From: Introvert Petunia I'd like simple building to work - as in like rez a prim and actually have it rez and not wind up with - nothing happening
- it half rezzing so that it is collidable but invisible, uneditable, and undeleteable
- the permissions on it changing spontaneously so that I don't own it anymore
- it declining to link to anything
- it declining to unlink from anything
- it refusing to accept a new texture
Sorry to hear that you've had these sort of problems. Can you please refer me to your bug reports describing them? I will pass the information along to QA and from there take the issue(s) to the development team. Please email as much information as possible to karen@lindenlab.com. If we can understand the problem, we can do something to solve it!

Introvert, you're in good hands. From: Maczter Oddfellow edit: and the shadow's HUD is way off on everything. you notice that, torley?
I didn't notice that with the HUD specifically but I did notice a texture offset problem after Francis Chung pointed it out and bug-reported it. Dominus Shadow = good rock for testing multiple problems.

I can see it being handy for photography, so yay. I have also tried to help noobs out of the darkness and having to get them to enable debug first is a pain in the arse, so yay again. THe Stupid Pet Trick was when they made the useless "editing appearance" text appear now. I think the pose pretty much lets everyone know what your up to. I can't see why a nanosecond of development time was put into that, but wtf do i know? The absurdity of it did made me chuckle, so I suppose that is something

From: Zapoteth Zaius And I don't see what Torleys done.. Would you prefer..
They've moved Force Sunset into view and added a couple options but it SUCKS. ITS BORING! Don't know why I'm even POSTING THIS! Get lost the lot of ya.. Heh. It'd be just what many here deserve, but thankfully, Torley (and, well, all other forum-Lindens also, but especially Torley) has a much cheerier attitude about things. I, for one, appreciate that. There's just too much negative energy around here. I rather like this menu-item change. Handy!

Please email as much information as possible to karen@lindenlab.com. If we can understand the problem, we can do something to solve it! I'm not quite how to say this politely, but I'll try. Surely you must be joking. I'll do my homework if you do your's first. I'll even do pony up some publically available posts on the subjects: - Spontaneous Unlinking
- Random permission changes
- Deleted objects from the ether
- Prims not rendering with snapshot confirmations from Torley Linden
- Graphics memory detection failure
And these were noted by SL veterans with easily a decade of SL experience between them. And this was a really quick search. Next, may I ask you to count all the bugs submitted by me (and my myriad alts) of "high quality" totally reproducible bugs that were either never addressed or were closed with a batch closure message of you submitted this bug but we never did look at it and have since released a new version so please check if it is still broken and resubmit it if it is Finally, if you would tell me how I could possibly submit a bug report for a set of partially rezzed prims that are collidable, counted against prim count, unselectable, display no object beacons, are invisible and undeleteable? These were finally cleared by having a liaison reboot the sim thus dumping the partially instantiated prims from the world. It is one thing to pretend that adding a menu for an existing feature is something really snazzy. It is a far more obnoxious thing to pretend that there aren't fundamental flaws affecting all players that you folks aren't aware of because I didn't submit a bug report on them. In the famous words of the cookie on the table in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland: "Eat Me". Oh, and I've already been flamed in open forum by The Phil himself (don't bother looking as it vanished in the last accidental forum history purge "oopsie", but he did apologize), so I'm rather inured to that if you find yourself so inclined.

From: Torley Linden I'd like to build on a few things here, which I've mentioned throughout history, and sometimes I fear I'm being redundant, but best to communicate now instead of making people dig for it: - Ceera, there isn't a way to "Restore default sun position" right now but if there's enough demand for it, possibly!
OK Torley dear, here's an example to support the need for that, to take back to the developers: I am building/designing something. For example, a Japanese bath house for a client. I use debug (now) or the new View menu (as proposed), to make it 'noon' for me, so I can see details clearly and take product snapshots. When I'm done, I get a call to RP with friends. But now I can't tell if it's night or day for them, because I subjectively have the sun stuck at Noon. My only option is to log off and back on again, to regain my 'sense of time'? Why? The sim knows what time it is. That is, it knows where the sun should be in the sky, and weather it's day or night. It should be trivial to stop my personal override of sun position, and experience SL like everyone around me is doing. Please consider this in making your change for the sun override options.

