Wow, this outpouring of concern for Anshe is so touching. Maybe we can start a volunteer group to help her out.

Hiro and Eboni, I'll start the group and send you an invite and then we'll have a meeting (I'll post it on the event calendar). And we can set up times to help Anshe out.

This is so heartwarming to see the community come together in this way.

The most successful software company in the world does a piss-poor job on all these points. Particularly the first three. Why do you expect Linden Labs to do any better?
Yes, it's true, I have a blog now!

Since the term "work" has come up I thought I share some of the things I spend about 100 hours per week on:

o Analyzing economic situation and trends to be able properly evaluate L$ value and value of different types of land
[...]
Between all this work since many months I don't really have time go to parties or socialize.

Anshe, either you're doing something wrong or this is what the current SL market 'holds'.
100 hours of work per week is... 3 people's job. You should have two 'employees' helping you, the only question is, is there enough money in this to be able to pay them enough?

If yes? No problem, and you NEED to get employees.
If not? That means the SL economy is not strong enough to support this kind of business.

And, as for bashing Anshe. Other than her buying for sometimes shamelessly low prices, and selling for fair but many times a bit more, she's more or less okay in my eyes. Business girl? Yes.

But then again, she was flexible enough to allow me to 'reserve' a land for sell for a few days until I could get rid of my old land. Okay, maybe that land would've been there later also, but it's better not to gamble on that :-)

Thought du jour:

Is Anshe spread too thinly?

From: Anshe Chung
Serving 420 retailers and residents who have rented stores or land from me. I estimate that I am handling about 100-200 inquiries from customers, employees, applicants etc. per day.

The answer Hiro is 'yes.'

Wow, I spend maybe two hours on weekend mornings and an hour here or there during the week keeping track of my holdings; which are a pimple on the ass of Anshe's empire.

I cannot imagine how she can deal with 420 retailers and residents on a regular basis. Even with auto-payment-thingies it's still gotta be a bitch dealing with retailers and residents.

There is a good article in Businessweek about what undid Carly Fiorina at HP.

http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/05_09/b3922059_mz011.htm

Carly made HP more about her than the Company. Anshe may or may not be burning herself out but I don't see ego here. Maybe the ego to build an empire but she is at least making the personal sacrifices to get it done. Many here may think it is just a game and be content with selling the occasional BJ animation, but Anshe obviously has higher aspirations. Hopefully she will not spread herself too thin because at least for now, I'm comfortable with her driving the market.

Yes, I think you work hard too. The amount of time and effort you and your friends put into attempted character assassination on this forum is remarkable :-)...
I resent your implication that I have friends!

Unless you mean the other people who post things that show what Anshe has wrought upon SL, in which case they aren't my friends, they just look at your actions and draw the same conclusions. There is a difference between impugning someone's character and critiquing their actions. I care not about your character so assasination would be a waste. Your actions are worthy of discussion as they are world affecting - some think quite selfishly and opportunistically so.

Anshe Chung's escort notecard from early-mid 2004:

"I am a material girl with a money fetish - this means I get very kinky if you give me a nice gift. I don't know why. It kinda happens. Just a reaction of my body getting very hot. Maybe because I feel you show me special appreciation. So many boys want to make love and have nice words, but not so many boys really give up something they cherrish. This is why I ask for a little tip when you meet me :-)"

Not Horatio Chung or Anshe Carnegie, then. The other way to wealth and influence.

Anshe Chung's escort notecard from early-mid 2004:

And you felt it was necessary to post this without further explanation, why? We're you stupid enough to pay for an escort? Not satisfied with her animated gyrations? LOL. Come on, tell us how much you spent. :-)

This card seems pretty tame compared to much of what is out there.

That's quite the assumption. No, being a gay man I would never pay a woman for sex.

I borrowed that quote from someone else who owned the notecard, and without citing his interpretation (as I've not remotely asked him for permission to do so) I'll say simply that "things haven't changed much" with Anshe.

(One long year ago in a galaxy far far away in a second life before Second Life...)

You begin to feel the summer rain on your forehead as you walk down the shuttle ramp. The air is humid and still warm, even at this late hour. Far above, the clouds are moving with a ghostly graze, tearing open, giving you a glimpse of the stars, then melting again, grey into grey.

You see her, dancing, her feet moving across the asphalt, swiftly, easily - turning, jumping and touching the ground again with precision and graze, her long black hair flying around her head as she is spinning around herself once, twice and again.

You move closer, watching her, she slows down, her body now moving fluently, almost flowing with the rain, performing a ballet dance in the street, at night, the warm rain running down her skin. Her white ballet dress is soaked with rain water as must be her slippers, but she doesn't seem to care.

She is beautiful.

After the engines of the shuttle stop, you can hear the rain falling on your trench coat, the travel terminal, the street... then you hear her soft voice as she begins to sing a song:

I am singing a little song
Maybe I will all night long
The sky's tears all rain down on me
But I feel free - so free - so free

For you I am singing this song
Will you watch me all night along?
Your tears will they rain down on me?
Feel free - feel free - please feel free

Your heart beating fast - yes I know
Don't be shy, no need that you bow
I know you feel lonely my dear
But I'm here - I am here - yes I am here

For you I am here late at night
Make you happy, however you like
Come show me you care and we see
We are free - so free - yes so free...

As she is singing the last verse she slows down. She is standing still and you see her dark, almond shaped eyes staring at you. She gives you a warm smile, then she politely and indefinitely grazefully kowtows before you. You realize that this night you won't leave the shuttle port alone. You realize that you don't care for how much she will ask from you. You know that this rainy summer night in Theed you will never forget.

This might be how you met Anshe.

Hah! I remember that! I have one of those as well :)
I remember when Anshe was making sex balls.
She had this whole system that let you change poses on the fly.
Very innovative stuff!

I assume Anshe has so much money in L$ because she buys land by the sim at auctions in US$ and then sells or rents it in-game mostly for L$. She's got to repatriate some of that money to balance the books at some point.

Does anyone else think LL should pay interest in the form of stipend bonusses? You know, given that they apparently care so much about the economics of SL matching those of the real world..

I have a 1U rackmount server in London with Redbus. It's on a 100mbps internet connection with more than 200GB allowed net traffic a month. It's got a gig of ram, a 3.2GHz P4 hyperthreaded processor and 480GB of hard disk space in a RAID 5 array.

I think Linden Labs should let me pay then a small fee for the sim software, and let me run a private island on MY server. Renting land all the time? I already have 'land', I have a humongous server. So let me run a private island already. I'll pay for it.
