The main Debug Menu items I use are:

- High res snapshots (a must for photos for the M2)
- Force sunset (more like "Force SunRISE" if you ask me)
- Occasionally will turn off certain things such as clouds or particles

I would like to see something like ctrl+alt+1 that allows you to still interact, but I prefer keeping ctrl+Alt+1 to absolutely nothing visible, simply for filming, the less stuff I have to comp out in post the better.

sorry, this is neil not nephi

I use Rendering..Types...Trees, Clouds, Grass all the time (seems to help other things rez quicker...maybe it's just my imagination). I also often choose Particles (mostly when playing games where some particles can obstruct the view). I also occasionally use Force Sunset.

I'd love to see a lot of this stuff in the game Preferences, rather than on the Debug menu, so if we choose to use one of the "debug" features all the time, we don't have to turn it on/off every time we log on. I'd also love to have a reference somewhere as to what exactly everything on the Debug menu is (maybe it exists somewhere...i haven't found it). :)

High-rez Snapshots. Infact 9 out of 10 people I tell how to access the debug menu, I tell so they can take high-res snapshots. This coming from someone who has a place in Neualtenburg and have to constantly tell people about Rendering->Types->Clouds.

I turn off/on Rendering types alot, and move the sun around. Occasionaly I'll play around with other things, like Texture Console, but I really don't know enough about it to be useful. Also Test Load Avatar or whatever is really fun, :D

Can I ask that we be provided with a Debug Documentation file that gives us more insight on how to use things? Or what they do?

What does Show Updates actually DO? I can't seem to get anything to happen when I set or clear that one.

Force sunset and hide clouds. Dabble with the others some but those two there I couldn't live without!

What do I use? Hmm basically the whole enchlada! lol I can understand moving the force sunset and perhaps mouse moves sun to another menu so that newbies can use it easier but otherwise please please don't mess with it unless you want to add more. ;)

While we are on the subject, it would be nice if once you have forced the sunset (actually sunrise, always wondered about the choice of label) there was a way to resync with the sim. Currently there isn't and you have to relog to get back in sync with the rest of the world (unless there is a way I don't know about).

I use mouse moves sun, force sun up (or whatever it is), turn off different types of rendered objects, mostly alpha/active/texture edit highlights but occassionally trees, shiny, alpha, and basic prim types too. I also use the statistics display that shows framerate and the graph that shows what opperatinos are getting what timeslice. I also use show updates but it seems to be broken as of about 1.7.

If you're going to move some of these options to non-debug menus, can they possibly be persistant? it would be nice to be able to exit, and log back in and have clouds, and texture overlays still off, and maybe sunset still forced. of course then there would have to be an option to make the sun resume normal motion, but there should be anyway.

Every single time i login i hit: CTRL-ALT-=, CTRL-ALT-MINUS, and CTRL-ALT-6, to turn off CLOUDS, PARTICLES, and FOG. But sence the 1.7 update the dang Fog toggle debug feature just seams to turn the objects on my damn screen yellow. This has been reported to lindens and several lindens have even told me they witnessed it themselves. But isnt it funny how it hasnt been fixed yet?

Ive gotten to where i always turn off the clouds if im going to be moving around.
And now i am going to start turn off other things as well since so many say it really helps with FPS. I have the high res snapshots turned on.
ive dabbled in alot of the options and like to just see what they do.

Debug Permissions - This thing kicks ass.

How? It doesn't seem to be showing anything interesting.

For example, you have a prim that has mod/trans set for the next owner. You insert a no-trans script into the prim, making the whole thing no-trans for the next owner. But the extra fields from 'debug permissions' don't show that! They seem to just mirror the checkboxes ...

Oh and for Kelly, I use the sun functions, various renderings on/off, and show updates (until you broke it in 1.7 :-p). The lighttrace in useful for tracing objects with active lighthning, although it tends bork the client, even after you turn it off.

I use debug all the time to turn on daylight and to select which types render. I'm still figuring it all out, so I hope you'll keep it all.

I force daylight every day, and usually look at the statistics at least once a day. I turn off the UI often, use mouse-moves-sun maybe once or twice a month. I use other de-bug things less frequently but for fairly crucial things. Or, sometimes, just to remove some category of things from view for yuks.

I turn on "Show Collision Skeleton" for when i'm hacking about with the av skeleton and morph configs.

Force Sunset

Hide Selected
Helps when selecting many prims for linking. Much easier to tell what has not been linked, and pre-selected stuff doesn't get in the way.

Show Updates
Lets me what the activity of my scripts that modify an object. Good indicator on if a script of mine might have extra-lagging behavior to it. Seems to have broken with 1.7 though.

Hide Surface Patch
To get at prims that might be underground!

I use debug on a daily basis to remove fog and clouds. If I am looking at something will also use it to remove any trees or objects that might be in the way.
From: Kelly Linden
Many residents feel the Debug menu is essential for day to day operations. This is not optimal: there is a lot of clutter and confusion in Debug that shouldn't have to be waded through for those one or two features needed on a daily basis.

For example, I know I'm not the only one that makes regular use of 'Force Sunset' and it's related features.

If you almost always have the Debug menu open, why? What tools in the Debug menu are essential to your every day activities in Second Life?

Hm... this isn't quite a feature feedback... more of a 'Hotline to Residents' post. :)

Being a keyboard-only user as much as possible I hadn't even realized that Ctrl-Shift-1 had already migrated out of Debug :)

Trees; 'cause they're in my way.
Clouds; 'cause they're in my way.

Acutally the short list is Bump, Sky, Grass and Water... those are the *only* ones I **dont** ever turn on or off at some point.

Odd, for some reason I thought Fog (Ctrl-Alt-6) was gone from the menu but it's still there. Ah well Fog distance ratio at 4 is usually good enough.

Character Show Look At is occasionally useful.

Show Updates, Mouse moves Sun, Force Sunset, Light glows, Hide Selected, UI in snapshot, hi-rez snapshot, all of the HUD info options but especially Camera.

I really liked the Alt-R wireframe option we accidentally got a couple of previews back but someone mentioned an OpenGL proxy of sorts that lets you turn that back on.

Thanks for the Character Load Test tip Ushu, I found that one once while randomly clicking (in a crowd, ouch!) then promptly locked up but it was fun while it lasted :D

Show collision Skeleton is fun... may update this later after I play around with those again... some sadly dont seem to do what they say... like show attachment points... wish it did.

Well that's my main list. Before I go playing and lock up :D

I sometimes use Rendering Show Axes - it makes it easy to keep from getting lost and fly to where you want.
