From: Salazar Jack The hub land belongs to Governor Linden.
All the Nova Albion land owners share the resources with the hub land.
The City Slicker group has the ability to manage aspects of the hub at the pleasure of the Lindens. It is not our right and the situation could change at a moment's notice (or with no notice at all). What we do there should benefit the Lindens, Nova Albion's residents and the folks who visit.
How do we do that?
What are the benefits to the Lindens?
How does what we do at the hub benefit Nova Albion land owners?
What should/do the visitors get out of it? Well here is what I know about benefits. Since I have been here I have helped countless people as I am sure many of us have. Without our help some of these people would not own the SIM they do now, or would not be making neat content for residents to Purchace. They would not be giving back the help they recieved to others. To me that means hands on help. Of course...is what I do best.

From: Salazar Jack We could take advantage of the proximity to the Orientation Stations in Dore and direct folks there, instead of trying to provide that type of content at the Nova Albion Infohub itself. For what it's worth Yamato (the castle) is in need of some TLC, and it's orientation stations are no longer complete. From: someone 4) An electric trolley normally runs between the Luna Oaks Galleria in Luna to the Ahern Welcome Area in Dore on a rail line. The trolley has been disabled of late and it's unclear whether repairs are being made or not. JIRA entry here: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-1836(Just added my vote to this one. Thanks for opening the issue, Mari!) Yer welcome! Most recent update is that the Dore to Luna trolley was on the "fixem list" for after the SLRR mainline an the SLRR spur from Crumbi to Vicina. Work was intended to be nearing completion on the SLRR re-scripting at this point, but for the untimely demise of Railway Mole. The trolley still attempts to run out of Luna, but quickly skitters off the tracks and into the shopping mall. I'm surprised no one has been seriously injured. For what it is worth, the Bay City Trolley is also currently off the tracks as well. From: someone 4) One ungridded void region south of Grignano. Possible expansion? Site for full region infohub? A unexplored southeast water passage to the rest of the Mainland? The use for this space may be open to negotiation with the Lindens. The only *hint* I have ever see as to the shape of that area comes from the Linden Department of Public Works. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Image:BayCity_Map4.jpgIt is unclear if this is correct however, as there are other details presented that do not match our current reality. From: someone 6) Local neighbors; Ahern Welcome Area to the east, Shermerville suburbs to the north, Channel Island Asylum and Bay City to the west, Luna Oaks Galleria to the south. Nexus Prime to the southeast and DarkWood to the northeast. These areas are all noteworthy and some have quite a history going back to the earliest days of the SL Grid. Perhaps a cooperative project or series of events that highlight each region and the relationship between them? We have done things with Bay City and Shermerville in the past. I recently wrote up a key to a rather sizable map I did of the tri-city region, including some of the other local communities like Nexus Prime, Lusk Estates, and the ghost town that is Wild West Town. There is definitely a relationship between all of our areas, and one to foster. Certainly, we are an area rich in resources, with soon-to-be five regional landing points for new residents (new folks do have the option to land at Luna Oaks!) While Shermerville/Blumfield/West Haven't s residential associations are largely quiet, Bay City's is usually very busy, and I would love to see all our cities working together for the betterment of us all.

