Why is it on a grid banning the clothing of the Gestapo, advocating its tactics?

And before you say "it's none of your business", if you see someone lying on the side of the road in a pool of blood, do you stop or drive on by because whatever happened isn't anything to do with you either?

Broccoli

If it happened in SL, it has nothing to do with me so it's none of my buissness.

If it happened RL, then yes I would get involved.

Big colossal difference between SL and RL, and thats has been the whole driving point behind the "Outrage" but you're too blind to see it.

Again you're trying to equate SL with RL, and to me thats the real "scary" thing. People like you and Voodoo who can't seperate themselves from the fiction in SL are the ones who need the help, not us.

And for those who cannot seperate their SL from their RL, I have no words to describe how I feel about you, There is no word in the dictionary or thesaurus, Websters or otherwise, that describes how I feel.

Hm, what's the rate of kids that go hungry there, how's the school system, what's the unemployment rate... ;)

The school system is broke, the unemployment rate is through the roof and not sure about kids going hungry. The city that spent all the money trying to shut down the dirty book store is now broke too. But by god you are safe from casinos, drinking and dirty pictures.

Let's hear it for the morality police

Let's be fair here. It's all of Michigan that's gone downhill, not just GR. Wanna mention that liberal haven stinkhole of Detroit and all the abandoned houses there?

The liberal unions and the overtaxing non-business-friendly government policies ruined Michigan. The whole state is is wasteland now.

Annabelle = former Michigander who left after the liberals destroyed the economy. So yeah, maybe I'm a little defensive here.

Go to a psychiatrist and explain that you enjoy spending time in a virtual world where people can buy land, put their little house and furnish it, get married, date, spend money shopping for clothing that doesn't actually exist, go to imaginary nightclubs and dance and interact with other virtual people and that you have a job there selling stacks of lego-cubes to resemble a structure.

Depending on how you see or describe Second Life, being a part of it will very well make the majority of people who aren't involved with it wonder how mentally stable you are and why you're hiding out there instead of being a productive member of society.

not at all.. long before the days of computers even, never mind virtual game worlds, people engaged in mental fantasies, some very complex and sometimes roleplayed out in privacy with a partner ... it used to be called having 'a rich fantasy life' ;)

Haven't read all this (just got home). But wanted to say a couple of things.

First, I could look at kiddy sex as a cultural oddity, yes I could. I'd rather not. I prefer to look at it as, don't do it, no how, no where, and no time, unless you are in your real life bedroom with a real-life adult. And I think LL is right to ban it from SL.

But that's about it, except for hate speech, ethnic slurs, Nazi crapola, and the like.

Second, one of the reasons I haven't read all this thread is because I see it has become another political and religious argument, with denigrating comments about rednecks, religious people, Michiganders, and God knows who all else.

As I said in the other thread, this whole thing is all about money, corporations, and the mainstream.

The mainstream is what it is, always was what it was, and always will be what it will be, and always changing gradually over time, and this will always and ever be the way it works. Railing against religion or whatever scapegoats here won't ever change that. Tearing apart one another won't change that.

It is rather appalling to see how much intolerance people who consider themselves tolerant are to religious people, or even just people of a different political party.

It also is a sad thing that people would rather blame other residents and each other than put the blame where it solidly belongs: The Lindens. They did this, and they didn't do it for reasons of religion, intolerance, or anything of the sort.

They did it for legal and financial reasons, period.

I agree with their doing it, because I see how they felt they had to. What I disagree with is Daniel inviting residents to rat out each other. No wonder we get threads like this.

I am hoping (and fairly certain) it won't come to the terrible, repressive conditions some people are afraid it might, not to mention if some people get to AR'ing too enthusiastically, with Daniel's nodding approval.

But meanwhile, right now we have the unfortunate situation of seeing people's tearing each other, and each other's beliefs, apart in threads like these.

Reminds me of the Twilight Zone episode where all the couples were at a neighborhood party having a great time, then they heard over the radio that the bomb was coming. Only one couple had a fallout shelter. They all spent the half-hour ripping each other to shreds (all but one, I believe), and blaming each other for everything.

Afterwards, the friendships were never the same again.

Oh well. Can't be helped, I suppose.

Here is a thought... Step away from the computer and get a real life date!

15 years ago I might have argued the same way as you. I wish I'd still be your age, when the world was so easy to understand because everything was black and white without any shades of grey, not to speak of blue or green. But one gets older, a little wiser and, alas, not healthier.

There are lots of people in SL who suffer from things like SAD (social anxiety syndrome), are bound to a wheelchair or otherwise handicapped. It's not that easy for everyone to stand up, walk out of the house, meet, marry and multiply. The only way for these people to live their sexuality are online environments like SL. I really wish you'll never get into a similar situation, even if it would teach you to be a tad more tolerant.

