Bump. Yes. Consider my name signed... When I had a friend first mention that you could only be in 10 groups at a time, I thought he was kidding; I see no real practical reason for this, definitely think we should be able to be in as many groups as we want.

If we're not going to get the number of groups raised, can we at least get a valid reason as to why not?
I don't mean to be negative, but this, and some other issues, have tremendous support from the residents, but zero feedback from the Lindens.

From: someone Originally posted by HoseQueen McLean If we're not going to get the number of groups raised, can we at least get a valid reason as to why not? Posted in this very thread. From: someone Originally posted by Adam Zaius It's actually a technical limit, but one that may be possible to work around. SL sends all groups in a single packet at the moment, IIRC. Unless this is a trivial change I would much prefer work be done on other far more important features and bug fixes. Being as it has not been increased already, it very likely is not an easy fix and users themselves can work around it. In any case, merely increasing the limit will not fix the problem. What would happen is that people would take a little longer to complain about the limit. Or perhaps not even that, with larger limits it would just lower the value of a group and a glut of them would appear since there is no reason to conserve slots. Better, as others have suggested, to have group functions script accessible and/or more customizable hierarchical groups.

I agree

Although I am personally not maxed out yet, I agree to the proposal because it is something constantly brought up by players.
SL players are perhaps more versatile than the average citizen?

"The LIMIT of only ten groups is causing a pain in my head. Many people who have malls or places for designers to show their wares, require that you join their group, and rightly so, to avoid the "returning of vendors and items" . But I am constantly quitting one group to be able to join another. Ten is just NOT enough.] I agree!!!! There are groups that I belong to merely for sentimental reasons, but I don't want to have to quit them just because my focus changes, like my moods LOL, but there are times that I have had to decline, regrettably, to requests to join new groups! Give us MORE THAN 10 GROUPS!!! Thank you

Perhaps I can make a suggestion here. I don't know if 10 groups is an "arbitrary" limit or if it goes deeply into the way SL works and affects resources consumption on the servers (like having things checking every frame for group ownership, since that affects movement). This would mean that raising the limit to, say, 20, could make the whole game 2 times slower!
In that case, we have the same problem as the prim limits per sim. It's the way the game works, and not an arbitrary decision by the Lindens.
However, you could change this to have ACTIVE groups and INACTIVE groups. You'd have groups inside your Inventory like Gestures, and you could check them "active", and they would appear on the Groups window! So this would keep the "physical limit" of 10 groups (for resource consumption purposes) BUT allow you to change the configuration of WHAT groups you currently have "active".
For malls who require groups, when objects are returned, the functions would check for ALL groups in your Inventory. Since this is usually a one-time-only event (compared to checking for land ownership every frame or so), it wouldn't add much to overhead (I don't know how the inventory IS implemented lol...). The same COULD apply to Group IM, etc. for the same reason. Only things like LSL scripts checking for group ownership, movement, and CPU-intensive activity needing to check the groups would just look at the 10 active groups only.

i think that no one replied so far that the "10 group limit" may not be "arbitrary" but a "system limitation", ie. like the number prims or avatars per sim. It's useless to vote for "features" which are actually breaking the system limits. Yes, I would like to vote for having 1000 prims per sq. meter of land but it's pointless to vote for that... Anyone KNOWS if this is the case with the group limit, or if it IS an arbitrary number set by LL? If it IS a physical limitation, there are workarounds, like I suggested before...

I think a HUGE problem here is that this thread has gone on for over a MONTH now. Over EIGHT HUNDRED people have viewed this thread, and it is getting close to the point of One Hundred to have signed. Yet Second Life officials have REPEATEDLY failed to respond to it. Questions abound. But Second Life continues to let its members down by responding. Shame shame on you Lindens. Your members need your help here.
