I'm amazed at the amout of enthusiasm you are able to summon about such trivial change like moving a menu item from one menu to another.
Also, how comes you can attach images to forum posts and I can't?

Cool, now we'll be able to see GreyLife® at noon ever so slightly more rapidly.

I think it's great, although I long ago memorized the key stroke to force sun. Still the ability to choose between Sunrise, Noon and Sunset is pretty kewl (and is more than just moving from one menu to another).

Certainly, it's amazing what a big difference a little change can do! Especially for all the new Resis who come on Live Help to ask, "Why is it so dark and how do I make it brighter?" This was definitely one of the most popular questions I'd ever heard inworld, and including the SL Forums too. Next thing ya know, there'll be a self-explanatory way to Partner from inworld too. That is some pretty serious simplicity! And the extra choices? Icing on the cake!

I'm not currently using the preview grid so I may have this wrong but... well, is it just me that's noticed from the screenshots here that the keystroke for forcing what is currently sunrise (mislabeled in the current Debug menu as sunset) has been 'fixed' and will now do the opposite of what you expect? The shortcut Ctrl-Shft-N will be used to force sunset from now on - and there's not currently a shortcut key assigned to the sunrise function, so you'll have to go through the menu's to do this in future. Well done for finally adding some of the missing options (force midnight being the only one still outstanding), but it looks like you've got half of this the wrong way around to me.

I made a mistake before, and I'm sorry--"Force Sunset" in 1.8's Debug menu is the correct wording. It simply looks misleading because of how Resis tend to use it when it's dark, thus making it look, from the observer's relative standpoint, like the sun is rising. However, the actual SL "time of day" (and an SL day is 4 hrs.) it sets it to is Sunset. This... has simply been moved, with the same keystroke. I can give no higher recommendation than to come and play in Preview Grid at your own leisure!

Yeah, I know it is your job to be Linden Cheerleader. No two people's experiences are the same, but during my time in Live Help, the most frequent question I received was something like: "Why does the performance of SL suck so badly compared to the promotional videos?". After spending much time helping them reduce their graphics quality to minimize the suckage, I would explain to them that the promotional videos were carefully crafted to make much use of preloaded scenes and consisted mostly of hardware pans and zooms and like a picture of a McDonald's Cheeseburger on a billboard, they would likely never see a real SL that looked like the promotional videos. They weren't too happy about that. Of course, fixing that would be some serious non-simplicity! Unfortunately, according to the Linden Lab Development Project Manager the list of "known issues" consists of trivia like the "serious simplicity!" that started this thread. I know that the performance will likely never be improved, but playing the trumpet about this junk is akin to making grand show of rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic, now with even more positionability! Why am I even bothering to post on the matter? Because it would be truly cool to see some performance increases, and I have no other way of even trying to make that happen.

Introvert says the cup is half empty.
Torley says the cup is half full.
I personally appreciate anything that is added to the cup.
Thanks!

This is good because I try to explain to new people how to make day, but it's currently a long task. FIRST enable the De-Bug menu ... and it's not easy for some. Things will be simpler to explain - and since my keyboarding is slow, that helps a lot.

From: Keiki Lemieux Does every thread need to turn nasty? Sheesh. I know what you mean.. Seriously guys, while this may be a trivial to some of you, it will make volenteers jobs A LOT easier to do. While it may not be the most frequently asked question, it is asked a heck of a lot of the time. And I don't see what Torleys done.. Would you prefer.. They've moved Force Sunset into view and added a couple options but it SUCKS. ITS BORING! Don't know why I'm even POSTING THIS! Get lost the lot of ya..

