YES YES YES!

We definitely need more than ten. When SL was smaller, there were fewer people, fewer groups... now that there are ten times as many SIMs, and probably ten times as many people as 1.0... isn't it reasonable to be able to join more groups?

Its like asking you to limit yourself to ten total of the following:

- groups of friends
- group land ownership
- group building projects
- group information lists
- group charities
- group special interest groups / hobbies
- group FUNNY TITLES!

I think I'm an officer in 8/10 groups I'm in, which makes it especially hard. While not all are extremely active, a group tag can be a great way to start conversations, share common interests, a laugh, and help get newbies more interested in people and introduce them to the community.

Consider this thread signed by me, John Hancock style!

Regards,

-Flip

I've never understood why there's a limit in the first place. Yes please! Especially now that store and mall owners use groups to control prims for vendors having more than ten groups is desperately needed!

I'm in.

I think groups need a revamp in other areas, too, while we're at it.

If nothing else, I think we need some more script support for groups:

llIsGroupMember()
llIsGroupOfficer()

or variations depending on what other changes might be made to groups. And I think these need to work even if the specified group is not active.

I vote for an increase. In addition to affiliations, groups are useful for temporary projects and group IMs.

More Groups, Or a different way?
08-06-2004 12:55
Oops :-) I created a new thred rather than posting here.

Heres what i ment to say,, Here.

More groups could be a good and a bad thing.
Mostly good,
But it almost makes me think <Spam in SL?>

Perhaps the grouping system just needs changed a little.
I agree that 10 is not enough.

But say for instance a group simply for the object reterning issue,,, Perhaps there should be a better system for object returning.
Rather than making a group that will never really be "used" you should be able to make a list of names who can have objects on the land, much like the access or ban list.
Also a list for ppl to devide Dwell, ticket prices,
Controll over the % on each person.
and also controll over the number of prims each user can use.
Mind you sepretly not a general number for all.

But all that said, I still agree 10 groups is not enough. Im not utalizing all 10 atm, but at the rate im going, im sure i will.

i agree, more than 10 groups are needed. i know of a couple people that are having hard times figuring out which groups to stay members of.. a couple are members of my group (Erga Obinex) and i'm sure are looking forward to what the group will accomplish. but i'm planning on starting a second group as well.. how will some of them be able to join that one as well?!?

but more seriously...

at the rate of growth SL has been going through, we definitely need more group allowance. my suggestion is maybe 20 groups? i believe there should still be a cap, just a greater number. having a cap does force groups to be more worthwhile, but 10 has become too small of a number.

consider me signed up for this!

I agree that 10 groups is an artificially arbitrary limit.

I have to say, howver, that I am not a member of 10 at this point.

However, I do feel that business groups - apartment renter/mall vendors/etc - SHOULD NOT count against the group limit regardless of the number of other groups allowed. Any limit onte group membership of an av with respect to "conducting business" is counterproductive to the apparent aims of SL.

For instance.... say I want to be a creative person and sell my stuff in 12 malls each of which is set up so that group membership is required in order to set up vendors on that land.... As it currently stands, I can't do that... 12 is more than 10... so I can't sell my stuff in 2 places. Ridiculous.

As far as the number of non-business groups being limited to 10 - and this somehow "forces" groups to be more productive/add value to retain membership.... how can you know if you want to be a member without joining? And how can you join an try out a group if you are already at 10 - UNLESS you drop out of an other group? Totally unreal...the equvalent of saying (in RL) :You can;t be a member of te BBB AND the neighborhood watch at the same time because yo uwon't give up your concurrent membership in the PTA!

I agree with this proposal. I am constantly having to drop out of groups to join another one. I have been maxed out for a while now and I hate having to tell friends that I can't join their group because I'm maxed out on groups.

YES to a higher group limit
08-07-2004 10:26
I left another social group last night to join Sky Guides and now I'm in only 2 social groups (I'd like to be in more) All the others are either for Linden-bewstowed titles (Mentor, Instructor, Sky Guide), which I think should be exempt from the group limit, or things I'm in to help others with land allocations.

One thing you can do for a group IM is to make a folder and copy the calling cards of the people you want to conferance with, then right clik on it and IM everyone in that folder that is on line. I use this feature as I am maxed out also on groups.

If we have to join a Mall group to place vendors. I drop Vin Fiz and join the Mall group, place the items I need to in the Mall then drop out of Mall group and rejoin Vin Fiz.

I vote YES to more groups too! Ten is just not enough.

I had to drop several that I treasured.

With all the new users, groups, & projects it's almost impossible for alot of older/active residents to pick & choose only ten groups to be in. No fancy stuff, simply allow us to be in more groups.

I started one or two posts like this a few months ago.

I think as the world has grown there's a lot more support for it now (due to more land and more diverse interest groups), so hopefully something will be done soon.

I agree with the petiton to be able to join more than 10 groups, but please, for the love of all that is decent and good in the universe, do not make sugestions that SL take its cues from There.com.

SL is brimming with uniquely friiendly and creative people, almost all of whom are quality individuals. That cannot be said of There. Linden Labs is one of the most helpful and client-friendly companies I've ever seen. Again this cannot be said of There.

Your idea is good, but you run the risk of it losing its credibility when you imply that SL should do it like There does it.

I repeat, I am eyeing the only 2 social groups I have left for projects, I gave up on becoming a mentor simply because I have no available group slots.
I do like SL a lot, but I have so many projects that I am almost completely out of slots for anything like a social group.
Am I supposed to say, 'no, I can't do that, I'm out of groups' when someone asks me to do a job I want to do, I have... and I personally consider it a case where I wish I could have done that project.

Yes, I agree. Mac made a good point - it's difficult to think of a technical reason why we are restricted to less than 16 groups.

More groups! More groups!

I have closed one that I created, I'm officer in over half of the groups I'm on. O.o

LIFT GROUP LIMIT AND CREATE CATEGORIES
08-18-2004 20:22
I agree, the limit to the number of groups a person/furry/robot etc can join is outdated. I have had to drop groups in order to join another groups or to create groups that I need.

I also support the suggestion of creating categories of groups:

Retail/Vendor
Pure Social
Casino/Night Club
Trade (Scripting/Building)
Contest
