First of all, I support anyone who wants to be able to enjoy second life without having sex or violence thown in their faces. Lets just say I am extremely open minded as to what should be permitted, but there's no reason that it should be up to the public to simply look the other way, and I'm all for cleaning up the public areas of second life.

Likewise, secondlife is linden lab's baby, and they can do whatever the hell they please with it, and all this talk of lawsuits is rather silly. LL can require avatars to appear as 50 year old white male pilgrims from the year 1650 if they so desire.

The outrage here is the new rules will cover a wide range of activities, and will then be selectivly enforced.

Barring outright criminal activity, LL should not be imposing their moral views on others, at least not of they want SL to be the 3D internet. If you feel otherwise, I'll make the following suggestion. You write any changes to the new restrictions, then let it be enforced by the people here whom you disagree with.

Go to a psychiatrist and explain that you enjoy spending time in a virtual world where people can buy land, put their little house and furnish it, get married, date, spend money shopping for clothing that doesn't actually exist, go to imaginary nightclubs and dance and interact with other virtual people and that you have a job there selling stacks of lego-cubes to resemble a structure.

Depending on how you see or describe Second Life, being a part of it will very well make the majority of people who aren't involved with it wonder how mentally stable you are and why you're hiding out there instead of being a productive member of society.

Do you mean the classical liberalism of the Founding Fathers? Or the controlling, nanny statism of today's so called liberals?

But if you are really honest with yourself, you will say that in today's America, liberal and conservative no longer have any meaning. Today's liberals and conservatives are just different sides of the same tyrannical coin.

My definition of "mental issues" would include people who impose their own ideals on others.

Protecting children is a good thing. Dealing promptly and definatively with those who portray "kiddy porn" is a proper thing to do.

Telling anyone how to act, when that act does not impact anyone else? That's sick.

And as I've said before; If you don't like seeing the sex in SL, then please, STOP LOOKING FOR IT!. I can go anywhere in SL, do anything, and unless I SEARCH for the sex stuff, I don't just blindly stumble across it.

It makes me wonder what all these "moral" people are Searching for when all they find is sex.

Contrary to what you might believe, evangelical, chaste Christians do not have a lock on morality; they also have not cornered the market on ethics.

Morals, despite your personal beliefs, are not set in stone. There are plenty of people raised under moral codes you might find objectionable that still qualify as moral codes. Your particular faith is not necessarily the rule, though it is one of the most common on earth.

Some of those people also have moral codes against causing knowing harm, about addressing harm caused; against thievery and non-consensual acts - and against lies and deceit.
