Flapping, jointed wings and assorted additional, animated limbs (centaurs), nifty electronic worn gadgets that open/close, handguns that deploy (minigun with multiple, actually rotating barrels ?), retractable claws, hair and cloth flowing in the wind, animated pets on your shoulder, whole non-human, animated bodies (hail invisiprims), prim eyes that look in the right direction (should be already possible though), etc...

I'm sure I'm missing a lot.

I want a minigun with spinning barrels! I want a pumpings shotgun! I want an EIGHTBALL GUN!

As for 'useful' attachments I think a Reboot-style G-Unit would be nice.

Some1 can now do those Madonna pointy (conical) bras that can poke your eyes out, and have tassles on them that spin around and around.

Awesome news! My mind is racing with the possibilities. I think avatars will really become more lifelike with this.

Finally, we won't have to tell the newbies trying to make wings that "It can't be done".

LL has gotten a lot of people happy with them again with this feature.

I was in preview, and I saw someone standing in Cordova with a globe rotating around their head. After seeing it follow their head motions perfectly, I came to realize that the globe was, in fact, an attachment. Apparently, the Lindens never bothered to mention that 1.7 lets us use llSetPos(), llSetRot(), and llTargetOmega() to make attachments move.

Holy. Cow.

THANK YOU, Lindens!! You have no idea how long us avatar enthusiasts have been desiring this -- if you did, you would have told us about your new "secret feature", right? :p This will surely be a HUGE BOON to av creativity.

I decided to try a bit of tail enhancement on my av:

I sense another furry av revolution approaching.

Very nice work Beatfox! The tail looks GREAT!

Can't wait to see what things people come up with for this. It is great that we *finaly* can make use of the nice functions and don't have to use work-arounds. :D

Well, technically they could be moved using a shader program...

It appears to have been duplicated. >o_O<

The original thread is still in the General forum: /108/8e/60165/1.html

Ok, this is to funny... I accidentally found out about the new motion *because* of a bowtie I tried to make spin ages ago. Never bothered to take the script out, put on that AV in preview and boom... it spun. w00t!

Um, but just to point out much simpler solutions:

Beanie cap w/prop: I already built one of those in 1.6, just a texture anim using rotation(even turns on and off with walk.) (Never made it but the exact same thing would power a good bowtie.)

Swimming fishies in the boots: Already exist. Texture anim on a cylinder a-la Fleabite's old swimming fishies.

I've no idea how much, but anything that has to send an update to the client is going to be a slower method all 'round, Sim-side, Client-side, whatever. Texture anims are (or can be) permanent and once activated require no script intervention at all (my texture anim scripts always self-delete unless they turn on/off on command.)

Awesome tailswish Beatfox. Cannot wait to start experimenting more, once 1.7 is a little less crashalicious.

L8r,
UU

P.S. erm...as for Men's Bits... that's a bit like a light-saber isn't it? every Jedi should build his own.

P.P.S. hmmmm google-eyed glasse... ooh ooh has anyone tried hinges yet?

O... is it just me or do GIF animations play sped-up and faster in Firefox than IE? Beatbox is absolutely smooth here!

Glad you folks are amused by my tail action. :D  Wait, that didn't sound quite right...

BTW Upshaw, the rotation function I used was llTargetOmega(), which is client-side just like the texture anim function (i.e. no updating after the initial activation).

And yes, Torley, GIF anims do seem to play faster in Firefox. Yet another browser difference that web developers have to take into consideration.

Has anyone dug deeper into this? What are the limitations on llSetPos()? Do the coordinates change to be relative to the avatar's position, or are they still at the region/sim level? Is there a limit to how far an attachment can be SetPos'd from the avatar? And finally, do the physics functions like MoveToTarget and LookAt/RotLookAt work too?

Thanks,
Ziggy

They are still working out what the limits should be on these functions with regards to attachments.

Time to start learning how llSetPos(), llSetRot(), and llTargetOmega() work.

Arrrgh, I hope this doesn't involve algebra... :>

And not easy stuff either, I was attempting to get some non target omega rotation out of it and was having some difficulty, however I am not the sharpest pencil in the box so I am sure someone else can make it work :)

At any rate a very cool feature.
