The tenth group of FIVE are released!

Thus adding up to fifty of the ninety-nine tulips to be. Halfway mark! And a mixed lot it is, too.

Outside where tulips belong, at West Trade Imports.

1) Name: Scarlet Passion Tulip, 14 of 36
2) Name: Phantom White Tulip, 15 of 25
3) Name: Spirit of Flame Tulip, 10 of 15
4) Name: Pale Lavender Tulip, 5 of 10
5) Name: Luscious Peach Tulip, 4 of 8

PLEASE reveal the variety and number on the TuleX trading floor.

If you destroy one, or intend to keep one forever, please make a record of it there.

TuleX: /244/fe/88655/1.html

Edit: this round all gone... it took a little while though :)

The twelfth group of FIVE are released!

60 sprouted... 39 to go.

- - - - - - - - - -

A remarkable strategist has devised a wickedly effective ploy! Buying the tulips, but NOT TAKING THEM until all have been found!

Thus, each already captive tulip beckons with its plaintive, false plea to other hunters, wasting precious time while the original finder continues to hunt...

Absolutely brilliant!

And thus, karmic balance on the West Trade Imports grounds begins to tip...

Outside where tulips belong, at West Trade Imports, tulip-passion flares...

Didn't think of that, it was more about speed and lazyness (why bother taking them yourself when you can have autoreturn do it for you?) Distracting people's a nice bonus though I guess. :D

*** a note to participants ***

I have noticed a -wide- variety of tulip-picking tendencies.

From tear-inducing acts of altruism, to Machiavellian Tulipcentrism.

All valid behaviours!

Points so far:

1) Those who hang about for tulips have generally ruined their *own* chances to get tulips! Almost without fail. By pushing releases into the next time zone, or worse.

2) I see people searching the grounds *before* my posts. It takes me less than a minute to plant, and nobody has 'caught' me yet. I've got wickedly good draw distance, and the skittishness of a caffienated deer. Yes, I seeee you lurking way off in the far sim, and I *suspect* your tulipy motives! I won't just release the tulips when you are lurking... waiting to swoop down on your prey.. not fair to the rest now is it?

3) I get busy with my own business I can't ignore (my customers, or business to do with my soon to be released sim). I don't mean to torture anyone who is waiting, but how do you say, 'excuse me, I have to plant some tulips' to someone who has just spent over $L 10k at your shop? Can't do it. It's not that I'm trying to torture anyone waiting.

4) 'Power gamer' strategy is paying off for some. A few 'regular folk' have been a bit disappointed. I sympathise, but not much I can do. I've taken to leaving my avatar logged in; it is quite apparent some folks have my avatar ID and are using trackers. But the behaviour is a 'valid' one - and won't engender hard feelings from me no matter how you 'play' the situation.

If I truly sense that most tulips will land in a mere few player's hands due to strategy or tactic, I'll stop and release the rest *very* unexpectedly after a *very* long time. Next week, or perhaps next month or season. It's all the same to me, and might lend something to the exercise!

On the other hand, I'm not going to devote my life to Tulip Socialism either. It's not that serious, folks! They are just little flowers.

Most of all, I thank everyone for their participation so far!

Every action is valid, each opinion, silent tulip holder and back door deal is a deliciously real part of the whole.

I wonder what the moral of the story will be? We shall see together!

^ Emergence!

I'm still hoping to get one of my own--thanx to Gabe Lippmann who gave one of his to me.

What an experiment!

Just got caught lurking in the garden by Desmond :)

He said the place lights up as soon as he posts and wondered why that might be. Along with another lurker we suggested it that it might be that people are SUBSCRIBING TO THE THREAD. (Go to 'Thread Tools' at the top and then choose instant email notification). Then when Desmond posts you get instant notification and can head over to West Trade Imports.

Oh no, did I just reveal someone's secret strategy? Mu ha ha ha ha!

(This makes things a tad more equal, don't ya think?)

*tests to see if folks are subscribing to the thread... how many will suddenly appear if I post this?*

:D

Edit: A-ha!

I was wondering about thread subscriptions, having earlier had the general topic of my mind because of the new banner to subscribe through in Announcements.

I came but I missed out again!

A few brief notes from the brutal front lines of the Second Life economy...

1) Once subscribing to the thread was mentioned, the number of people showing up just exploded.

I'm beginning to wonder how many the sim can support, by the time it comes down to the last ones.

2) A new strategy?

I could be wrong here, but... I *think* I saw other tulips (previously purchased) being rezzed as decoys!

Certainly people do this after all are picked to look at them and chat a bit, but I am pretty sure I saw one before I flew all the way down, where I *know* I didn't put a tulip.

Purrhaps some were showing off their exquisite collections? :)

The laws of karma cannot be denied; no amount of feng shui can fend off the negative effects of so much needless desire.

The grounds of West Trade Imports have now been affected.

West Trade Imports is now a damage-enabled zone.

Mild suggestion: You might want to pack some heat on the next rounds.

But please, don't blow away the antique shoppers!

Ahhh ... reminiscent of the Cabbage Patch riots of not long ago ... as ardent shoppers fought over the few Cabbage Patch Kids put out in toy stores. Fist-fights at the displays ... armed guards to control the crowds ... folks camped out overnight on the doorsteps of toystores expected to release the next AM.

I remember that - I also remember some people trying to sell a Tickle Me Elmo for $10,000 during the Christmas shortage in the '90s :D

Damage enable is cute, but if you really want a level field, make us walk and turn off scripts.

Does "anywhere" mean inside or out? on the ground, on top of the house or in the clouds at 300m? how about under the ground?

Was wondering that too.....I have found them planted on the ground outside, but been thinking about inside and in trees now :)

Anywhere at West Trade Imports means... anywhere!

Any place I could possibly put a tulip! Expect anything, everything, or little to nothing! Some of the longest lasting tulips were plainly out in the courtyard, on a few rounds.

And the ducks quack anyway now and then, but yes they quack when you shoot them, and nothing quite like the report of a shotgun to add to the excitement!
