We have a Linden resident advertiser installed at the hub (Miramare area) and our blue "i" is on the map.

Traxx is working on a photobooth to encourage new residents to add thier photos to thier profiles. The sketch is currently in the Sistiana section. We will need some backgrounds and some scripting for it. This one will be a standing photobooth.

I'll post more comments/info in a few days. Lots to discuss. Be thinking about Nova Albion's anniversary (see other post) and how we can tie in the hub and it's contents with the 2nd anniversary coming up toward the end of March.

Later,

Salazar

I have started setting up the display area in Barcola for the city's historical artifacts. The seven polaroids of Lindens working on the city and the transit scrap Magellan Linden found are on display there now. Just have to figure out the best way to mount them and put them under glass. If it's easier for folks to zoom in and examine them without such protection then perhaps we should leave them out al aire libre.

I sent Traxx some general dimensions to work with for the photobooth that felt good to me. Tthere is a prim at the Sistiana location showing it's dimensions. This particular device is going to be set up to encourage new residents to put a photo into their profile. It will be scripted with poses amd multiple backgrounds to make it a little easier to take that perfect shot. Instruction to size and apply the resulting photo for their profile will be included.

I actually was playing around with thoughts for the map - I believe we could make one where the map (and a couple of satellites in the other sims) read the land owners for each area like on a daily basis and will allow the owners to go and shoot a command to edit the prim that represents their building, along with perhaps a touch message (or notecard). This would allow for the current owner of the plot (within a day's tolerence) to indirectly edit their building marker, but would not require traditional perms. If there is interest (and LL gives a thumbs up) I could probably script it.

/edit - Just a thought - you think it is relatively safe to assume the plots (originally created by LL) will remain consistently whole? If so, it would decrease the need to scan the entire four sims, just pluck the land owner of a plot in the center.

I also think we should have some form of inner-city event sign/board - something to announce events, new releases, etc. within the city. Perhaps we could be a sanctuary for events that go beyond the normal junk in the listing.

On the actual appearance of the ex-HUB, I believe I would prefer an open space type setup - a sort of central park thing.

Alondria -

You have some great ideas here. Are you still available to discuss and perhaps work on some of these things?

The city directory at the center of the bridge is on land now set to the City Slickers group. Any City Slicker can now set a marker on the map and update it whenever they want to. It will stay AND NOT have to be linked to the bridge! Non City Slicker members will have thier prims returned after (I think) 60 minutes or so.

Just placed the photobooth near the Sistiana spot. Sure was strange working on a small structure like that. : )

Hey, my moss splat is still there!

Two Things...

1) Folks have begun adding thier map markers to the Nova Albion City Directory. You can shift-drag a marker now. The permissions have been fixed. Put anything you want in it. Except no hover text please.

2) I just send Torley Linden the following notecard to help her with making some changes to the hub area About Land info windows. she is going to make the changes as soon as she can:

NOVA ALBION INFOHUB

First a couple of questions and then the info to help you fill in the About Land names, descriptions, landing points and teleport routing. I tried to group all the changes for one area together to make it go faster for you.

QUESTIONS

Can we list all four hub locations in the Find Directory, under "Gathering Place?"

Can we get Nigel Linden's mid-city trolley stop moved from Miramare (47, 6, 27) to Miramare (7, 6, 26)? So it can stop directly in front of the Miramare Infohub landing point where the benches are? Then it would be sort of a mini transit hub too.

NOVA ALBION INFOHUB ABOUT LAND CHANGES

MIRAMARE

Name:
Nova Albion Infohub - Miramare

Description:
Official Hub Landing Point -- a good place to start when you're new to the city. Find Linden info, help and pointers here.

Landing Point:
Miramare (8, 24, 25)

Teleport Routing:
Landing Point

Also, the non-hub Miramare Linden land's name should be "Protected Land." And description should be "Not For Sale." Please removed Infohub photo from non-hub Miramare land. This makes it consistent with the other non-hub Linden land in the other three regions.

BARCOLA

Name:
Nova Albion Infohub - Barcola

Description:
City Directory. Research the city's history. Examine artifacts discovered by Magellan Linden. Explore the lost city ruins.

Landing Point:
Barcola (224, 6, 36)

Teleport Routing:
Landing Point

GRIGNANO

Name:
Nova Albion Infohub - Grignano

Description:
City Happenings. Find out what's going on in and around the city -- art, culture, performances, special exhibits and events.

Landing Point:
Grignano (3, 244, 25)

Teleport Routing:
Landing Point

Please removed Infohub photo from non-hub Grignano land.

