Why are people always whining in these forums?

SL is a place with no forced interaction. If you own land or an island, you can set privacy rules and no one except the people you want can come near you. If you are somewhere in “public” you can mute and ignore people and not have to listen to them. Yet, everyday someone comes in here whine about what SL is or isn’t and how their SL is being ruined, not really by griefers but by other people minding their own damn business.

“OMG, There are people selling Things!”
“OMG, they have bling!!!”
“OMG, people are making money!!!”
“OMG, I treat people like shit, make a shitty island, and no one wants to be my friend, I can’t believe it!”
“OMG, people are blonde haired big breasted, no ass avatars that look like hooker barbies and not scripting the night away!!! OMG!”
“OMG, there is something priced more than I can afford! This is an outrage. Yet other people can afford it so now I feel bad!”


Everyone here is over 18 supposedly. Live and let live. Whine to your friends if you have any, and keep the forums whine free

I'd like to take this moment to familiarize everyone with the godfather of bling:

Whining about whining is still whining.

Anyway, you're right of course. The thing is, SL is about personal enjoyment and the sad downside to that is that for some people enjoyment means complaining. If you want proof of that, engage any one of those people in a "discussion" and you'll see that the more you try to helpfully resolve their complaints, the more deeply entrenched into them they become. Many of them will even get angry at you for your attempts at taking away their reason to be upset. Some people are just built that way. Having something to complain about is vital for their sense of self. People who aren't built that way will probably never understand those who are, and vise versa, but that's reality.

So, I suppose if you really believe in live and let live, then the best thing to do is to let the complainers complain their little hearts out. No one takes them seriously except other complainers anyway, so there's really no harm in letting them do their thing. As much of the rest of us don't like hearing the negativity, there's not a whole lot we can do about it. Just stay positive, and if you feel the need to fight back, then fight the fights that are worth fighting, and be aware that they're not necessarily fights you can win. There is no winning with this type of thing.

Because they lack intelligence. Alot of them are also masochists. I really dont understand why some people are so worried about what others are doing. In SL you create your own world. There are plenty of things I don't relate to, or find wierd in SL. I just dont go there, involve myself, or complain. Gotta feel sorry for most of the whiners. Obviously they need attention, any kind of attention, good or bad. I read something yesterday where someone was "tired of the defamation of character" against them. Ironic part of it is, they do WAY more harm to their character than anyone else could by opening their mouth in every thread.

It's just an axiom. If you have a message board, people will whine on it. If you had a message board where everyone won a hundred dollars each time they posted about how they like winning a hundred dollars every time they post, someone would whine about how they want to win a hundred dollars for posting about something else and how unfair it is.

I rarely visit these forums and I think I have a much more positive outlook on the game because of it.

wever notice how when you are whining about something, you really are just pointing out a reasonable flaw with the game. But when others are expressing thier reasonable opinions about the game they are whining? Part of live and let live is putting up with the gripes other people post on the forums.

You know, you can't win at this frigging forum game. They dog you and pick at you no matter what. I posted in off-topic yesterday, wondering how long it would take somebody to follow me in and defame my character there, and what ho - a fabulous frigging THIRTY DAMN MINUTES. I ignored it.

I can either tell them to get the hell out of my face or I can sit there and take it like a whipped puppy dog. I ignore 90% of it. But when I complain

Oh yes - there is one other option besides either taking continual abuse or being called a whiner for not taking it.

And that is leaving the forums entirely. Which is exactly why people dog a person around and personally attack them at every post they make.

They WANT people to leave who don't agree with their world view.

Honestly look at your posts - why are so many of them about how wronged you have been, how differently you think, how everyone else is some lynch mob (but never you!), etc...? We get it already, my lord. Everything in these forums is not about you.

In the immortal words of Dolly Parton "Get down off the cross honey, someone needs the wood" I'm not part of any lynch mob I rarely post, I'm a lurker at best, I just watch and try to resist commenting but seriously making a martyr of yourself is just silly. You don't like something someone says ignore them. You don't like a rule it's kinda tough cookies LL makes the rules we just follow them or we quit. I haven't liked a lot of things LL has done and I don't like a lot of things said here but I'm not going to go on a one woman crusade to change everything.
