Gosh, one thing I suddenly realized, relatively speaking. The website looks so light and airy, SL's own interface looks so dark and scary. :O

I am missing the leaderboard. The amount of L$ on the top 10 accounts and the weekly L$ changes is very vital economic data that we really need.

I'm about to go look around, but I just noticed something that's been bugging me. Could you link the SL logo at the top left corner of the forums to the main page?

Suggestions:
 1. RSS feed for the community news (under "The Latest" on http://secondlife.com/community/).
 2. Integration into Google's personalized homepage (documentation) for "Friends online" and LindeX. Feel free to use the ones I've made as template (http://sdfjkl.org/ig/secondlife-friends.xml and http://sdfjkl.org/ig/secondlife-lindex.xml (screenshot). To try them, create a personalized homepage, click "Add Content" in the top left corner, expand "Create a Section" and paste the URLs as above into the input field. They work, but the IFRAME content doesn't quite match googles requirements and only you can change that.

I really like the new look, and the menu menu structure on the left is much clearer. :)

Only a small quibble, I wish the Forums link did not open a new browser window.

Thanks, Fairge

I also echo the call for the Friends Online list to return to the main page when logged in, rather than having to hunt down through several menus to find it. I'm also not fond of the forums showing up in a new menu.

Finally, yes, please make sure the webpage shows easily in non-IE web browsers. Many of us use Mozilla or Firefox. There's NO reason to code a page so it only shows clearly in IE.

I LOVE IT!....cept 1 thing...on the old website when you went to the community page your online friends were shown in the corner...now you gotta go to a seperate page...its alot of trouble but it was very handy.

I have to agree with this comment, removeing the friends from the main Community page did not help. I always passed through Community on my way to the forums to see who was on, now I have to take a detour for the same information.

Page not loading
12-20-2005 06:53
Hello,
Just wanted to let you know that this page isn't loading:
http://secondlife.com/community/avatar.php

I also sent an e-mail to support@secondlife.com before coming here.

In the mean-time. . . is there anywhere else I can grab the obj files and such from?
I want to see my skins in Poser before I upload them.

If not, I guess I can make myself wait. Tapping my fingers on the desk never seems to make things go faster. *grin*

Thanks,

It's really great. Nice work Bub and co. The map is FABBY. Nice to see some new faces too, it could use a little more Ingrid though.

Our account balance #s in the "Transactions History" page are blocked by the "Your Account" box to the left.

This is great! This is what I always wanted, now my bf cant see those darn implicating numbers.

Now, someway somehow, we have to find a way to do the same to his credit card transaction history.

In-World Transactions page is messed up, as the center column overlaps underneath the right column. On Firefox, at least. Didn't want to take the 2 minutes it takes to start IE.

I really like it... I think it makes the whole concept of SL more clear. It's certainly more pleasing on the eyes. Nice work!
Yeah, ditto. :)
Very nice look and feel and the menuing system on the left is far more rational.

Critque/complaints/notes:

The new window for the forums is a bad idea, but likely this is because it's still not revamped?

On that note, for users of Safari on Mac, a lot of the forum functionality is missing. It would be nice when the forums are redone if it worked on all platforms and with all browsers. In particular, nothing but the basic post editor has ever worked for me. It would be nice not to have to type in all the tags by hand on very post. This may not be possible without switching to a new forum codebase I guess as it seems like it might be related to non-standard javascript in the forum itself? I am not savy enough with web design to say anything much other than it has simply *never* worked though.

There is also a bug on the forums where I often can't post a reply for an hour or so after the initial post has been made. This is similiar to other bugs I have seen where the website is not coded for anything other than American date formats. Please ensure that the forums work for all client browsers in all countries and especially all date formats.

The only other complaint I have is the lack of links to forum and friends on-line from the main page (mentioned to death already I guess), and the fact that our profiles from in-game still dont show up. I think we were told previously that the next web site update would include that but I am not totally sure.

It's not as Firefox-friendly as I like. The "friends online" shows up in the strangest places... Like a lot of other people, I access the forums via the main community page and it was nice to just be able to see it right there. Then I noticed something: that side "friends online" menu was available on other pages: Volunteer, Resident Sites, Refer Friends, Partners, Police Blotter, and Troubleshooting.

I like that the navigation links stay up on the left side, so you can quickly access the forums or almost any other part of the website no matter where you have navigated to in the site - the only exception being Feature Voting, the only ways back to the main website are either through the browser buttons or clicking on the second life logo, which puts you on the main page....

now to translate ramble to English: some of the navigation is a bit odd, it's not Firefox friendly.... but overall, it's an improvement :D

I see the same thing, other than a few bugs that need to get worked out, it's excellent, nice, clear, and the links don't more to new places when you change pages.

Definitely a much better look. Since so many people posted having problems with non-IE browsers (I hardly use anything else besides Safari these days), I tried the site with all browsers I have installed somewhere — Mozilla, Camino, Flock, Opera, yes, even text-based ones. So far I haven't found anything extraordinarily wrong on either of those (where exactly do you see the "overlapping effect"?). Maybe I have to look more carefully?

Anyway, what I really like is that finally the content starts to become more interesting and much more in line to what many people have been doing with SL in the past year, and will do much more in the upcoming year: professional use of Second Life. Gone are the days of "Join this incredible game and have fun!". Now the official definition on the site is "Second Life is a 3-D virtual world entirely built and owned by its residents. Since opening to the public in 2003, it has grown explosively and today is inhabited by nearly 100,000 people from around the globe." Kudos to the marketing team!

Still, someone looking for "a game" will probably find it hidden somewhere in the images and some of the descriptions. But this clear change of focus is a very, very good idea, and a strong way to encourage a certain directed goal — no more TSO, SWG, There, or WoW refugees, but professionals on other areas who are interested in building a virtual world — and having lots of fun doing so! I applaud this decision.

I've also browsed quite a bit without being logged in. Previously, some very important informative areas were only available to registered users, and it seems that there is much more content now that doesn't require to be logged in. This is quite important for everyone who repeatedly is trying to promote SL and has to give away the URL some time. We need professionals, teachers, professors, companies to be able to get as much information as they can absorb about the virtual world. All this has improved enormously on this version of the Web site! If we could get a glimpse of the transactions at the LindeX (at least partial data) without being logged in, that would be perfect — I understand that Lawrence and his team are working on it!

Being a prude in terms of HTML (I'm not a web designer myself — I just love to annoy web designers ;) ), I've noticed that there has been a mix of "styles" in HTML coding employed on the site — half of it already relies upon CSS, the other half is still the good, old, 1994-style tables. The W3 Validator lists 168 errors or so, but almost all are due to having OMITTAG NO set (that'll get rid of most of the errors) and to hiccups on parsing Javascript because someone sadly forgot the type="text/javascript". Fixing those two will probably get the code crisp & clean and 100% HTML-compatible!

All in all — excellent job, as far as I can see, although I miss having my blog listed somewhere there, hehe ;) Ah well, I guess it's time others got their chance as well ;)

The time-series exchange rate chart is still missing from the LindeX market page.

Scripting Wiki is pretty hidden

I'd suggest putting a link to the scripting wiki on the help, SL wiki, and developer pages. As it is, it's pretty well hidden.

THANK YOU for putting my sim back on the map. Literally. :)

As a side note, I notice the lower of my two skyboxes is on the map, but the higher one is not. I suppose there's a height limit to it between 300 and 500 meters... probably needed to avoid lag in map updating.

Ditto on not liking the friends list not being on the main page and the forums opening in a new browser. If i wanted that, i would have done that myself.