Oh yes, it was personal meant in the direction of Voodoo... although I consider calling someone a forum troll is not really a personal attack.
Reread Voodoo's first message which he deleted, but was luckily quoted by many and then tell me more about personal attacks..... attacks on things people like, but he not... and some more other attacks.... And this is not the first thread that happened.

Morwen.

Thanks for clearing it up Morwen, I didn't see the first unedited post. Makes sense now.

Indeed, whereas I think George Bush is the worst thing to happen to the Western world since Margaret Thatcher, I fully support people's right to support him, as I did her, even if I do consider her to be on a par with the wicked witch of the west. Being tolerant means accepting that others have a different view.

Financial reasons I'll buy, legal reasons I don't buy. RP'ing isn't illegal, graphic violence isn't illegal, this is an 18+ arena. I doubt whether the makers of the upcoming Age of Conan (which might very well tempt me away from world of warcraft) will be changing the graphic violence that's going to appear in that, limbs being chopped off, very graphic violence and no legal reason for it not to happen. I also doubt I'll have to provide them with my passport number to sign up.

Daniel's blog was both insulting and badly timed. The livejournal debacle had just got into full swing, many of us here have livejournal accounts, Daniel's message seemed to be of the same ilk. Daniel really should be kept away from the blog, the fact that so many updates have been produced since then suggests that someone at LL believes that Daniel's blog should be buried. I've only been here a short time but I've never witnessed that many updates in one day.

There are all types of private/membership clubs and swinger homes all over the world. Some you might pass daily and not even suspect the building is a private club or swinger's residence. And if you do know about such places do you stop and try and peek in the windows? No! You simply drive on by minding your own business. But that's real life.

Here in SL it's not as easy. People can pan their camera in your home or club with out any respect or regard for your privacy, and in a lot of cases just drop right in unannounced or invited. Last I heard a "peeping tom" was an offensive illegal act, an invasion of privacy and also trespassing.

These soon to be "peeping toms" have no grounds to stand on if they think they can just fly around camera peeking into every single residence, club or sky box they want to taking paparazzi snapshots and to think they did a good deed by making SL "safer".

They were not physically invited into our bedroom, our dungeon or whatever we have set up for our pursuit of happiness here in SL. Are we to lose everything because some "peeping tom" several hundred meters away spotted me being a human toilet for my husband, or us role playing rape with pose balls that we've bought specifically for all that? It's our dam house! No resident should be allowed to judge us or judge our form of sexual activity on our land based on their beliefs or what they witnessed by paparazzi
camera invasion, and run off and tattle tale to LL about our bedroom activity.

Just because it's simple enough to do doesn't make it right either. In fact it's very disrespectful and illegal. We can only safe guard our privacy to an certain extent and what privacy measures we do take should be respected. We are adults right? =/

Just fly on by and keep your nosey cameras off our @$$s

This is the one comment made in responding to my post that I can really respect. I do respect what you said here so as for my comment about getting a real date, I will retract that comment. Your right. I am a big enough person to say when I am wrong. As for the rest... It still stands.

I am a furry Voodoo and I really resent your insinuating that because I choose to depict myself as an anthropormorph rather than a 7' tall, tattooed, muscled out movie star type (like so many male avs are in SL) that there is something wrong with me. I'm quite normal thank you. I just chose to depict myself as a fantasy character. It's called imagination. This whole world is supposed to be about that right?

You can applaud LL's recent decisions, that's your opinion and your right. I disagree with that decision for reasons stated in other posts I've made. But why the need to put furries or any other group you don't like (and undoubtably have no understanding of) in the same stead as pedophiles, rapists, etc?

Here's something you might want to consider, taken from the Oxford American Dictionary:

tolerance, noun: the ability or willingness to tolerate something, in particular the existence of opinions or behavior that one does not necessarily agree with.

I find your bigotry and hatred deeply and broadly offensive. Perhaps I'll shoot off an AR to LL and try to get you banned...oh wait, that would be intolerant wouldn't it? ;)

Edited and direct to the Lindens....

Lindens just please note that not everyone in SL thinks the way that some have expressed themselves on this forum. I for one support your new statement and in fact apluad you. Please keep up the great work and keep cleanning SL up. You have mine and many others support.

It seems that YOU don't even think the way YOU had expressed yourself in the forum, otherwise why would you need to constantly edit and eventually remove your own comments? How can others pledge their support, when they can't even read what they are supporting?

Of course, it it it directed to the Lindens, why post it here? It's the last place to put it if you want a Linden to see it!!

What is amusing to me with this whole deal is, Linden Labs does NOTHING about the vast majority of Abuse Reports right now.
And people think they are going to have the manpower/time/inclination to perform the role of Thought Police? Yeah right.
This is going to increase the number of Abuse Reports ten to fifteen times what are generated now. What it will come to is, you will have show up at the Governor Linden's mansion, do something reportable, and have 15 people there that see it willing to report you.

Anything less will be circular filed.
