source code. I guess I could try to compile it.

If it's any help, I found it by visiting Henri's page http://sldev.free.fr/ and clicking on the link there, just below where you click to download the SecondLife_i686_1_19_0_5_CoolRelease_18-diff_files.tar.bz2.

It says, "download it from LL" and, if you click on it, takes you to http://download-secondlife-com.s3.amazonaws.com/SecondLife_i686_1_19_0_5.tar.bz2

Oh, thanks. All I saw was diff files. I'll check it out.

Well, it runs now, but it's way slower than the official client. I think I'll stick to that.

Slower ???? Are you kidding ? It's actually faster on all the computers I could test it on (no wonder given it uses gcc optimizations that the official viewer does not use).

This more sounds like a bad installation: in particular, check that libkdu_v42R.so is present in the lib/ directory and libkdu.so in the bin/ directory, else the viewer will use the OpenJPEG library which is indeed much slower than libkdu.

Also, check the graphic settings: as the Cool SL Viewer uses a different settings file, it will use different graphic settings than the ones you already set for the official viewer: your best bet is to copy the ~/.secondlife/user_settings/settings.xml file over the ~/.secondlife/user_settings/settings_coolslviewer.xml file, and then you will have the same settings for both the official and the Cool SL viewers.

I have an AMD Phenom 9500, 8800GT 512 and 3GB RAM running openSuse 11.0 64bit. On the official client, in Ultra, I get 30 to 50 fps on average. Loading up your client, standing in a fairly empty sim I was getting 9 to 15 fps using the default graphics settings and a draw-distance of 128. I managed to get almost 20fps by reducing the draw-distance to 64.

I will check the libraries and hopefully fix this. I would like to have a viewer that works well with Linux.

-----------------

Checked the libraries: libkdu exists in the proper directories. I guess I can try to reinstall.

-----------------------

TP'd to B&B skins using the cool viewer with graphics sliders all set to the center position, draw-distance=64m. Getting around 18fps.

Loaded SL viewer RC 1.20.1. TP'd to same spot, graphics settings on "Low". Getting around 35 fps.

---------------

Reinstalled Cool SL Viewer. TP'd to same spot. Still cannot get over 20fps even with all the graphics settings at minimum.

--------------------

Loaded RC. Set all graphics to minimum. TP'd to same spot. Getting 50fps.

Going to test with Cool Viewer version 1.20x and see if that changes anything. Unfortunately, have to go to work. :(

Will try later.

A viewer that's fast and doesn't crash and I don't have to boot into Windows would be nice. :)

Please, compare what is comparable... If you want to compare with LL's official builds, try with v1.19.0.5 (both SL's and mine) viewers, not with LL's v1.20RC and the Cool SL Viewer v1.19.0.5... If you want to compare with v1.20, do it with the Cool SL Viewer v1.20.11.0, and _do_ copy the settings_releasecanditate.xml above the settings_coolslviewer_rc.xml, so to be sure to have all the settings set alike on both viewers (there are also hidden settings that do matter for speed on multi-core processors, such as the one allowing to decode the textures on a different core).

v1.20 (both SL's and my versions) has proven to be faster than v1.19.0.5 on multicore CPUs but slower on single cores. For example, in a skybox, I get over 80fps with v1.19.0.5 and 72fps with v1.20.11.0 for equivalent rendering settings (all shaders off in v1.20), things becoming much worst with v1.20 in render challenging areas, and this with an Athlon XP 3200+ and a Nvidia 7600GT graphic card.

In any case, 15fps in a "fairly empty" sim is very poor a result for a multicore and a 8800GT graphic card: I get over 50fps in such conditions on my "old" computer... You might want to check that you do have the latest graphic drivers from the maker of your graphic chipset (_not_ from Suse or the maker of the card).

Thanks Henri. Will try proprietary drivers and test apples to apples and see what happens.

Yay. Standing outside at home. Viewer 1.20. Settings on Low. Getting around 50fps. Nice.

It took me three downloads before I could successfully untar this -- I kept on getting error messages about a possibly corrupted file -- and now that I have, I can't start SL:

Is it my bad luck or is there something wrong with the .tar file, do you think?

Yes, somehow the tar file failed to be fully uploaded to the site.

Anyway, here are two new releases, with a bug fix (crash bug in mouse-look when RestrainedLife was enabled and you worn a restraint restricting the touch action):

The Cool SL Viewers v1.19.0.5 release 19 and v1.20.12.0 release 2 are available for download.

Hiyas Henri,

Thanx for all the work you have done. Curious to know if you have put together a nice little thin client (texted base only). Something along the lines of SLeek and METAbolt. :-)

Ok... Found a bug in Marine's RestrainedLife patch v1.11.5.1 and corrected it...

Two new releases have therefore been published for Linux on http://sldev.free.fr/

Cool SL Viewer v1.19.0.5 release 20
Cool SL Viewer v1.20.12.0 release 3

Henry,

could I coax you into making a small patch that does what's described in http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-2358?focusedCommentId=59006#action_59006 ??

that problem's driving my wife nuts...

thanks in advance,