SISTIANA

Name:
Nova Albion Infohub - Sistiana

Desciption:
Activity Center. Go dumpster diving. Play a game of chess. Get the perfect shot for your profile & leave your mark on the city.

Landing Point:
Sistiana (214, 244, 25)

Teleport Routing:
Landing Point

Idea For Infohub Ring...
04-04-2006 10:39
Tossing an idea out here:

I thought it might be fun to have a portal at our hub that one could view all the other Infohubs through (static images dialed via buttons) and then step into the image (phantom) be given a landmark to the hub they were viewing (volume detect and landmark dispenser) and then whisked away to the next hub when they click the teleport button on their landmark. Might be a fun way to visit the other resident-made hubs.

Maybe we could see about getting this put at all infohubs so that folks can travel between hubs and use them a bit like the old telehubs if they want to. A bit of nostaliga.

Maybe they get a little surprise for using the portal?

Salazar, great idea! i like the nostalgic feel of it, while at the same time bringing more effective use to the InfoHubs.

i support/approve of this idea. :D

Infohub Teleporter Rough Prototype
04-04-2006 21:24
Here is a photo of a rough idea I've built out near the landing point. The slightly distorted image that rotates inside the sphere is of the Mahulu Infohub area near Mt. G'al. The sphere detects if a person steps into the center and hands them a landmark to the Mahulu Infohub. All the person needs to do is click the teleport button.

This is going to need a lot of work, refinement and development... but I wanted to show you sort of what I had in mind. Now to figure out how to let someone cycle through views of different hub areas and give the appropriate landmark when needed...

Graffiti Wall Updated
04-08-2006 19:57
I just updated the Sistiana Hub area graffiti wall display to allow anyone to Control-Drag a texture to it. There is a can of spray paint on the ground in front of the wall that gives a notecard with instructions on how to add a tag texture to the wall.

I was wondering why we don't have a blue I like the other hubs do.

I've been holding an event on my plots since Thursday and in the info telling them to explore the new hub. It has brought in a lot of traffic =]

After we reparceled the land around the hub area, when we were installing the new hub structures, Torely restored the blue infohub "I" over the old Miramare hub landing point. Then at some point it disappeared. I'll send her a message and see what has happened.

Infohub "I" Update - 11:40am, April 17, 2006: I just received word from Torley... she is restoring the blue map icon for the Nova Albion Infohub. We don't know why it was erased.

^ Should be all restored now. Was there any building done that may have changed it? It's connected to the landing pad point thing.

Anyhoo we will keep an eye out... and yeahhhh YOU GOTTA HAVE "TEH BLUE I"! :D

Sal, kewl connection with Karsten's Infohub--now, why does that remind me of a certain fave Mysty game of mine? ;)

I have been so busy the last few weeks and it has been difficult finding time to work on the hub. The latest update has fried my portal and I'm afraid I can't make the crossover for a few days. The Lindens are working on a fix for those of us using Mac OS X 10.3.9. Until then, my portal is offline and I'm stuck in Seattle.

Regarding the teleporter sphere at the infohub, I've set up a one way destination hard-linked to the infohub at the base of Mt. G'al. I need some scripting help to allow a user to cycle through a series of infohub destinations, pick one and initiate a connection. I know Osprey Therian is in charge of the infohub at Ambet, so I will see about getting a destination set up there. Also, when we get a good working prototype, I'd like to see about getting space at the other infohubs to set up teleporters there if possible and connect them.

As far as the rest of the infohub goes, there are some unfinished things. Any City Slicker can copy a red prim on the city directory at the center part of the pedestrian bridge and set up their own marker. Also, the dock area under the Linden road/bridge to Barcola could use some finishing. Traxx Hathor built a wonderful photobooth, but I haven't had a chance to play around with scripting for it yet. It's sitting in the Sistiana section of the hub. We need to install some sort of interactive info to explain the photos and transit scrap in the Barcola hub section. Those are the main things that bubble to the top of my mind. I'll make a more complete list in the next few days.

Any ideas for other things to place or do at the infohubs are welcome. Maybe even a suggestion box at the hub to solicit ideas from passerbys?

Updates are always a crapshoot; we never know if we're going to be unlucky/frozen out. I've been working hard on my latest full sim job, then playing hard in GW when I finished the job ahead of schedule, so it wasn't until yesterday that I came back to the infohub, and set up my marker. If anybody needs a free script for landmark giver or notecard giver they're in my marker -- just take a copy.

