Glad you learned to type in proper English between your 'cash baron' days and now. Good English/Bad English must be a trait that runs in the family.

This is a non-profit project to make SL more appealing to explorers and to provide residents with a chance to leave their mark without the need to pay tier.

non-profit != tax deductable

There are more than two types of foundations, but the two interesting types are:
- non-profit (and non tax-deductable)
- non-profit and tax-deductable

So non-profit doesn't mean you can deduct tax. In fact, tax-deductable is an extra. It can be only given to foundations which are doing work in predefined, tax-deductable fields (like teaching, research, etc) listed in the law.

BTW, look at the positive side!

Look how much Guni has progressed with his writing skills! In the cited posts, all text was without any paragraphs, full of errors, improper English, etc. The post that started the thread is certainly a VAST improvement! :-)

Won't you be profiting, though?

OMG NOW I UNDERSTAND, SO WILL GUNI

For what it's worth - and I know this may be a *highly* unpopular opinion - but honestly, folks... someone has said: we are willing to consider *your* art on *our* land.

There are obvious benefits to that, for all concerned. There is no one forcing anyone to do anything.

It is one thing to be critical, but quite another to append critical remarks on someone's invitation letter. It's not right to do that. No matter who they are, no matter who you are.

Were I not overbooked making things for my own upcoming sim, I'd consider the Picasso or Dali in a heartbeat. For the simple fun of it. But sadly I'm overwhelmed these days.

Perhaps I'll be a pariah now for this view - and quite frankly as a soon-to-be small-time competitor of Anshe and Guni I have nothing to gain here - but my own sense of propriety.

One difference between the two threads is the Cyborg Suit hunt post was not created by those sponsoring it, but an end user. This is just an ad though that does not belong in General. However, it was timed into that wonderful gap in moderation at the end of a weekend for maximum visibility.

I mean, the Cyborg Suit Hunt belongs in Events. So does this, looks like to me.

One of the things I first thought was: why didn't SL do this?

So, wait, is this art project of yours somehow related to being the "linden money gods?" Is Anshe a "linden money god" also?

I dunno, man. If people are going to help you out just so you can earn enough cash to devalue the L$ market, I think that's a bad thing.

edit: Whoa, what about this one?

Oh, I don't know. I just don't know at all. I think anyone getting involved with this character does so at his or her peril. Market manipulation? Dreadful, dreadful stuff indeed. :(

you are replying in the wrong thread enabran. and you are expected be able to spot good satire the first time around. get your seigebot telemetry cleaned :)

Ahh, free art labor, gotcha.

oh for crying out loud. Normally I'd be the last person to take anshechung.com's side. But I've heard arguments along these lines way too much.

Person A: Sl is a rotting cesspool of ugly and tasteless builds, poor teraforming and absolutely no protection from on high.

Person B: You should take it upon yourself to make SL better, buy a sim and zone it, start a community, provide some world beautifying ediface.

Person A: I can't do that, I don't have the money to own and island/maintain tier in perpetuity for a build like that.

AnsheChung: We are providing zoned land for use if you would like to take a crack at beautifying SL.

(I got the idea that these builds would eventually be protected and so, not require continued private support)

Person A: That's so crass and manipulative you just want free work done.

Me: wtf, you just got at least a piece of what you said you wanted. it came from someone who's motives mightnot be pure, and not from a source people might be comfortable with accepting, but it's still a piece of what was wanted.

There's a "Yes and no" aspect to this. The main problem is that AnsheChung.com is a for-profit business running on top of LL. So if you beautify their land for free, you've just made it easier for them to make a profit. Getting your build placed on free land CAN be a good thing, but since you don't know what these sims are going to be zoned as, it might not be; if they're going to be residential, chances are you're just building something where someone will say "that's a nice view" and look away, never even actually travelling onto the parcel. I mean, I could understand doing this if it was LL calling for submissions, because even though they're going to make a profit out of the land too, they probably would have sold it anyway; it's only resellers who use zoning and beautification of areas to claim extra profits.

The second problem is that it's pretty clear that what's happened is that Anshe's bought the 40-sim block and needs to get it beautified quickly so it can start selling. However, it is not really in the interests of the average builder to encourage this endeavour, because if it works well LL will be encourage to sell land in bigger and bigger bulk blocks, thus hurting Joe Average Builder by giving land resellers even more of a lock on the best prices (and especially to Anshe, because as the biggest land reseller she can define the price and thus create her own sweet spots in the bidding). This is a problem with your argument above: person A can't afford to get a sim and pay tier in perpetutity, but maybe if land barons had never come along, person A wouldn't be stuck having to buy an entire sim in order to get any land from LL.
