Reporting is not griefing; surrounding the dude, without getting permission first, is. You do not require a team of people to file an abuse report. [...]
The more abuse reports, the more likely action will be taken. Trust me, I have experimented with this. See the bottom of the post for an explination of "surrounding the dude".

/Who/ are you getting permission from before you do anything other than watch them? If it is anyone other than the person you are watch or a Linden you are getting it from the wrong person. If you are actually getting it from the target first, excellent, but then you are just roleplaying and you might want to reconsider filing an abuse report.
SL was made for different reasons... some to have fun, some to make a living, etc... SLPD is no different. We love to have fun, some people like to be in to get a small taste of the police world (I have gotten some reports from SLPD retirees that they actually joined a RL PD because they loved the law enforcement business so much... he is reccommending all of his police buddies to join... therefore more members for SL... is that stressful on Lindens? And he owes it all to SLPD. Therefore, SLPD actually gave someone a real life job, of which he makes a living.) Anyways, we only get permission to do "anything else" by the suspect, never anyone else (so that we can keep a good standing by means of the TOS). Even though after this point it is considered RPing, before it nothing was RP. Is griefing roleplaying? I suppose so, in your point of view. But abuse reporting? I don't think so. Sorry, you lose.

It is not wrong to call a Linden if you are feeling harassed but it is often overkill when, most times, you can easily just sit on something and ignore them until they get bored and wander off. There is no reason for your group to ever get involved; extra people abuse reporting just makes extra work for the Lindens and if they are hotheads it likely more people will be griefing.
You're really getting on my nerves. Maybe we should ask a Linden about what they like better: more paperwork to deal with, less griefers to waste time on OR less paperwork to deal with, but more time wasted on reprimanding griefers while they are trying to play SL. Hmm? If I was a Linden, I would rather get a bit more paperwork so that I can prove that the suspect is a griefer, then reprimand him/her. Simple. I would not like to have to get called over repeatedly just because some guy is rezzing slot machines like hell in a sandbox, or is bombing a sim. I would rather spend time with friends, socialize... etc. But I don't know how Lindens spend their time in SL, so please don't quote me on that.
Below is a little sample of a routine call:
IM: Victim: Hello?
IM: Me: Hi, what do you need?
IM: Victim: I have someone shooting people on my land and I would like you to come over and see if you can stop him.
IM: Me: OK, do you have any idea who it is?
IM: Victim: Yes, it's [name].
IM: Me: Thank you. Does he have anyone helping him?
IM: Victim: Yeah, he is TPing his friends. Please help, the sim is starting to crash!
IM: Me: OK, I will send in my SWAT team. Can you give me a TP?
IM: Victim: OK, hold on...
Victim sends a TP.
I TP to the scene.
Me: Is this your land?
Victim: Yes
I TP the SWAT team over.
Me: OK, we have a griefer named [name] TPing buddies and shooting. I need a full out scan along with a profile check of everyone in the sim. If any weapons are out, get the names.
SWAT Team: (everyone) k
Me: And, as always, no retaliation. Use the radios from here on out. Keep your cover, we don't want him to know we're here until I give the signal.
Radio: SWAT Team: lets go!
Me: OK [victim name], everything should be controlled soon. Stay here, I'll be back.
I fly away and open my minimap.
Radio: Me: Anything yet?
Radio: SWAT Team lists some names.
Radio: Me: OK, keep searching.
Radio: Me: Any updates?
Radio: SWAT Team: we got them all in view, at least 1 swat per person, there are a total of 4 people. permission to end stealth?
Radio: Me: I will shout the signal, then you come out. If any shooting occurs toward you do an AR and tell me.
Radio: SWAT Team: all right
Me shouts: ATTENTION: Your griefing actions have been reported and you are now being watched. Any more shooting will result in a Linden appearance. Stop griefing immediately and everything will be good.
[suspect name] shouts: oh no, the s*** police!
Me shouts: One more degrading word and a Linden will be appearing above you.
[suspect name] shouts: if youve got us in sight then prove it!
Radio: Me: Everyone show themselves to the victim in sight.
SWAT Team reveals themselves.
[suspect name] shouts: OK OK you got us, dont shoot!
Radio: Me: NO SHOOTING!
I fly back to the victim.
Victim: Nice work.
Me: It's not over yet. Follow me.
I fly over to a clock tower.
Radio: Me: Everyone escort your suspect to the clock tower.
Everyone arrives to the clock tower and tells their story.
Me: OK, well, I'm sorry, but we'll have to AR you. If you would like, you may spend time in our jail instead.
[suspect name]: nah i dont have time 4 jail
Me: All right, please hold on...
Radio: Me: Report everyone (except [victim name]).
Everyone reports the suspects.
Me: OK, you're free to go. Please don't let this happen again.
[suspect name]: all right. come on guys, lets go back to the base
Suspects leave.
Victim: Wow, that was easy...
Me: Nah, it's nothing. OK well we've got to go, play it safe.
Victim: I will, officers

Me: Cya!
Radio: Me: Everyone back to the station.
Everyone arrives at the station.
Me: OK, that wasn't so bad now, was it?
SWAT Team: nah
Me: I need [one of the SWAT members] to file seperate reports for me on each suspect, I will put them in the archives. OK?
[SWAT member]: Yes, sir.
Me: Chill out, this isn't boot camp...
SWAT member makes a report, I put it in our archives.
Me: Good work, men. Everyone is dismissed.
Everyone leaves.
I send the reports to a CSI detective, he cleans it up and reports to Lindens. CASE CLOSED.
Hopefully that will clear up what we do.