Girls. Do not make me bring out the paddle of chastisment. Torley was a 'cheerleader' LONG before becoming a Linden, and rarly (if ever) had a poor word to say about anyone. She cheers about what she LIKES. That level of friendly honesty actually makes me have some hope for the human race.... Until the rest begin in a sniping contest and make me want to turn the planet into one big glass parking lot. The backhanded snide remarks about her serve you well, if you're looking to alienate a whole lot of people. And here. Let me put in a smiley to soften my comments:

I'd like simple building to work - as in like rez a prim and actually have it rez and not wind up with - nothing happening
- it half rezzing so that it is collidable but invisible, uneditable, and undeleteable
- the permissions on it changing spontaneously so that I don't own it anymore
- it declining to link to anything
- it declining to unlink from anything
- it refusing to accept a new texture
But I guess I'll have to settle for a new sun menu option. YAY!Thanks for pointing out the errors in my expectations.

Yay! I keep debug on solely to have access to that sun control. It's so useful when building or when taking photos of the things I make.
Is there an equally easy way to "Restore default sun position"?

So, out of interest, does this change herald the begining of the end for the Debug menu? I tend to use the Debug > Rendering > Types menu an awful lot when building/scripting as well as tracking down lost objects. Also, while we're adding shortcuts for handy features to the wishlist any chance we could have a keyboard shortcut to toggle the Hide Selected option... that would be nifty!

I don't think so, as the debug menu has several options that remain handy, but not for everyday use - whereas forcing a time of day for screenshots, simply seeing what you're doign (since local lighting is not really functional), and so on is something most people who know how use. I'm not surprised Torley is happy, since (as mentioned on Torley's own blog) this was a feature she wanted for a long time; I imagine, like moving attachments, it's another "half the people go YAY!, the other half go BOO WHY HAVEN'T YOU FIXED STUFF *I* CARE ABOUT?!" kinda thing.

I'd like to build on a few things here, which I've mentioned throughout history, and sometimes I fear I'm being redundant, but best to communicate now instead of making people dig for it: - One of the reasons I love the beautiful sun in SL so much is that I can't enjoy it fully like most can in "real life", as I am photosensitive. A computer screen's gamma is limited compared to our actual, physical sun. I'm grateful for what I can get, and I do want more.
- Sorry Frans it isn't persistent! But I can see the joy in that.
- Ceera, there isn't a way to "Restore default sun position" right now but if there's enough demand for it, possibly!
- I take pleasure in simple things, but while I do so, it's never exclusive--usually inclusive. I'm a fan of saying, "But wait! There's more!" and shortly after taking that picture, I went for a ride in Francis Chung's Dominus Shadow, and it felt very smooth in 1.9.
- O yeah speaking of performance has TPing felt a lot faster to anyone in Preview 1.9 also? Attach tons of schtuff. I'm holding out to see what it's like in a crowded club under realistic conditions, but that's been nice! ALSO... it looks like watching people build is a lot smoother. I saw Resis adjusting cuts and twists in prims, and I could see each change. PLANAR TEXTURE MAPPING = VERYNICE! For all those who complained righteously about texture map distortions! And vehicles and FOLLOWCAM? Delish!
- Like a tone poem, 1.9 has a different "feel" to it. Some of the new additions are difficult to explain but easy to enjoy...
- A problem for me is like a solution to be born. I've been building more, and I can better relate to a number of building/rezzing bugs. I'm hopeful to see more of them fixed.
- For all the talk of me being a "cheerleader", it's amazing how my negative posts on the SL Forums (and there are a lot of critical ones, e.g. FOOT SHADOWS and SHOW AS OFFLINE) aren't brought up more. Why? I have no reason, but rippleshock has brought me here and my own ideas are a composite alloy of all that I've experienced here. I've learned tho, after a long day at work, the last thing someone wants to hear is me bitching at them about how much things suck--they already know that. So I emphasize the beauty. If you have seen my whole life, then you will have seen much depression and sadness before... and I grew tired of that. Onto a new life, a Second Life.

holy moses. i just popped back on the preview grid to check out the new sunset stuff and take my shadow for a spin as well and was able to do the most beautiful figure-8 donuts in the cordova sandbox. sim crossing are still for the birds and hitting bumps sent me into orbit more than once, but it's smooth wihtin one sim and on relatively flat terrain, so racing should be a blast. edit: and the shadow's HUD is way off on everything. you notice that, torley?
