At ANSHECHUNG.COM we believe in a Second Life world that is more than an endless random collection of land parcels. We believe in diversity, culture and places worth exploration, while at the same time empowering people to realize their own dreams.
In the new continent of Islandia we are working on a large scale consistent development that will feature different landscapes ranging from very structured areas to wild mountain ranges. As you know we do this within a very tight timeframe and within the constraints of a very competitive land market. However, we are up to the challenge and we are confident that we will be able to provide you an area that will be attractive to both land owners and visitors.
Some of the sims we are designing will very much work like blank canvases, allowing land owners to shape their islands any way they want. Round or square, or maybe shaped like a heart or a flower? Become an artist and "paint" your island shape!
To continue this analogy we will name each of those "blank canvas" sims after a famous painter and will donate a small space in the centre of each of these sims for educational purposes. Our vision is that while exploring Islandia, people are also able to explore some of the history of art and learn about the works of painters such as van Gogh, Dali or Wahol.
Each of these small spaces will be a 10m x 10m island on a 240sqm land parcel with 55 prims. It will be in a very central and visible location.
This is where we would like to invite you and the community at large to participate. As a single business we could never emulate the creativity and diversity of the artist community as it exists here. Islandia will also be part of the mainland and some spaces will become Linden protected. This is why we would like to give more people a chance to get involved and open up some of the creative process to you. We'd like to give more people a chance to leave their mark in the SL world.
We consider this a first experiment. If it is successful, then in the future we would like to expand the same process into other areas.
Here is how you can participate:
o We will set the sim nts55 up as development sandbox
o nts55 will be sectioned into 240sqm land parcels, each bearing the name of one of 12 famous painters of the 20th century
o You can then create educational/artistic installations that meet the design criteria as listed below
o Make sure to save your work since there might be wipes or prim overflows
o Submit a folder with a copy of your work and/or screenshots to me (Guni Greenstein). The name should consist of your SL name and the name of the painter you picked.
o You can make one submission per painter.
o Best entries will be chosen on Monday 23th and placed on protected land in the new sims.
Design criteria:
o Low profile and unobstructive infrastructure type of design. Something that people who live in the area can look at day after day after day without getting tired of it. Also keep in mind that next door people might build anything from a medieval castle to a space ship.
o Must give you an impression of the style of the artist. For example after visiting the Monet installation a person who has not been familiar with paintings by Monet should have received a rough idea of his work.
o Some information about the artist and his background should be provided in a newbie friendly way, such as through a notecard giver or other effective means.
o Optionally you can add a small "about" feature that provides information about yourself, how you made the installation and other stuff related to the project that you would like to share.
We hope this invitation appeals to you. If you have any questions you can leave me an IM and I will try to get back to you.

So... what do contributors get out of this? Paid for submissions, or is it just work for free?

This is a non-profit project to make SL more appealing to explorers and to provide residents with a chance to leave their mark without the need to pay tier.

Clarification Please

This is confusing to me. From: Guni Greenstein ... Low profile and unobstructive infrastructure type of design.... "Infrastructure" usually refers to utilitarian things like roads, ports, electricity, services etc. and "unobstructive" means not "getting in the way" (like not in the middle of the road or whatever) but this is an art display on a seperate plot surrounded by water. Did you mean to say "unobtrusive and inoffensive"? Also, you say the plots have already been named after the particular artists, could you publish a list so we know which artists are okay to do?

i dunno what you are planning guni, but if the south east corner is an example of what the rest of the continent will look, i will have to declare this experiment of LL outsourcing terrain modelling (without discounting land prices) a complete failure.
if a sim is baselined at 1000 USD with beautiful terraforming done in house by LL, then if that artistic work is not provided, the baseline should move down. or maybe i'm the only one who doesn't find a checkerboard of square islands appealing.

From: Dianne Mechanique This is confusing to me. Infrastructure elements are usually designed in a way that they pretty much match anything people might build next to them. They won't dominate the whole area, but fit in with the surroundings and are artistically acceptable to most people. Since those installations we are discussing here are meant to stay on protected land for a long time, maybe even permanently, they would have to be designed with that in mind. From: someone Also, you say the plots have already been named after the particular artists, could you publish a list so we know which artists are okay to do? We have picked the following artists to start with: - Dali - Hundertwasser - Chagall - Cezanne - van Gogh - Monet - Moore - Matisse - Lichtenstein - Kandinsky - Picasso - Wahol Those all seem to have created some pretty cool stuff that was groundbreaking in one way or another. I personally could imagine all of them to have become enthusiastic with SL if SL would have been around a couple of years earlier.

From: Siggy Romulus Land and Economy? Products and services? Notices and well wishes? You'd think, right. Considering the post was made just after 11pm (Pacific/SL time) on a Sunday night, it has cleverly escaped the reaches of forum moderators who won't be back on here until morning. Location, location, location......... Timing, timing, timing............

From: Jauani Wu and we haven't seen that before... oh maybe if they could mint a few L$ to through at you would that make it ok, right? This is Anshe Chung, not LL. Anshe Chung can't mint L$. Well, not yet, anyway. (Although in a sense this makes asking for it for free worse.) Notice it's on an nts sim, though - like we didn't know who was going to win that bulk auction

From: Guni Greenstein yeah i sure want to panik u. but if needed we can use 5 million lindens we put aside to dump on the market. if u cash out fast we can do with dumping less but it will all go way down. u look at the market now. we just played with 300k yesterday. tomorrow is weekend we open the gates and u better run for ur buck. lol. yeah. now u get 3.70. how much u get tomorrow. better sell while u still get some cash. we are the linden money gods now. us rulez! So, wait, is this art project of yours somehow related to being the "linden money gods?" Is Anshe a "linden money god" also? I dunno, man. If people are going to help you out just so you can earn enough cash to devalue the L$ market, I think that's a bad thing. edit: Whoa, what about this one? From: Guni Greenstein yeah u r pissin ur pants and i tell u u r not alone coz all the cash barons gotta piss their pants now. ace gotta piss now. coz u got a day to sell off then we dump. we don't got 10 mio but 5 mio linden will do. and coz who sells last gets the most trashy price everyone gotta sell. Oh, I don't know. I just don't know at all. I think anyone getting involved with this character does so at his or her peril. Market manipulation? Dreadful, dreadful stuff indeed.

(and I said no sex stuff so don't let your mom get mad enough to tell your dad, I don't want to get sued!)

Afaik, Mulch, Guni isn't so much the hired hand as the supportive husband of AnsheChung.com But I do remember the thread and ensuing discussions about Black Saturday with amusement and fondness, and it somehow became funnier in retrospect when it was obvious who Guni was, rather than some random forum troll.

This is a wonderful opportunity for SL artists to give away their services for free to a well deserving corporate entity who couldn't afford to contract artists, but must rely on the goodwill of the populace. I don't know why anyone would balk at taking time and effort to help Anshecorp better their product. This is for the good of us ALL. Why can't you cynics see that? I, for one, am going to take my day off to create something special.
