Second Life is a Social place, somewhere to meet people, and create friends and groups. The LIMIT of only ten groups is causing a pain in my head. Many people who have malls or places for designers to show their wares, require that you join their group, and rightly so, to avoid the "returning of vendors and items" . But I am constantly quitting one group to be able to join another. Ten is just NOT enough. There ( www.there.com), another online world, had a small limit when they began, and the same problem occured. They finally increased the number of clubs / groups that one could join. It was a GREAT step forward. If you agree, and would like to be able to join more than 10 groups, please reply to this thread. Thanks, and hopefully this will help SL change for the better. I will sign. Some groups are not so important, but you reach a point where the ones you are in mean something and it sucks to have to leave one of them to join another.

I think another solution to this problem is possible and needed that will not dilute the meaning of groups.

I agree.
I have thrown out every 'frivolous' group I can possibly do, some others I didnt really want to leave and miffed a few friends in the process, and am still at max so that I cant possibly join any more groups no matter what.
Gimme more!

There are many groups i would like to be a part of; most of them social groups; but its very hard to do so when i have to way the importance of one group against another.
For example there is an aircraft building group i would love to be a part of; the people in it are brilliant, i enjoy working with them. I was offered to be an officer of the group and i had to decline it because i was maxed out on groups that were more significant. For me what makes a group significant are a few variables.
* Does it give me access to land where i can sell items? * Is the group a group i want to be associated with? * Do I enjoy the people in the group? * Is the group work related? * Sentamental reasons for being in the group.
Notice that two of the items have to do with making money in SL. Usualy when i have a new work project that requires me to join a group i have to drop out of one of the old work groups or loose a sentamental group. It never has to do if i like the group or the people in the group.
Leaving a group for any reason other then a falling out or the people is wrong.
I would like to see groups be given catagories. So that a group has a classification like: Social, Buissness, Non-Profit. Then have restrictions on how many of each. Also have it so you can have an active and passive mode for being in a group. Where if you are a pasive member it doesn't count against you limits but you don't get use of group chat and voting (but to flip between the two would be just a check box and you could only flip it once in 12 hours).
Yes i would like to see the currecnt limit changed but i would like to know what it will be chaged to first. Lets get some ideas on what things sould be.

I'm not picking on ya, and I'm sure you're mostly joking, but it does annoy me when people say 'no' to a feature proposal solely because they won't use it, as happens often. What would it matter to you who didnt use more than 10 group slots to allow us who want it to have it? Say 'yes' for your friends, goddamn it. I'm sure at the end of the day it doesnt much matter, but if LL do actually count the yes and no's to see if anyone really cares, then it doesn't help to have a lot of 'no because I won't personally use it' answers.

Kris yes I was half joking I personally dont care if there were more slots.
BUT
My little remarked should have ellaborated that.
If the groups have to fight to remain in your list of 10 then I would assume that this competition would spur them to provide more of what group members find beneficial than their opposition.
If I was getting a benefit then ofcouse I waould stay in a group.
Allowing more groups means the officers dont have to put any effort in. _________________________________________________________ Not having a go at you Kris ... but I hear Kris bashing is a fun sport

Definately need more groups. The category idea aint bad. I've had to leave far too many groups in the last year, as I'm constantly maxxed out.

I'm down to 10 groups, all of them are important project groups to me... I'm screwed if another project comes along that I want to participate in. I already have my 10 core groups, I CAN NOT ditch any others, I've ditched, and ditched, and ditched so many others because I've decided these 10 were the most important. What if another comes along? Will it be more important than any of these 10? No, it will be EQUALY important, yeah, grasp that concept. I'm screwed.
Please up the anty on the group limit. I'll break if you don't.

I agree. We need more groups NOW. I am involved in several projects and am going to be an officer in a upcoming one. I can't leave any of my existing groups (who would want to leave Tartarus Guest?!) and I am not closing the one that I created.
More groups! More groups!

I can't think of any reason for a limitation such as this. If it were a technical mater, the limit would be 16 (or maybe 15) or 256 (or maybe 255). Limit of 10 sounds like social engineering, most of which is bad in a place like SL.

SL sends all groups in a single packet at the moment, IIRC. -Adam

Yes indeed, I would like this idea. I'm only in a few groups at the moment, and from my experience in there have learned the importance of selective grouping. There has a varying limit depending on your "funpass", 5,10,15,20,25, from basic to gold or whatever it is.

I suggest that you can join unlimited number of groups, but that only 10 groups are free to join and joining more groups costs weekly fees. And fees collected this way should automatically be added to the dwell pool

I disagree on charging Linden Dollars for joining more than 10 groups. Second Life is a social game, and to charge more to socialize is wrong. TONS of players that don't have a lot of linden dollars like the designers do, and little way of earning more except weekly stipend. Charging for this would be exactly what There ( www.there.com) does to "solve" problems. Everytime they try to fix something in There, the cost of something goes up. This angers members to no end; which is exactly WHY There is failing and loosing so many members. Please just allow us to join more clubs / groups. There are tons of groups, and just as many reasons people here want to belong to more than 10. I am allowed to join 50 clubs in There. Whether I ever actually join that many doesn't matter. But if I am a social butterfly, and desire to join that many, I can. I really don't see a reason to limit members on the number of groups they can join. Promoting groups, clubs, comeraderie, and gathering in a social game seems the most intelligent thing to do. Thank you for listening. Alexis Patel
