My guess is that Archie's local bank either saw a bunch of transactions or a few large transactions and wanted to verify that these were legit. Nothing more.

It happens every now and then when I use PayPal, especially when ordering internationally. No big deal. "Why yes, I did order from ___." "OK, thank you." "You're welcome. Good bye."

But that Potential sets LL up for further investigations - or even more likely =/ more Fox news stories.
 could you imagine Philip up against O'Reilly? if a Fox news scandal ever happens, I'm thinking they should send Jeska in. =D

O'Reilly would have tried and convicted Phil before the interview ever started - Just like always.

Same with Hannedy

If either of them would actually have an open mind they would be 10x better at there supposed job.

But maybe lose ratings.

Who is responsible for not telling residents using Mastercard, even when the card was refused and why did I have to find out like that?

Question: should Linden labs have informed me before or when I tried to use my Mastercard?

Archie Lukas

Answer: No, Linden labs isnt responsible for informing you that your bank is looking out for your well being.

The guys bank had a red flag go up for whatever reason. They notify him of a potential problem. This is where he should say, " Its ok Mr. Bank, I wish to do business with SL". Thats it. Mastercard will be happy to let you use your card to subscribe to a porn site if this is what you wish to authorise. If your credit card issuer refuses to let you spend your money where you want to, well..what a lousy bank. As for the wife and kids thinkin your a perv for playing SL, dunno where they got that idea. Maybe they know you better than we do.

[...] Interesting trivia.. out of the four pages of posts I waded through in which Sunspot posted.. 75% or more of them were "calling the other poster a troll" or complaining about people complaining about people complaining.. ad nauseum.

(click her name, then click on "show all posts by....";)

You're fabricating.

In fact, I just did an advanced search with my name in the name field and "troll" in the keyword field and... ummm, out of 306 posts I've made here, I used "troll" in four threads, this one and three others where I referenced another person's use of the term. That's hummm... oh like... in about .0098% of my posts.

/invalid_link.html

I don't throw the term around as you'd have people believe, and I only use it in obvious cases of trolling - i.e. when people make posts that are soley intended to ridicule and elicit a response. Don't let the facts stop you from your attempt at trying to rewrite history for your own purposes though.

Funnily enough, when I tried to reply to your haranguing PM, in which you claim to have muted me, a minute ago, it went through and didn't say "This user has you on ignore."

You gotta love the drama of public announcements of muting someone.

Anyway, please really mute me, for your own sake.

My mastercard worked as of Friday afternoon.

Maybe I should make a poll asking if you should've made five threads and a poll about this subject that apparently only affected you.

I'll have to go with the family member on this one. I think he might be a pervert.

There may be some truth to this. I have 2 transactions from 5/2 and 2 from 5/4 which are still listed as "Pending Authorizations" on my credit card's website. I have never seen anything pending like this. It is a Mastercard issued by a major US bank. If it's still there in the morning, I'm going to call my bank and see what they say.

*ignores all the fighting*

Last saturday I bought L$ with my Mastercard, there was no problem for me. After some seconds the wellknown "pling" told I could spend L$ again.

If your credit card is being billed for a lot of few amounts, this is no surprise if your bank get uneasy about that...

Don't forget something, banks prefer you not to use their payment methods, as their treatments costs money to them.

Saturday I used a bank credit card to increase my credit by $5,000 and naturally the bank flagged the transaction as possible fraud and it didn't go through. I simply called the bank fraud division and informed them what I was trying to do and after a series of security questions to verify that it was actually me they cleared the transaction and it went throught the very next time I applied. Linden Labs had nothing to do with this nor did the credit card company, it was the bank fraud division that flagged the transaction and I expect them to watch my back like that. If you know what you are doing it is rather simple really.

Nifty, I'd want a photo of my own avatar on my card tho.

As for the OP..... if you're having problems with your mastercard, phone up your issuing bank right away.

My other concern is that this might be a new form of phishing to see who has what sort of CC in order to attach names to stolen credit cards or as a way of targetting accounts for hacking. If money laundering is as rife as some people suggest, then we're going to see all sorts of 'inventive' ways to extract information out of residents who have 'valid' payment info / CC's / whatever. As a result I will only discuss account financial and/or billing issues in the most general of terms on this forum and recommend that others do so as well.

To the OP, Archie Lukas: phone your bank *and* LL. Yes, they really do answer the phones, Madge. Patience is a virtue. So you have a temporary glitch holding you back from throwing some money into SL? Consider it a 'cooling-off period'. SL will still be here tomorrow and the year after. So will your bank. So will your family.

As for your wife thinking SL is a pr0n site, why not set her up with a free account and take her on a guided tour of the sights of SL and show her the creativity that abounds here? Surely that would set her mind at rest.

Also a UK Mastercard holder
05-07-2007 01:45
I'm in the UK and use Mastercard. Last month's statement showed about 7 transactions - all but one were for LL (/me vows to cut my SL spending in the future).

Last week, when I tried to buy a collar and lead for my dog from a US online store, my card was declined. I immediately rang the issuer (Virgin/MBNA) who told me that the transaction was flagged as potentially fraudulent. They refused to tell me why, saying they were unable to give out any information on the criteria used to determine what may or may not be fraud. They also told me I would shortly receive a letter. I cleared the matter up there and then and the transaction went through.

Archie, as I pay my tier with my Mastercard and I don't suddenly want to find myself landless, on reading your post, I did a test buy of 2000L on the website. It went through without a hitch and I received the usual confirmation by email.

LL can't help you with this - you need to contact the card issuer again.

Same problem for me using Mastercard in the UK. The credit card company flagged the (very small) transactions to LL as being potentially fraudulent. First thing I knew about it was when I tried to buy L$'s in-world yesterday and got a message saying there was a problem with my payment status.

Just gave my credit card company a call and confirmed that these charges are ok and they've said they will let them go through and reactivate my card.

Their action was just a precautionary measure because they were concerned that lots of little charges to LL may be someone else using my card fraudulently. So I'm quite happy they checked with me! However it might have been better if they'd called me BEFORE blocking my card lol.

Just wanted to clarify....many UK banks are now open 7 days a week. The OP is not lying saying that his credit card company called him on a Sunday.

I'd also like to thank the OP for posting! Without this thread I would have thought it was just a bug with my a/c and I'd have probably spent a while trying to get through to LL Billing, when in fact one call to my credit card company sorted it all out. Thank u :)

The bank may be closed, but I'm pretty sure some banks' fraud prevention divisions work around the clock.

I've been called at 3am in the morning, less than 5 minutes after making a charge, asking whether I had just made a transaction because it was flagged as possibly fraudulent and if I wanted to cancel it.

If only the Original Poster had had the level headedness you displayed here. But then again it would have been far less entertaining a read.....

i think the problem is that instead of simply pointing out their own mastercard works, instead they are 'calling out' and 'calling bullshit' and suggesting the guy is a liar.
its not rocket science dear.

Honestly, I have to laugh at how mad you are at everyone else who has posted in reply to your post disagreeing with you on this. Many people use mastercard. Your responding with name calling and insults isnt really convincing people to believe ya.