Hey, I realllllly like Marcos's space needle marker; it just needs a tiny little moss splat on top. : D

Hope you don't mind, Sal -- I noticed that the concrete base for the marker map still had the old default texture mapping (you know how it gets distorted when you topsize the prim?). I switched it to planar mapping. Also individually tweaked the texture offsets on one set of steps as a demo. (The steps leading down from the road as you're walking south near the foot of the overpass ramp). If you like the effect you might want to replicate that set of steps to the other locations, or if you dislike it you can replicate a nearby set of steps into that location -- I won't take it personally!

You could ask Alondria how that sort of thing is scripted. Maybe all you need is a few PG pose balls? My concept sketch can be deleted, btw. That was only to show people what I was thinking of building in case they wanted changes. I tried to delete it myself, but the perms wouldn't allow it.

The ruins look interesting with that bump-map enabled. I'd sure like to see a bit of foliage there too. Or at least a moss splat. : )

I was finally able to make the crossover on Friday. That last update the Lindens made did the trick. I'll make a point to set everything I've placed at the hub to the group and with full perms so other City Slicker groiup members can modify elements there as needed.

I don't mind at all. The directory base looks much better, as do the steps you modified the textures on. MUCH better! Thanks for doing that. Offsetting the textures makes such a diffference!

I'll made a point to contact Alondria this weekend and see if she has some time to help. I suppose really the photobooth will be just a glorified pose stand with some nice camera angles and switchable backdrops built in.

The entire hub area is set so that the land is editable. Since Nova Albion does not allow terraforming on a region-wide basis it is impossible to terraform land in the city even if the land is set to Edit Land. Because Edit Land is "on" at the hub, anyone can plant Linden trees and grasses there. If you are a City Slicker group member and you are wearing the group tag, your trees and plant will persist past the 60 min autoreturn Torley set. So anyone wanting to practice their green thumb, please do! Be sure to set your plantings to the group and to share with the group so we can do some weeding and pruning if needed.

Up on the top floor of my tower 2 there is a cute little dresser that I got from the Linden Freebie Board. Your camera automatically swings around to look at you and you can do a variety of faces. (its supposed to be like looking in the mirror). Maybe we could use something like this - its mod/copy/trans/free to copy if you want to go check it out.

What Should The Guidelines Be For Hub Content?
11-30-2006 21:54
This is a post to get the ball rolling on a discussion for what guidelines there should be for us, as City Slicker members, for placing content at the Nova Albion Infohub. I had made a few comments in this post and am very interested in what everyone else thinks.

Some more ideas from this post.

I think announcing events are cool. I had envisioned some movie-style poster stands in the Grignano section of the hub promoting city-wide Nova Albion events. But new product announcements should go in the resident advertiser. Since we don't pay for the land, I don't feel right about placing commercial messages there.

We need to remember that the land is still owned by the Lindens and our group is just a steward of it. What we place there needs to be appropriate for Linden-owned land. We can still put our own spin on it and have it reflect the city and the different neighborhoods there.

Once we get something nailed down, perhaps we can post it at the hub in a City Slicker area? That area could be an inworld counterpart to this group forum area.

Anything we are unsure about can always be run by Torley Linden, our infohub contact Linden. She can be reached best at torley@lindenlab.com, it usually takes a few days to get a response.

All Content Should Be Set To Share With Group
11-30-2006 22:27
All content placed at the hub should be set to "Share With Group." That way any City Slicker can modify or update anything that's there. I will get all the items I placed set that way by the end of this weekend (12/2 & 12/3).

Torley Linden No Longer Our Contact
03-26-2009 22:30
I believe our Linden contacts for Hub-related issues are the Lindens in charge of the Mainland and the Linden Department of Public Works (LDPW). Jack Linden, Michael Linden and (possibly) Blondin Linden (among others). I'll research that some more. Torley Linden, the person I originally worked with to set up the Nova Albion Infohub in 2006, has since moved on to other responsibilities.

I put up a couple resident art/building displays in Sistiana. I will set those to group and also give Lisa mod rights to my objects in case they ever need to be or moved quickly or what not. Also if anything of mine is in the way or a problem just please let me know and I will fix it! Just trying to give new people things to aspire to and look at and also display some local Albion residents amazing stuff. :) I think if we keep putting up new small things like this it will make people want to come see whats new in Nova!
I also wanted to add that the info hub area looks so cramped and everything is confined to that small area. When you come in world or in that spot the first thing you want to do is move away from it because there are SO many avatars that come in there. I think if they pushed back the kiosks and opened up the area a bit people would see the tutorial adverts and kiosks better. Just a thought. <3 Nellie
