Ditto on not liking the friends list not being on the main page and the forums opening in a new browser. If i wanted that, i would have done that myself.
I was just going to say that. I dislike having another window open.

New Windows is one of those big web no-nos that bores like Jakob Neilsen will go on and on about, but it happens to be one I agree with. We have a back button and we know how to use them!

1) Wheres the website profiles that were said to be coming since uh 1.7?
2) Why isn't the forums layout and menu bar and website layout updated to go along with the new theme? 3) You cut off Hamlets head! Under What Is Second Life? the pictures for "The World" Are great, visual representation of what stuff is going to look like is fantastic to have before jumping in a world. I would really like to see if the same kind of image style was applied to things like Building and Scripting and other categories that show more of the interface when using those tools. http://secondlife.com/partners/affiliates.php - Where are the affiliates? Shouldn't there be a list of these Affiliated websites somewhere? http://secondlife.com/community/fansites.php - What about having a "Show All" link somewhere on here? Other than those, it looks great. I like that most things on the site are actualy from the same layout instead of some parts being one layout and another being another, exception of course being the forums. ![]() _____________________

I still can't find the leaderboard. This is very vital information. If the top L$ holders are not public, then somebody can manipulate the L$ exchange rate and hold whole market hostage by systematic hording/unloading of L$. I know at least one big company in Hongkong who has tried exactly that in the past, but I (and other L$ owners with actual stake in the SL economy) have systematically neutralized their attacks by using our own L$ reserves to keep things stable. I know this went largely unnoticed, but it was very important for stable economy. As residents we absolutely must be able to see when somebody starts massively hord or unload L$!

I still can't find the leaderboard. This is very vital information. If there is a monopoly, or oligopoly, at least I want to know about it. ![]() Admittedly this will lead to some griefing against those who are in the Top 10. But - as in First Life - this might be a kind of "the cost of success". |

It looks pretty screwed up in Firefox to me with text getting cut off and running over other text. I'd make this an attachment but they don't seem to be available in this part of the forums.
[edited to add] If this is some bug in Firefox the Mozilla people should fix it. If it is because LL designs for IE only that is pretty lame. I tend to think it is the latter because I've gotten newsletters from LL that do the same thing though much worse which I can't read in Thunderbird so I delete them. The newsletters seem to have gotten better though. |

Essence, just use smaller fonts... Ctrl - should do the trick.

The new page looks mostly good, but there are a few things I don't like
![]() * I don't like that the Community page doesn't show friends online without having to click a link. *The map is pretty annoying to use since "Try clicking this postcard" and "Hint..." shows on the map every single time it loads, it would be ok if it showed once, but every time is too much. *Under "What is Second life" - "The World" it shows area in acres, I'd like to think that square meters/kilometers would be more international. |

Yes, the Blue on Blue colors in the forums are awful now. Totally unusable.

I find the new animated thingy on the map to be rather annoying (since it does it every time I visit the main page, no matter how many times I've seen it before).
Could you check for login cookies or something, and if present, turn that off? Also, the forum header images are not working anymore. I'll second (or whatever) the "don't use explicit sizes for fonts in CSS styles" complaint, and the "forums are uglier now" complaint (though I don't find it unusable, just annoying .. and certain bits are now invisible, such as the custom title and location). Have a look at the fringing around the smileys and other icons when you are writing a post, for example (the lower set that applies to the entire post, not the set on the right). _____________________

The map animation upon arrival to secondlife.com was annoying the from the first, and it doesn't get any better.
The fonts in the "articles" are too small to suit my eyes. Having a big 2D aerial map may not be the best way to convey that the product in a 3D virtual environment. It might look like an old tank war game to those idling surfing upon it. I don't actually see anything on the homepage that conveys what the product is. The words "3D Online Virtual World", or something like that, or a video clip of some avatars moving and chatting, that doesn't start till a control is clicked, would do. The Residents Links dropdown doesn't show up very well. _____________________

*Problem: Page is almost completely unreadable in Firefox 1.5 I have screenshots, how do i attach? Assuming you are talking about the forums, something just broke is all, it will get fixed. The rest of the website seems ok that I have seen except for the forums looks like it is supposed to in IE, Firefox 1.5, and Opera. For reading the forums while they are broken you might , one you clidk on a thread, find the thread tools and click the printable option. It's plain black and white and no pics but it is nice and legible. _____________________

It seems that many people are having problems with the "default font" — for some it's too small, for others too big. As said before, on the Gecko-based browsers (Firefox & friends) Ctrl + and Ctrl - changes that in a second (Cmd + and Cmd - for the Mac users, it also works under Safari) and I believe the same should work under IE as well (sorry, I just have an old version to try that out — and it certainly works under that version).
I think that this new page has been purposefully designed for 1024 x 768. Which makes a lot of sense, if your computer is not able to do at least that resolution, chances are that it won't run Second Life — although you can run Second Life on a smaller resolution, if your monitor does not support anything bigger than 800 x 600. IMHO, I understand that some may be vision impaired and need a larger font (even on a 1024 x 768 or bigger display). That's where Ctrl + comes in. Fonts are something that are under the user's control. _____________________

The look might be improved (I never thought the old one is ugly) but the functionality and content is a step back. Several items are missing, and the marketing stuff is much more "in your face" now. Do I really need to see "What is second life" "Showcase" and "Partners" link on each page? Why do I get bombarded with "Upgrage to premium account" banners? I already have premium account.
Something untested, incomplete and with technical deficiencies (broken formatting on non-IE browsers - how is this even possible in 2005?) went live without any prior warning. This does not shed good light on LL's release process. |

Like others, the friends online in the top corner being moved to a link is very annoying. And the blue on blue is totally unreadable. I had to specify colours, then tell it to over-ride webpage colours, just to be able to read it again
![]() Otherwise, I like the look of the new site. Just one question though, the map on the frontpage is now just a grey box to me, anyone know why? |

As I now see what everyone is talking about with the Blue On Blue forums, I think this is a bug rather then a "update." Hopefully they will notice soon, and fix.

Yes, Blue on Blue ... heartache on heartache
12-22-2005 11:47
ADD: Never mind. It healed.
STRIKE: The blue-on-blue blues seem to have appeared with the Winter Solstice ... should we blame the Druidian Conspiracy? Will we have to wait for the Spring Equinox for the light to return???? All pagan beliefs aside, light blue on dark blue is bad enough, but the forums use of dark blue on dark blue for some text is inexcusable (e.g. "Welcome <your name here>. You last visited Today at 10:02 AM). _____________________
