Hi, Philabee.
Another older folk [63] who would also enjoy in SL:
"... virtual life that involves walking on the beach and sitting in coffee shops discussing cosmology. Maybe SL doesn't work that way." Philabee Wright.[/QUOTE]
SL can be what we want ...

Well I'm 19, but it makes me wonder what things will be like when I am 63.

My SL partner is 63 and I am 28. He is a really wonderful man. I think I taught HIM about SL when I was a Helper - but he has taught THIS young woman many many things. Age is NOTHING here. His eyes are wide open and his heart is young. I think we have stayed together because sometimes HE acts younger than me. Here there is no prejudice against generation-gap relationships. I am thankful I met him and share my SL life with him.

From: Philabee Wright Hi!
I'm 59. Still thin and in shape.
What I wanted to tell you is that you'll probably go through a period of transistion as I did between about 42-52 in which everything seemed to go at once. But I got stronger again and and now am enjoying a nice period of good health and relative happiness.
Just maintain your health by doing what you have to do and you'll probably start to feel better again. It happened for me.
Good night.
Philabee Wright Thanks for that... I missed it when you first posted. I'll tell you, it did make me feel a WHOLE lot better. I'm still thin, too, thank goodness, and the cholesterol is dealt with for the moment. Constant battle, but what isn't. As for hapiness? I refuse to have anything but happiness in my life! *grin*

From: Oldman Woodget I got the impression the other night that I may well be the oldest person in SL> I mean the oldest in real world age. I am 61 years old and have not found anyone else near that age.
So, who is the oldest person taking part in the wonderful escape from life? So is this the real reason you left SL? Discovering you no loner held the record? Reference: /327/1e/200503/1.html

Please understand that what I am about to say, I say with the utmost of respect and, if you could, would you relay the message to her from me? Naughty little bitch! I love her! *grin* Here's to hoping I'm still tabledancing at 80! Hell, here's to hoping I'm still doing it at 40! *lol*

I don't think age would be a barrier to people coming into SL - I'd imagine that if 100 80 year-olds and 100 18 year-olds were introduced to SL, roughly the same proportions in each age group would be interested. When the clubs start doing 'best in beige' contests and shops are full of prim carpet slippers and gardens start to acquire neat rows of vegetables we could assume that the age profile of SL is going up - but then that could just be us getting older LOL!!!

Tell her to keep "dancing"!! btw I'm 31 in RL..and have met a few in the 60-65 yr range. Not to talk about another game but back in the TSO days I used to chat it up with a 70-something grandma who was learning the ropes from her teen granddaughter. Those were wonderful insightful chats.

Hi all! It's nice to see that you all are getting to know eachother, and information about yourselves in Real Life aswell as SecondLife. However there are some posts in which I believe are against the TOS; Some of you are posting other resident's ages and information, which again, to my assumption, is against the terms of service. Please keep all your posts on information about yourself, it is unknown weather or not those people would care to have their information displaced in public Take care

Age is just a number .... mines unlisted

I personally love the age differences in SL It's refreshing to find people near my own age yet others who are younger and know so much about things I have no clue about...
Perhaps we should have an "Oldies but Goodies" club ?
Hugs to all who want them daquari

Well, it seems like there are more older folks coming in there.. Hopefully they get it to work.
I personally dropped my account, or put it on hold or what ever you call it. I got out,, too many unresolved problems, no help available. Just not to my liking,, I did give all my money away to the few good friends I had made. And left them my email to keep in touch..
Not a word,, so either they don't care or Linden dumped my messages.. What ever.

I'm a little over 3 years old... April 2004 when I 'became'.... lol... To be more precise, I'm older than my teeth... I have a Daughter (1 of 3) who is older than the average user in SL.. my youngest uses SL and is a business partner... oh, and I have a son of 3 1/2 (not in SL) who is younger than 3 of my 4 grandchildren....

I am 55, and meet many people in RL who are much younger than me. On the surface, there seems to be differences between us even though there are many commonalities. On SL, those "differences" generally disappear, except from those younger people who hold preconceived and sometimes incorrect notions about us older folks--and vice versa. Avanti

It is true that this environment allows everyone to explore their 'inner self'. Unlike RL, apart from the odd '60's' club that plays music from that era (which most youngsters attend and say 'Oh, I prefer the remake of this by such and such a band last year, is this a new release version?'.... Getting up to dance doesnt bring forth the standard responces from your children of 'Oh gawd, dad's up dancing again'.... lol... I have only seen a few old looking avatars, perhaps on the basis of what SL brings to us, is a way to portray how we see ourselves within... rather than have a constant reminder of how we are perceived from the outside. Ever looked in the mirror somedays and asked yourself.. who is this person starring back at me, it doesn't look like me from behind these eyes? With so many cultures changing whereby they dispell the older generations experience as being 'not the now'.... the platforms like SL is a way where we are still initially perceived as being perhaps still useful? All the time my facalties are as sharp as a pin, no one will ever tell my real age as there are no other tell tale signs to the contrary.

Old? bah! We're only as old as we feel!!
08-14-2007 05:07
When interviewed about his age, not long ago, actor Gene Hackman said "I still feel like I'm 18." ** Guys, all my best friends in SL are well over 40 and my best bud is 62. And a recent study showed that most online, social gaming is done by women over 40!! In SL, I am delighted to be in the company of mature folks, from around the world, who know how to have fun without taking it too seriously. It was ok being in my 20s and 30s, but being young & sexy never won me any prizes nor a rich husband -lol. So if any of yu mature folks wanna network in-game... then lets get together... have some virtual libations.. and enjoy - hugz!!

I'm 55, and one of my best friends in SL is 76. In RL, both he and his 78 year old wife could run circles around me! They are amazing. They both play tennis several times a week, just got back from a month in Europe where they hiked all over the place, and both are active in state and community politics. I would probably keel over dead trying to keep up with them!

Older than dirt
08-30-2007 09:10
I think a lot of people tend to be surprized at finding out that there are "older" people in SL. SL isn't a typical online "game" .. you don't go around killing everthing that moves, there are no "points" scored, etc. It's a life, and everyone lives a life of some kind, it's just that here you can create and live a life that is your dream, your fantasy.
I get the impression that a lot of 'younger' folks who join SL quickly leave because they find out it really isn't a 'game' as such. And the older folks stay .. or at least a higher percentage of them do, in my opinion.
I see a lot of posts concerning people here who are in their 60s thru 80s and are active and healthy in RL. Let me point you to another category of people in SL. What about those who are physically unable to fully participate in RL ? People who have a disability, a disease, etc which precludes them from getting outside on a regular basis. It's nice that there are RL "singles" clubs and dances in many places, but if someone arrives in a wheelchair, there's not a lot of chance they will meet that special someone.
I've met people in SL who are autistic and can't use the new voice chat, they have to communicate via typing and reading the responses. I've met people in SL who have lupus and can't get around. There are a lot of handicapped / disabled people in SL, probably four or five times as many as you'd normally met in RL .. if not more.
As for meeting people in their 50s and up in SL, try the Oldies, Blues, Jazz and Classic dance clubs .. Runaround Sues, Roll Over Beethovens, Bogarts, Red Velvet, Avillon ballroom, Phat Cats, Allens, Juke Joint Blues, Carnells Palm Paradise, Skylight Village Diner, etc. My experience is that those kinds of places tend to have people in the more "mature" category, although there are folks of every age group of course.
If you go to the hard rock joints, you'll find the younger crowds. It's all about the MUSIC !!!!
BigJack (who grew up in the 50s and now sells Dirty Dance balls in SL !)
