Just one quick note: those L$ on my account have one function. They are not there for leaderboard or game score. I could not care less ;-) But with small margins that I try operate in land business the right timing of converting my L$ back to real world currency has become important factor too. So in best interest of my customers I sell when I believe the market price correctly reflects the balance between money supply and money sinks :-)

I'm curious Anshe - do you do anything to make a profit - or are all your efforts in the best interest of your customers?

Thanks

Kinda harsh post there Merwan.

Yes, there are people in SL who probably make a lot more money than Anshe, I am sure of it. Mostly because I know some who have low overheads, unlike Anshe.

Anyway, people making a legitemate buck in SL without screwing other people or rules (ala, IGE) is good for us all. Shows SL is a mature, interesting game.. no.. maybe not a game, a world :)

I assume Anshe has so much money in L$ because she buys land by the sim at auctions in US$ and then sells or rents it in-game mostly for L$. She's got to repatriate some of that money to balance the books at some point.

Does anyone else think LL should pay interest in the form of stipend bonusses? You know, given that they apparently care so much about the economics of SL matching those of the real world..

I believe that free market rewards those activity that generate most value. This means if I can create value for customer I ultimately profit myself. Making correct prediction about currency market and doing the right decision thus helps both myself and my customers.

I don't believe in being capitalist predator where one tries to profit by eating somebody else's food from the table.

Move aside Egg! I'm First in line.

Wait, my wife just told me to set the table and pour the wine.

Alas! Another time perhaps Anshe.

"Even most mentally slow person can find something to do. If you have brain that goes as fast as one bicycle after crash test with highway truck - you can make up! You are slow thinker you can become loyal and reliable helper for fast thinker. Because most of fast thinkers have problem of getting bored or busy too quick. But some place in SL can use somebody do regular things maybe for months."

It does make me regret the couple hundred dollars I paid to buy my account, yes.

Awwww..are you one of the feted that got one of those charter/special/whatsis accounts where you could pay up front, and secure yourself a tier-free 4096 for life? No wonder you're whining about Anshe lol. What a deal! Geez, what a deal!!!!

Go Anshe lol. I think it's only about $44,000 however. And any shrewd business person would wait for the Linden to go back up to say, $4.50 or something, if it was once at that level, I don't know, before "repatriating" their dollars LOL.

The only thing wrong with Anshe, who rocks and rules, is that she doesn't have enough competition by people who work even a tenth as hard as she does LOL.

Sometimes making a profit is in the best interest of customers. I know that concept will blow the minds of those who would like to teach the world to sing, buy everyone a coke and have all of our armies wearing blue helmets.

I'd love to know what her margins are but when you look at the overall market, Anshe is only one of a few who are consistent in their pricing (re. land). If she can remain consistent and turn a profit, more power to her and better for the overall economy.

I'd be curious to ask you the same question you asked Anshe, Merwan. That is if you do something productive for the economy.

If I do something productive for the economy? *wondering

Do a search in the archives Bruno - I've been involved in both the SL economic development as well as service ventures.

Anshe, I am arguing the theoretical with you, not making a point about what you do (I am not one who gets offended by your activities... at least those i've seen LOL ). My only point is that the free market does not reward *soley* based on value.

Markets will reward based on capital, because certain things can be accomplished by those who have capital that cannot be accomplished by those without (such as buying large blocks of land and selling small blocks of land). If a service brings efficiencies to a market (which is why middlemen exist in many industries -- distributors/aggregators/marketers serve a needed function), then the market will reward. But who gets to provide that service is often dictated by capital. If the market does not need or want the service, that capital will go down the drain of course.

In inefficient markets (which is all markets, really) those who have better access to information will also get an advantage.

Sometimes people just guess right (like Soros and his British pound currency bets)

I am not saying that markets should be fair. Markets (at least those with anti-trust regulatory watchguards) reward people who are smarter, more flexible, more perceptive, or simply more lucky! But a big market, a good market, will have room for many players and many niches and many roles.

Yes, Prokofy, some of us paid for those lifetime accounts. And we control all of Second Life! What are our goals, you ask? Well, umm, pecan pie... And we'll do anything to get it! :-)

yes merwan, you have also been very productive at figuring out wonderful ways to siphon money from the game. 10% for transactions. personally i think it was brilliant and wish i had the knowledge to create something like that. it was a win win for you, sellers and buyers.

but comparing your contribution to anshe is ridiculous. the entire grid of casual land buyers are indebted to anshe for keeping land prices stable and the margins low.

Hey, Bob. Well, let me add some emphasis here: she doesn't have enough competition.

How's that? There.

I remember Phillip Linden posting about how land barons were really not making much money off land. It is funny the richest in person is just that. :p

Considering that the past 8 months I moved more than 20 million sqm of land Philip is right :-)

I have proven that even at McDonalds you can get rich if work day and night and save every penny.

Is having money in sl a bad thing? No.

More power to those who make it. More power to those that know how to make it. Congrats to those who gamed the system enough to make a profit from it.
