Force sunset: regularly and, while you are listening will someone PLEASE fix it so it is labeled properly 'Force SUNRISE', or better still make it a toggle called something like 'Force day/night'? Pretty PLEASE?
Hiding all sorts of terrain and other features, often when chasing 'lost' stuff, sometimes so I can see what I'm trying to work on (switching off trees is a fave as is Surface Patch). Turning Fog off is very useful for finding/working on stuff underwater. A few things don't appear to work... 'Memory'? What's that do? And some things I can't figure out 'Tree Options' ? Huh? A manual explaining some of the less obvious functions would be handy. Force Sunset: Grrrr. PLEASE fix! Oh, and the Force Sunset function really annoys me. Also, it would be REALLY sensible if it was labeled appropriately, better if it became a toggle... Force Sunset is quite annoying... _____________________

my favorite little debug toys...

I do actually keep my debug on the bar ALWAYS, and typically on a daily basis i have to use force sunset, remove the surface patch, if i'm playin in the air i have to close off the clouds, not to mention theres a few cute lil things that lower lag (or says a notecard i came across once hah).

disable mouse cursor in mouselook
02-26-2006 12:08
I sometimes use my stereo HMD for SL. The mouse cursor, being 2D, is distracting and causes eyestrain as it fights with the stereo 3D environment.

Mouse moves sun. If I need to do some work, I change it so that the sun is in the sky(brighter, easier to see objects).
Fireworks look better at night though. I occasionally turn off some of the types in order to improve performance. |

This particular 'Feedback' request has been in play for four months now and sparked a question... How much feedback constitutes a definitive answer? 20 posts? Feedback over a period of six months? It seems to me that these sorts of limitations of very general requests like this should be made in the original post. It would than also be nice to see the final findings appended here and some actual changes made to the way the interface works soon after.
Without these steps this type of post just creates the impression that LL only want to appear to be doing something to reconfigure the interface to suit the residents, without having to be tied down by pesky details like what they're going to do and how long it's going to take. Ultimately leaving a lot of the people that submitted their opinion feeling dissappointed and frustrated. My L$0.02 _____________________

My daily login consists first off by turning off Fog, Particles, Clouds. I leave fog off until my screen turns all yellow, then i must turn it back on. Ill occasionally turn off trees if my FPS goes too low, (which it has been doing since the last update). I'm still awaiting for the lindens to fix the bug where the screen turns yellow with the fog turned off. Does anyone know when this will be fixed?

Put It In Writing!
03-06-2006 08:26
I have seen a lot of good uses for the DeBug tool. I hope this thread stays here long enough for me to write down all the uses I have seen. If I can get time I will put these in a word file and provide to anyone who wants it.

I turn on and off ojects frequently. I do mostly so I can get at my human-avatar burried under the prims I wear. Reading a few of the first page, I think I'm going to be turning off trees and clouds--my FPS sucks most of the time (I'm happy if I have 15-20 and there's one place where I'm happy at 10-15 and annoyed if it's below 5 (the only special graphic I have enabled it shiney, draw distance of 96, everything turned WAY down)).
I've also used force sunset, and not even for modeling. |

Don't lose those features!

The enhance photo is essential for clothes making.
The FPS has been quite useful for me in getting my video card running I think the whole Debug menu is awesome and its one of those things that make me glad to be here. I'm new so I'll expect to use more in the future. |

FORCE SUN is now in WORLD menu (it actually makes more sense there, consistent with Estate sunphase slider).

I remove clouds at every log in, my land is at 150 metres, so they do get in the way.
I'd personally like to see an option alongside the new force sun menu to do this, would make it a lot easier to show people when they visit my land. I notice a few people around my area have little prims rezzed with info on how to turn clouds off for their visitors. Other than that, i haven't yet messed with any of the other features in debug, although seeing under land for lost prims sounds useful. |

Hit CTRL+Shift+Alt+D and it should show up in your top menu bar. Just curious - is there a reason the Debug menu isn't up on the top toolbar by default? This way of making it appear is like some sorta esoteric lore that's passed from avie to avie, and I'm sure there's many out there that never get that info.... I use Debug mostly when I need to find stuff I've managed to lose underground ![]() and Rendering to get rid of the silly fog default *sighs* (ty Tor btw for that hint!) I had been lost in the mist for WEEKS after that update way back when that defaulted fogginess... Why cant we just SEE the world clearly from the get go and switcheroo the fog thingy so if folks want to wander around in a haze they can toggle it if they wanna? Great on the new sun controls and new location tho! Awesome for taking pics ![]() _____________________

I seem to be having to use the Object-Object Occlusion all the time now because my system has decided to have it turned on all the time and when it is turned on all the time the Debug Console is useless because it is filled with messages everytime the object-object occlusion function does it occludy little thing.

Clouds
03-20-2006 16:06
I see that they moved force sun to the World menu, and I'd like to see disable clouds there as well. The land my partner and I reside at are in the mountains, so disabling clouds happens as soon as we log on, otherwise we can't see a thing.

When your project is figuring out SL's underlying mechanics, you find the debug menu to have many uses...
I typically run debug console to tell when I've lost connection to a sim (when mapping I didn't so much crash as just count how many times... and a lot of crashes have no notification other than some cryptic re-coloration of a UI element... or something not appearing) data on bandwidth and timers, various buffers (though most have been crippled from view in-client) fast UI is nice for my slower system's framerate, though wish I could turn off UI animation entirely, as that'd help speed up my client experience. Kelly, I'm glad you've started moving some more (first one was adding partcles to the beacon sub-menu) of the debug options into more accessable menus. |