It looks like we can also add: - Unreliable positioning bars
to the list.

I agree with Torley's enthusiasm, however the option should be at the top of the view menu and not in a sub menu.
It's like they don't get it.

ok....

something was stated about promo video's mind u alot of the video's were actually made by resident its not trickery by Linden Labs it justs runs better for some people. in all honesty the trailer contest was held to pick out a new promo video from among residents... now really though this is a great new feature that is needed im sick of forcing sunset and havint sun come up only to have it not be able to go back to the other times of day i was at... frankly yes there are more important issues out there but this is a step towards more ease for everyone in general. Mind you we wont see any huge changes come to SL till relase of 2.0 but that was a given from the get go =P now the fact of the matter is Linden Labs is working very hard to keep Second Life running as best as they can constant updates etc. i'd swear they dont sleep how fast stuff gets done. there are worse things out there to be doing believe me and at least they are trying to do what needs to be done. sure people come here expect as smooth as a video but as any experience gamer is gunna tell you that this is never a case. games always tend to lapse in performance with people there. i run the game fine for myself and i dont have a godly computer or anything..... as stated by a linden to me in world you need a balance of a good computer and a decent internet connection. if you dont have a good net connection that may be a problem with ur performance here in second life. where i run fine and rarely lag cuz i have a great net connection and a decent computer u may lag with a good computer and POS net connection. just take some time to look more into SL and for the love of god if your complaining about lag in higher populated area's its a given lol. i mean look at WoW (world of warcraft) for those of u who play remember iron forge LOL (lag city). alot of people judge second life unfairly because they tend to compare it to other online games or services - SL does not run in the same manner as those games do it is not localized on your machine aside from a few things like tree's and plants. second life runs off set servers with 2-4 sims per server on a centralized system it is not local and connect to a database where u have stuff on ur machine so u dont have lag. to have the game run smoothly would change any freedom we see and/or require a mass amount of updates everytime stuff is added..... which would you prefer?

Thanks for the list of issues, Introvert!
I am asking our QA folks to take a look and make bugs for any of these that don't already exist in our database so that they may be addressed by developers.

I'd like to add a couple of things related to the original post:
1) Add force midnight. It will complete the list. It also lets people test the look of their builds at the darkest time of day.
2) Add my support for "Restore default sun position". Once done testing the look of builds at all times of day, it would be nice to return to normal without having to restart.

It would be also nice if we could "fool" the timer. Some folks like me use scripted lighting in their builds that automatically turns on during the SL nights..... Problem is, if you force a sunset, the SL time still thinks it's day and the lights don't turn on until "actual" SL night comes. Something new to look into! Also.. every Saturday I peek into SL from a friend's place (we do a LAN WoW party every weekend) and I notice that SL runs incredibly smoothly there. Generally, I'd have to say that some machines just are better with SL than others. Maybe it's random, maybe it's just luck.... but the computer I use at the friend's house could make a decent trailer even in the midst of the WA with 50+ avatars there.

I agree with Hugsy, the "midnight" and "restore" options would complete this feature.

Doesn't telling someone else to "eat me" constitute a personal attack? It seems a bit harsh.

It's great to have this feature finally added. Other than relogging, is there a way to force the sun back to where ever its 'supposed' to be? -Ghoti

From: Torley Linden REVERT TO REGION DEFAULT will restore da sun 4 ud00z whatz up!!! Awesome! And that rolls in with yesterday's update... Figures, the day I say something about it, they come out with an update with it. Next, I would like LL to end all war and bring peace on Earth. Might as well reach for the brass ring. Anyway, great stuff, the new sun controls! -Ghoti
