We need more sims like Jessie.
Actually.. we need a small chain of island sims like Jessie.

Seconded.

On a related note, vote Prop 517: Damage-enabled island sandbox in the mean time. I had the same thought, of an island chain of combat sims, but figured the Lindens wouldn't go for that unless someone plopped cash upfront, so I downgraded into my proposal for an island combat sandbox.

Those are some great ideas, Khamon - I'm with ya 100%. The current absence of these is the biggest reason why the Shelter doesn't sit on group land.

I really hope this gets the Linden attention it deserves, and at some point - changes are made.

I don't understand why this is an issue. Marlin Engineering sits on group land. The group was made by me, and I am (and will always be) the only officer in the group.

Why give up the 10% tier bonus that group land gives you over something that is only a problem if you make it a problem?

I'm in the same spot, only difference is besides one person I trust implicitly and one I have phsyical access to (for the beating he'd get for selling my land out from under me ;) ) I've alts as other officers to avoid the problem of malicious recalls... should I ever be wrong about who to invite in.

I consider this a non-issue. I remembered that it's my responsibility to get to know the tools before using them, and thus am protected from being blindsided. I hold myself personally responsible for the decisions I make.

Depends on how you have your group setup. If you are the only officer, and the two members are your alts, then you're absolutely right - this isn't an issue for you.

However, note that if your members are not alts, any one of them can call for a recall election in your absence, demoting you to member status - causing you to potentially lose control of your land. This tactic has been used repeatedly in the past for drama/griefing purposes.

My biggest reason for wishing my land was group held, is not so much for the 10% land bonus (I already have all the land I need). Its more to share permissions with other folks I place in charge in my absence.

In order to share these permissions, they would have to be officers, not members - which puts me at risk.

I trust these individuals completely today. But I've been around the block enough to know that when it comes to land or money, things can change, and drama and misunderstandings can happen. Unless its a family member, or someone I know personally in RL, I think I'm doing the right thing by being cautious.

But I hope the day comes when groups are restructured in such a way that this caution isn't neccesary :)

its very nice that this system gives u that special 10% but it is still in-fact borken..nowhere did it say 'officers can take all the land u just bought' when i changed the land to group. i didnt even know this could happen, i merely wanted members to be able to have a place to set there home to in jessie. there is no other way to do so in the current buggy and uninformal version of ll's 'group code'.

Consider you might be wrong.

Jessie is not a combat sandbox. Rausch is the combat sandbox. People live and own land in Jessie just as you do in your own sim or sims. If no TOS were enforced in the sim, Jessie would be unusable by everyone. Yes, we enjoy guns in Jessie. Yes, we enjoy popping other av's and being popped from time to time, but there is more. We have reporters, ship makers, builders, scripters. What don't we have? Clubs. Malls. Escorts (they'll get shot). Tringo! We don't have the run of the mill McSL that you obviously think better than Jessie.

If you don't like Jessie than feel free to stay away. But, if you feel like dropping by I will be happy to reinforce all of your preconceptions about my home.

Consider you're reading way too much into my post.

Way to miss a SUPPORTIVE post on Jessie. Next time, I suggest reading it. Thanks!

Do you have literacy in Jessie too? Just wondering.

I have to disagree. It's not broken, this is intended behavior. Someone has to have the power to do things with the land, and as there's only the two strata of users in a group, it makes sense that it would be the officers.
Now, I do agree that groups are currently without the tools we really need to make full use of them, and the tools provided for land management. But that's a defficiencey, not a bug. Documentation is also slight, but this particular issue has been mentioned repeatedly here on the forums, and is oft mentioned in-world. You can't really make the excuse of ignorance here.
Please don't claim I'm defending the actions of the one who sold the land, that was still clearly an unethical thing to do. I'm just pointing out that you had opportunity and ability to protect yourself from this.
Please don't demand this functionality be removed from the system, limited as it is, it's still has it's uses if you structure your use of it right.

I am actually surprised you chose to stoop to the level of this post. You should know forums, the first reply stating 'illiteracy' is the sign of a person who cannot defend his own argument. In a post where you claim to be supporting Jessie, you basically called us a bunch of violence loving idiots, upon whom the rules of normal sl society do not apply (the TOS). You also called our home a mere sandbox which indicates it is a free zone for anyone to build or behave as they wish given the 'riaa' rating on the sandbox. Then you choose to stoop to the level of insulting my intelligence when I remind you that this is NOT a sandbox, it is an actual living space where many of us abide the rules imposed upon us by LL. If you were trying to support us, perphaps you should read your own post to determine how it will be accepted.

Next time you reply, which I assume you will not, try making an argument instead of trying to behave like a pseudo-intellectual, and pompous son of a bitch.

You shouldn't be. I'm the resident troll around here.

Sigh, fine, let's rehash my totally assholish post line by line, so that you may better read it without your knee jerking in front of your vision.

------BEGIN OLD POST-----
From: Lordfly Digeridoo

Consider it's an all-combat sandbox.

Fine, semantic mistake. My bad. I will now recite twenty editions of the Webster's Dictionary in penance.

From: someone

Consider the people "living" there enjoy guns, violence, and atomic weaponry.

Is this quote not true? Most folks that have lived in Jessie do so because they enjoy gunplay without repercussions (ie, the Terms of Service).

From: someone

Consider that the Lindens made Jessie so that people with violent tendences can go play happy happy violence in their own little area.

