I believe Profoky is looking for some of the rare ones in the products wanted section. Might even pay a good price too.

The Black Tulip and its handmaidens have been found.

A great evil has been lifted!

Thanks to all who participated... a few more tulips to come later perhaps :)

Edit: of the few remaining ones that are left, of course! :P

A single Precious Gold Tulip appears.

96 sprouted... 3 to go.

Could be anywhere! Look carefully! At West Trade Imports...

1) Name: Precious Gold Tulip, 4 of 5

Things are looking a bit better now that the greatest evil has passed.

PLEASE reveal the variety and number on the TuleX trading floor.

If you destroy one, or intend to keep one forever, please make a record of it there.

TuleX: /244/fe/88655/1.html

Edit: found!

Edit Edit: THREE to go, sorry about the typo above.

The last three tulips sprout.

1) Name: Phantom White Tulip, 24 of 25
2) Name: Phantom White Tulip, 25 of 25
3) Name: Precious Gold Tulip, 5 of 5

The ground in sim Alice, hard-packed by tulip hunters, is no longer suitable for tulips. No further bulbs can survive.

The entire genus becomes Extinct in the Wild.

PLEASE reveal the variety and number on the TuleX trading floor.

If you destroy one, or intend to keep one forever, please make a record of it there.

Desmond Shang is out of the tulip business forever.

Thank you all for participating!

Again, thank you to all who have participated.

I'm going to break all the forum rules and name some names.

A few honourable mentions are worth making.

1) Shaun Altman.

Saw me making my example tulip, and BOUGHT it just because he liked it I suppose. I explained it was important, and told him what was up - he immediately gave it back. It was no mod, so no risk or harm done.

2) Surina Skallagrimson & Kamilah Hauptmann.

Again, with my example tulip, I was just showing them what all the fuss was about when (if I recall correctly) Ms Skallagrimson asked to see a tulip. It was still accidentally set for sale for $L 10. Both had the decency NOT to buy it, but I endured a very well-deserved tease. Class acts, the both of them.

3) Torley.

What kind of luck would it be, that my ONLY tulip error would be sold to Torley. AND - that tulip particularly in Torley's Tints! This is... enough to make one sense the ghost in the machine, and smile.

4) Gerami Fizz of FizzWorks

My secret weapon when it came to placing the tulips out without getting caught. He would keep a lookout, fly fake 'planting' patterns, and otherwise safeguard things. Even built some Tulip-scanner countermeasures and deployed them. If you got a tulip without being a power gamer or a cheater, Gerami helped you. As it was, nobody succeeded to swoop in while I was planting.

5) All of the rest of you.

This exercise may go away tomorrow, or it may carry on for years. Thank you all for doing your part!

And now, my final, cryptic gift:

Torus; Hollow 95; 0.200 0.200 0.200; 0.00 90.00 0.00;
Hole Size 1.00 0.50; Advanced Cut 0.30 0.85

Torus; 0.656 0.030 0.030; 0.00 90.00 0.00

Torus; Cut 0.00 0.40; Hollow 95; Skew 0.80; 0.063 2.500 1.000;
177.75 286.85 90.00; Hole Size 1.00 0.25; Advanced Cut 0.40 1.00;
Taper 1.00 -1.00 Radius Delta -1.000

Torus; Cut 0.00 0.40; Hollow 95; Skew 0.80; 0.063 2.500 1.000;
185.25 73.10 270.00; Hole Size 1.00 0.25; Advanced Cut 0.40 1.00;
Taper 1.00 -1.00 Radius Delta -1.000

Enjoy!

EDIT: A careful builder noted that I didn't record the regular cut of 0.00 0.40 off the last two prims above properly; it is now fixed. If people enjoy the tulips, by all means, have fun with this.

EDIT EDIT: I also fixed the 'Hole Size' in the first prim, apparently I'd missed that too and another expert builder caught it. :D

And for peeps who're interested and not reading the trading thread:

Anyone who wants to see the Rare Dark Beauty Tulip before I sell it can at this spot next to West Trade Imports.

It's actually for sale... for a cool million. (Just because it amuses me to do so, I'm easily amused :p)

I've had a couple of offers and will be selling it this evening. I don't know if it'll be on display by the new owner, so if you want to see it this may be your only chance.

For those enquiring about tulip prices, to be honest, I haven't heard much.

Most people that have them seem to think they are cute and are keeping them; some have been planted in Caledon by residents and if you look sharp, you can find them in yards there.

It's been awful quiet, and to be honest I don't think there is a lot of interest.

Incidentally, I gave away the 100th tulip, the one I had at West Trade (Scarlet Passion #36 of 36). I have none whatsoever, now.

I'm going to break from my own request and not say who has it.

Hooo boy.

Ah, from anyone but me, any more. Try here: /244/fe/88655/1.html

People tend to keep them. There were red, white, orange, peach, lavender, gold, and a black one.

Possibly, one of each would sell for $L 70 ($L 10 each) - that's what they originally sold for.

Good luck!

*smiles*

The black tulip is now off the market.

Terms of its aquisition are being held in strict confidence; it has been gifted to someone who is likely to never part with it.

Special thanks to Gabe Lippmann for making this possible.

:) The best gift. The tulip I gave Cecily is off the market too. :D

Let us Mod them
07-21-2006 18:07
I think you should let us mod them in the form of re-texturing
but limit it to that so the shape remains recognizable.

Then everyone can submit if they so choose their modded tulip
to an auction contest for charity.

This would increase the variation and rarity and well as benifit
a hopefully worthy cause.

Desmond kindly released the prim settings to recreate the tulip shapes. They're in one of the other tulip threads (the release announcents one IIRC) if you want them.

Final note on the tulip subject perhaps.

I was informed that four tulips were duplicated the other day.

Reportedly, what happened was that there was a sim rollback, which restored the state of the sim the four tulips were in to an earlier time.

Thus, the owner had two sets of the four. Being an honest person, they showed me the tulips and I did my secret verification check just to see if they truly were duplicates.

Yep, both sets 'originals' as far as I could tell, as would be expected from a sim rollback duplication. I was given one set of the tulips, which I promptly destroyed by deleting them in my inventory and emptying the trash.

So as far as I'm concerned, the experiment in scarcity is over.

For relatively low value items that aren't worth the bother of duplicating, scarce items are fun and can have some 'game' value.

But for anything which might be expected to accrue real value, I'd highly advise not trying it. Items can be lost entirely in an asset server accident, or 'duped' any time one might be expecting a grid rollback. Rollbacks are rare but do occur, and grid problems may foretell an imminent rollback.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the tulip thing, enjoy them, and don't ever pay too much for any 'scarce' item!

I'm trying to talk someone into very inexpensively selling (unlimited) tulips similar to the ones I made, but in different shades so they are obviously not the same.

Due to this experiment I am still honourbound never to make another tulip in my Second Life, and am sticking to that.

Goodbye to the active Land and Economy forum, as well - it's been fun :)
