Create a separate Business & Economy forum

The Land and the Economy Forum should be split up in the following way:
a. A new forum for non-business land issues, and one for business and economic issues
17 (21.8%)
b. Add a new subforum called Trading or Currency Market for discussions of the LindeX
15 (19.2%)
d. Keep it as is

I posted the suggestion below on the Linden Forums this morning. Here is a link to the response. /139/14/107476/1.html#post1044057So, I'm now posting this suggestion for your input--the good, the bad, and the downright flaming ugly The Land and the Economy forum is a useful and interesting forum in which I spend most of my forum time. It occurred to me this morning that some of the land threads have nothing to do with business or economic issues but more to do with general land management questions. I propose that the Land and the Economy forum be spilt into two forums--one for non-business land issues, one for business and economic issues. Doing so would help provide residents who are interested in RW business applications of SL a formal place to post topics without having to compete with posts about non-business use of land. It may also be nice to split out discussions of the LindeX into a Trading or Currency Market subforum of the Business & Economy forum. Discussions of Linden trading and price would occur there but discussions of broader economic topics such as inflation, supply and demand, value, etcetera would occur in the main forum.

Okay, so far we've had few votes. Forum members are almost split between doing something and doing nothing.
If you haven't voted, please do so now!

Flawed Poll
05-20-2006 05:02
Torley,
Plz bear in mind that mainlty there are two views: 1. subdivide forums 2. Keep as is.
So, dont let it happen that if you get 30 votes for (a), 15 for (b), and 15 for (a+b), while 40 for KEEP as is. What I mean to say is 40 votes in favour of keep as doesnt make it winner, as 60 went against the basic premise.
So, dont let it be made a Bush Victory...

Zulqadi, you make a valid point. We sure wouldn't want a bush victory. Since this vote goes by popular poll and not electoral college--although we will accept one dollar, one vote --if more people vote for D than the other three options combined, then nothing will be changed. However, since a person can only vote once (# see question at bottom), any vote in a through c indicates a change is desired. Therefore, the total votes of a-c should be added up and then compared to d to determine the winning preference. Currently, the vote stands at 15 in favor of a change, 9 against. If the vote were to end today, 62.5% would favor a change. This would be a big victory in RW politics! So, keep voting. We need many more votes before the poll closes. Although I set the poll to never close (oops), I think this should run for two weeks to give everyone a fair chance to vote. Therefore, the poll will close on Friday, June 2 at midnight--meaning the start of that day. Any votes cast after that time will be ignored. # Torley you may be able to answer this: I assume that the polling system checks real name account information and not alternate account information to determine if a "person" has voted already. It would not be a fair poll if a single person could vote multiple times just because they had multiple alt accounts.

I think it is still fair if people use alts to make multiple votes, on two grounds: 1. In SL, every alt is seperate individual. 2. Those who spent more have more right to be heard. anyway, just an opinion.

Keep voting
05-21-2006 05:23
Thirty-one people have voted so far.
The percentage of people in favor of a change has increased over the (almost) last 24 hours. It is now 64.5% versus 62.5%.
Still, there are too few votes to give the poll much meaning. So, vote if you have not already!

I voted for keep it as it is.... most of the land related posts are about the land business... and I don't think there actually that much non-relevant land stuff competing with anything else in this forum. Land is a huge component of the SL economy, and I like reading about it alongside all the other stuff. I also think this forum is a great resource for people wanting to ask questions about land, because some very knowledgable people read this forum, and seem very willing to answer people's questions and give sound advice. There's probably not even enough non-economic land discussion to warrant its own sub-forum.

There's probably not even enough non-economic land discussion to warrant its own sub-forum. See I have a different take on this. The L&E forum is flooded with Lindex threads, most of which are nth generation versions of previous threads. I think that puts off a lot of people who would have otherwise made a contribution to discussions and questions about land, and the economy in general. There is a notable absence of many that used to post in this forum; I certainly don't come here as much as I once did. I think there is a sufficent number of lindex and L$ trading threads to warrant it's own forum. Everything else get's lost amongst them.

Hiro, that is very true... definitely won't argue there's not a lot of recycled Lindex threads... that one goes round and round in circles for sure.

I agree, Hiro. Thanks for your comments.
That is why I'm suggeting a subform for Lindex discussions. I think it should stay within the Business & Economy forum.

I received an answer from Torley to my questions posted on the Linden Forum--thanks Torley! Here is a link to my questions and her response: /139/1b/107897/1.htmlSo I guess it is one dollar, one vote. Or maybe more like for each $10 you pay per month (i.e. the cost of each alt account), you receive one vote. Boy, if the RW worked this way, we'd have a President Gore instead. I know I would have voted for him more than once.

Okay, 24 hours more have passed and the vote now stands at 69.2% for a change versus 30.8 to keep as is. Once again, the percentage of people in favor of a change has increased.
We need more people--or maybe alts--to cast their vote. If you have not cast your vote yet, please do!
In the meantime, I'll be reading the increasing number of threads about the Linden.

From: Bloop Cork Boy, if the RW worked this way, we'd have a President Gore instead. I know I would have voted for him more than once. Plenty of people did and he still didn't get elected. I don't think the man who invented the internet would have made a very good president. That being said the man we have now isn't much better and I voted for some else because I couldn't stomach either one. Since this this isn't about USA politics I'll get back on topic and say I would have voted more than once but only have 1 account so couldn't.

From: Svar Beckersted I don't think the man who invented the internet would have made a very good president. That is too funny! Do you think Al invented the 3D Internet as well? I think I saw an Al Linden somewhere. From: Svar Beckersted Since this this isn't about USA politics I'll get back on topic and say I would have voted more than once but only have 1 account so couldn't. Yeah, I suppose if I had another account I would too. But, I cannot understand the need to have alt accounts. My first account is already a different representation of myself. How many different personalities do people need? By the way, as it stands right now, 70% of voters want a change. 10 days to go. Vote now!

Okay, here's the 24 hour update. With 45 total votes cast so far:
71.1% in favor of a change 28.9% want to keep forum as is
Remember, voting ends eight days from now on Friday, June 1 at midnight (i.e. the beginning of the day). We need more people to vote. So, if you have not yet cast your vote, please do so. As they say in Texas, vote early and often!

Okay, here's the next 24 hour update:
No change! No one voted over the last 24 hours--but there sure have been A LOT of new threads created about the value of the Linden and trading on the Lindex.
Gee, do you think we might need a separate forum (subforum) for discussions of the Linden?
Vote!
