Notice to All SLPD Members

Addressed privately in-world. If anyone else has any issues whatsoever with one of our group members, please contact either myself, Jimmy Bishop, or Peter Nelson with the names of the officers and chat logs, if available. We're trying to run a respectable group, and we won't tolerate griefers or troublemakers in our ranks.

Madddyyy: By real-world standards, a police force requires a government to exist, true. In SL, where a government is all but absent from a user standpoint, we exist based on our reputation. Which is why I want people to let us know if they experience offensive behaviour from our officers, we can't afford to let griefers run rampant inside our group. Thus far, we haven't really had time to offend anyone that I'm aware of, and we want things to stay that way.

Jonas: The vigilante griefers are the people we're trying to distance ourselves from, and who we don't want involved with our group. If you ever have a problem with one of our members on your property, please send the details of the incident to myself or one of the officers I named above, and we'll take care of it on our end.

Yup, I've had similar occurrences on the odd occassion.

If I had a USD for every time I've gotten "This guy says I have to pay him 100$l or he'll ban me, he's a police officer - do I have to pay him?" or something similar in live help, I could damn near afford a Starax wand just from that.

I just laugh at them, and tell them as the devil, I'm above their petty mortal concerns.

SLPD going after greifers = vigilantes.

It doesn't have to be on my property. I will report you or your members to LL if I see them violating the TOS. I will make no mention of it to you rather let the REAL authority handle it.

And to those of you who are getting fined by police officers, we are getting a small opposition, the SLMPD. If you see an officer with the SLMPD tag on, PLEASE be warned that these people may fine you and possibly arrest you and take them to their cheap station. The SLMPD has absolutely NO alliance with SLPD, the founder of SLMPD was originally a rebellious officer in the SLPD who we ejected (much like the Shawn Goodliffe fiasco that some of you remember). The SLPD will NEVER fine anyone, if you see a parking ticket these are just for fun, don't pay them (we are trying to stop our members from using them).
Alaz, please realize that the people begging for your money are either members of the old SLPD or members of the SLMPD.

Posts are not going to get deleted, even if it does get locked. It is quite possible that it will just end up in off-topic.

I think the problem with people roleplaying police/governments/any authority figure is that to be interesting you have to deal with people who are not roleplaying. People not roleplaying often find being placed in a subservient role to be somewhat insulting.

You are clearly seeing that play out here.

prak, you'd be suprised... we actually do deal with non-roleplaying people (griefers), and when was the last time you actually read my posts? WE DON'T DO ANYTHING EXCEPT SURROUND THE DUDE SO HE CAN'T GO ANYWHERE. Geez, it's not that hard to understand. How many times do I have to say it??? Oh well. And, as always, after we deal with the griefer we always IM him about the issue, and we ask if he was offended in any way, and he almost always says that it was actuallly pretty fun because of the realism of the police getting the bad guy. So, therefore, most griefers get what they deserve and, somehow, have fun doing it (therefore aren't offended).

How do you know that the dude who called you wasn't the one who actually started the trouble?

You are currently dealing with non-roleplaying people in this very thread. How is that working out for you?

He can't go anywhere unless, of course, he teleports a few meters over or just sits on something. Yes. Very useful. For someone who has no wish to have this done to them you are now harassing him. Well done! You can claim that they are a griefer and that they had it coming until you are blue in the face but it is not for you to decide. Griefing griefers does not make you a just person. It makes you a griefer. Perhaps a more limited one, but still just a griefer.


I am unclear how they both have fun and get punished. Is this like grounding a child to the room with the television and allowing them to invite friends over?

If you want to roleplay cops, fine, do it with people who want to roleplay robbers. (Which means you get consent /before/ you do anything, not after.) And don't play resmod outside of your own forum.

This is a excellent point, the SLPD might be even encouraging Griefers to grief in the hopes they show up to play with.

I REALLY can't take this anymore; you all are just firing insults with nothing to back them up. If you all want to get all pissy about us, fine with me.

Prak, you can pretty much go to hell because of 3 reasons:
1.) You can't be a griefer if you are reporting the guy... if reporting = griefing then I would be banned 10 times over now (and reporting would be considered bad... which it isn't).
2.) We recently imprisoned [name removed] for griefing in non-combat areas, verbally abusing players, and attacking our station, which is a non-combat zone WITH HIS PERMISSION. If he didn't like the experience, he would have simply TPed somewhere else. BUT HE DIDN'T. We allowed him to have visitors, and opened the door to do so, he never snuck out. He didn't even use the block hack. Even when he crashed he came back and turned himself in (spawn at home was selected). After a few hours we let him go, and we chatted about it. He said that the experience was enjoyable due to the realism, which is pretty hard to find in SL. He also said that he felt like he deserved being put in "jail" for a while (2 or 3 hours is nothing), and he was sorry and he said he would never grief again. From that point on we never got a single report of him griefing. Even a few days later he asked if he could join the SLPD, unfortunately due to anti-spy rules we could not let him in for 1 month after the last incident is filed.

We always get permission before we do anything other than watch the guy and make sure he doesn't cut loose. How is it harassment to call over a Linden and get everyone to tell him/her what happened? Oh, I forgot, you don't think that shooting people and verbal abuse are forms of harassment. Sorry, my bad for incorrectly understanding your definition of the word "harassment".

Frans, I assure you that we make no contact with anyone asking them to grief. We don't want to just play, we actually mean business (please don't take this literally, read the last 20 posts to figure out what i mean). Of course, sometimes we accept RP requests just so that we can either get practice or lighten up.

Lucifer, your post is the only one that amuses me, snaps for you. Actually, sometimes we have pizza parties at the station, sometimes when there are a lot of people we will actually distribute coffee and donuts too .

Kyushu, actually we get these kinds of calls all the time, where the griefer calls in and tries to frame the suspect. In all cases we monitor both suspects and try to get as much info as we can... chat logs, testimony, PVP, etc... and then we send it off to a lieutenant or SLPD - CSI member to find out the griefer. Once we find the guy, we either simply report the offender and, sometimes, make a stakeout or a SWAT call.

I've never dealt with SLPD (never heard of it before this thread) but anything involving roleplaying an enforcer of rules in any MMO, without some kind of explicit consent of the Company, runs uncomfortably close to "impersonating staff." This is an issue in every online multiplayer I've experienced (quite a few) and if it gets out of hand it can be associated with everything from harmless pranks to account phishing.

Regardless of noble intent, with no real authority than any other resident of SL, there's going to be people who think it was a fun idea and play along (your interesting story of your jailbird) or that say "meh" and keep going, and some who will be unfavorable to the whole idea.

I have no issue with the idea of a roleplay police force, but it sounds like you don't understand why someone might have issue with it...hence this post. Reasonable people are going to disagree on this.
