I really doubt the dumbass filed any kind of a lawsuit.

Going from chat histories, he should be worried about covering his own ass and not so worried about going after you. He flat out stated in the beginning he put it there on purpose and that you weren't "helpful" by building a walkway, so deal with whatever they do.

I guess I could say that it is dealt with.
There is a wall there, and nothing more I can do for them.
That shall be the end of it for now.
Thanks for the feedback.

You all need to do is play nice, I am sure this person that you talk of is not very happy that you copy and pasted the conversations on the forums. I work for a Law firm in Chicago, and I know that this is the first intent of slander. Did you ever think of that before you posted? This Mr. and Mrs. Smith I will call them could be holding all the cards now.. You can copy and paste things for your own ref. in game to apply toward a linden, but... when you go outside the game into forum and unleash dissclosed information, conversations, and intend on slanderous action even without stating there names still falls into copywrite privacy. You should be very leary beofre copy and pasting such conversations for the world to see, it lands people in hot water everyday in rl, it could easily happen in sl, or in this case on the web now. LOL! This is some of the worst legal advice I've seen in the forums! Copyright (not copywrite) law doesn't apply to online conversations, it's about the owner retaining the right to copy a work (film, novel etc). As long as what was posted is what was said, it can't be slander. Legally, if you have a text conversation, it belongs to everyone who participated in the conversation and can be used however they see fit.

I have heard (again on the forums, so who knows how accurate that is) that it's against the TOS to post a chat log. Don't know if changing the names changes that though.

You can copy my conversations and use them for reporting purposes, personal information, or a typical notecard as it is.

Not to be repetitious here, but a conversation doesn't belong to just one person.

From: Devo Reitveld
When you take that personal text out of the game and paste it onto a web page its a whole new game, then content has been brought out of the game and exploited for profit, it has been made to slander an individual, and that is against TOS agreements and also.. I am afraid to say against the law.

Right and wrong. It is against the TOS to post a chat log, it is not against the law, and it's not slander if it is an accurate accounting of the conversation.

From: Devo Reitveld
Growing into a new age of cyber space one needs to be aware that you can get into trouble without asking for consent, and you need to have that permission to publish an edited document that someone has writen, its simple publishing, and copywrite infractions.

Conversations are not subject to copyright protections. Copyright not copywrite. Conversations are not "fixed" works. Online conversations fall more under the rules of personal letters and telephone conversations. They are not subject to copyright protections. Period.

Although they might be very petty arguements they do still hold a valid case when dealing with editing and publishing. So I did win in this case. I know that is was childish, but to slander me in an open forum, is NOT allowed. And to take my words and the Other (" Mrs Smith";) I will call her or Griefer# 1 is against the laws of internet publishing.. We all need to be aware of this when emotions come into play, and we act on that instead of our common sense. So...... I have to say now... " Babies, babies. By the time I'm done with you, you will all be wearing gold plated diapers." (Christopher Walken)

Which laws of internet publishing???? LOL

I can't believe you posted another chat log, after being told it's against the TOS. I really doubt changing the name will cover you. A person threatening legal action is not abuse, in any shape or form. It's not a threat in the sense of 'intimidation', it's merely a statement of intent. The person has their law muddled, but I can totally understand their anger at having their chat log posted. You should apologise and stop using the forums as a weapon. And how does any of this relate to 'Land and the Economy'?

There was a person who posted a fake chat transcript - she just made up a conversation... it got removed because Jeska thought she had posted a real one (no names used). I suggest to OP to remove chat logs. You really don't want disciplinary action, do you?