It is not our right and the situation could change at a moment's notice (or with no notice at all). What we do there should benefit the Lindens, Nova Albion's residents and the folks who visit. ... What are the benefits to the Lindens? How does what we do at the hub benefit Nova Albion land owners? What should/do the visitors get out of it?
Defining the stakeholders is already a good start- Lindens, regulars, private land owners, vistors. These arbitrary categories do bleed into each other and are intertwined, but it may be a useful place to start. New visitors - They benefit from direct interaction with veterans, which is probably the most efficient way to get up to speed in SL. It may have been forgotten just how many new visitors logged into Nova from scratch and were able to immediately identify a veteran to ask "How did you get that <appearance, creative gadget, etc>? Where can I find <event>?" and receive generally useful answers. From my own (limited) direct observations this was more the rule than the exceptions that receive much focus. Contrast this experience to the current situation in the Moose Beach sim. Despite plentiful resources to read and click on, many new arrivals here can't find anyone to serve as a temporary model. Land Owners - It's probably obvious that land prices are high because the Nova has traditionally been a desirable location. The land values represent the cachet the area has well above retail revenue that is generated from storefront sales. It's not an entire coincidence that with the sudden change in traffic pattern, more land is up for sale. To sustain relatively high prices in a grid landscape of more infohubs and vast malls, Nova has to be better- offer more value- than a typical infohub. The history and mythology of the place has a part to play here, but more than this, may be the city's ability to attract "invested" residents as it has traditionally. Invested Residents - To keep people coming back to a place, it has to offer new, continuing challenges/experiences of some kind, be that social, technical, or cultural. Lindens - The extraordinary land prices are a testament to the value that the city has achieved for itself over the past years. Perhaps it is naive for me, but I would imagine the question a Linden would ask is "How can we encourage the things that contributed to Nova's value, all over the grid?" rather than take a more narrow, functional focus. Along the lines of Personal help
06-08-2009 11:41
How about having some sort of open scheduled class. Where an experienced resident can hold a class on how to do something. I know there are several classes in SL on how to do things but this would give direct involvment for people of Nova Albion wanting to share what they know. Anywhere from building to basic texturing to scripting. It could be considered the Saturday morning Home Depot class.

The History info needs updating. The pics and the Pic board. I mean keep what is there but something that tells of what we are looking at. The pic board needs MORE pics! I love the full city pic though. Don't take it. That is what NA can be again and is my insiration. Of course something interactive.
And as I am a proponant of Real people helping, how about a pic board of residents willing to help and showing on and offline status.

I just noticed with someone physically turning my head to it...there is a JIRA for the Castle Orientation station. I would like to direct attention to it now because this castle is a very important key to the area. It could be utilized at all the Info Hubs. This build is a treasure for the greater Tri City area for sure. Lets get it Fixed up! https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-2398

Voted for it, but I notice a bug with the Jira system itself. For some reason, it puts my name in lower case. There seems to be no way to fix it.

From: Salazar Jack Did you try holding down the Shift key when you voted? I tried revoting several times - sometimes holding the shift key, but it seems to make no difference. Also, my account name is displayed incorrectly top right of the main screen. For some reason, my name alone is displayed in lower case. It's no big deal, but, culturally in SL, only a sub uses lower case.

I didn't know about the sub thing either. The last time someone told me to use a lower case on their name I just tried talking in a deeper voice.

Brainstorm Session
06-17-2009 22:09
Most of us have seen them in and around HUBS...those Orientation stations that show ya how to place a ball on the table, or show ya how to change your appearance or communicate with a parrot and such. If given the opportunity, How would you make these different? Would you take away any of them and replace it with...??? What are the real issues that most new residents want to know? Is there a way to make it into an orientation station? For example...I thought a station on how to edit an attachment would be useful. Any ideas out there?

Nova Albion Attractions
06-20-2009 03:17
Guided tours, similar to nature walks could be fun and easy to add. Note cards people can pick up in various spots, or read about various parts of the ruins and their history would be neat. Possibly guided tours every so often. Those are fun things to do in RL. Shopkeepers could even sell trinkets of the ruins. Lindens should like Nova Albion to remain populated if for no other reason that we offload some pressure from other full sims, such as Moose Beach, which helps increase new user's fresh experience, and keeps them around longer, perhaps even subscribing. I like the Canal tour idea. I haven't seen many cars using the roads, perhaps a rezzing point and a dealership of sorts would help increase exploration? I also like the idea of resident cleaners, who can remove inappropriate (non-sanctioned) objects. Though I suspect if that power was given, there would be a group of people who would want to pay Lindens to get their objects sanctioned... Still another source of income for the lindens, and each one would have to be dealt with on a case by case scenario, so they should be non-harmful objects. From: Deltango Vale Voted for it, but I notice a bug with the Jira system itself. For some reason, it puts my name in lower case. There seems to be no way to fix it. Does that have something to do with how you logged in? If you logged in with upper or lower case, does it remain?