This is true too, minus a slight hyperbole. The Lindens, back in beta, had an area called "The Outlands". It was chaos personified. Later it was boiled down to one Sim after a rather nasty event called "The Jessie War". Read up on your history.

From: someone

Jessie has been marginalized over and over through the years... it's the only place where I believe the normal ToS should not be enforced. That was its original intent, and yet has been whittled down to nothing more than a shitty gun showcase.

And here is my supporting statement IN FAVOR of me enjoying Jessie being a lawless, chaotic mess. It's the one place where you can expect to get shot, and not have to worry about abuse reports. Or at least it should be. Apparently folks like you have been gumming up the works lately, trying to civilize the joint. Kathy Yamamoto would not approve.

From: someone

You also called our home a mere sandbox which indicates it is a free zone for anyone to build or behave as they wish given the 'riaa' rating on the sandbox.

Welcome to SL, where the ENTIRE BLOODY WORLD is a sandbox for the users to frolick in.

And perhaps you shouldn't try to talk down to someone who's an amateur SL historian, has been here twice as long as you, is involved in the community on a daily basis, and is well-versed in insulting, forum-trolling hyperbole? Who are you again? :)

It's not much of a tactic, though.

Quite aside from having enough alts to vote down any such election, if you even just have ONE alt, leaving the group and having your officer alt reinvite you works. It's a hassle, but hey.

Combined with your other statements, this is not a stand alone thought. You seem to think you know quite a bit about Jessie and it's history. So, you should also know that Jessie is not a free-for-all-shoot-em-up since the days of the Outlands. Terms such as freedom to access individual and group land still prevails amoungst the Lindens. Once again you are mistaking Jessie for Rausch. This is not the first time you have made this mistake. If you block or impede someone from their own property you have violated the TOS. You also missed the main point, one that you chose to ignore, which is that there is more than firearms in Jessie.

I have read the history. You are still acting the pompous son-of-a-bitch role by assuming I have not. The Outlands was chaos personified, modern Jessie is occupied by landowners, not squaters. Allow your mind to change with the times Ringo. Modern Jessie is governed by the TOS as much as a resident wishes to complain to the Lindens (something we find to be a bit dishonorable, yet still exists as an option). In fact, since you know your history so well, you would also know that Kathy grouped a small plot in Jessie for the simple reason of gaining reasons to report WWii members for violating the TOS. It worked, in case you forgot.

Your statement in favor of Jessie does not benefit the residents of Jessie. Not only do you continually refer to Jessie as a Rausch sandbox, your statements 'in favor' of Jessie would 'marginalize' Jessie to nothing more than Rausch. Jessie is far from the "lawless and chaotic mess" you experienced in the old Outlands. Please feel free to wrap your bean around the present.

Those clauses have always existed, and there are many loopholes to get around that. But generally, if you go to Jessie, you can expect to be shot at. Period.

So the current residents have turned it into any other sim with ugly buildings and porn. Oh, and the occasional gun.

What a waste of a sim.

The fact that you kids have wussified the current intent of the place does not undermine it's original purpose.

Yes, now it's a ToS-governed, ugly hellhole. Do you guys even have a basic inkling of architecture? I see a lot of shacks, confederate flags, and housecubes.

The fact that precedent has been set in JEssie that basically makes it illegal to shoot people makes me sad. What's the point of living there?

You can call me Sally for all I care. The Jessie I'm hovering in now looks the exact same as it does every time I come by... Confederate flags, horrible terraforming, worse buildings. Except this time there aren't any guns shooting at me, thus negating the point of the entire fucking experiment.

The fact that you and your fellow kids ruined Jessie for today is not my point. It WAS a chaotic mess, and I liked it that way.

Look Sally. You dropped the literacy bomb, so I have responded in kind. If you find me talking down to you, please take notice who cast the first stone. As of your last post I know EXACTLY how you feel about Jessie and the residents who live there, and I am happy you hate us! It tickles my inner INTP to the core.

Despite our tones I am really enjoying this little game of tennis, but I always stop when someone starts screaming 'kids'. I do however urge you to keep your eyes on landsales over the next few months. There will be large chunk of land changing hands in Jessie. Buy it, move in for awhile, build something spectacular, and school us kids in the ways of the Digeridoo.

Guni,

<<I would like to hear your first hand stories. I just talked to Anshe and she says she doesn't even know who you are. I did a search on our CSR database and your name is nowhere to be found. It appears very unlikely to me that your claims are based on facts.>>

Well, I can tell you a thing or two about that Anshe! I know for a fact that she kicks kittens, clips her toenails into the teapot and once put itching powder into an old lady's knickers.

I have absolute proof of this. Reams of it. Photographs, signed witness accounts, a Presidential statement, the lot.

I would show it to you, but unfortunately it is so volatile that your eyes would shrivel if you tried to look at it.

Levi,

A word of advice. One thing I have discovered is that even if you feel you have been wronged in an exchange of postings, it is advisable to sit for a while and think before replying. Often you will realise that the best reply is no response at all.

I used to live in Jessie. It was great in the old days-

Yes, most of the residents were idiots, and more than likely FAR underage.

But it was fun. We tended to regulate ourselves- there was SOME Linden involvement once in a while, when someone got REALLY out of hand (perpetual auto-trackers keeping one from their own land, for example), but most of the time it was a free-for-all.

Now, yeah, it's a boring place. The other day I went AFK for almost a half an hour, floating in the sky, and I didn't die.

What's the fun in that?

its not a bug just completely uninformal inside sl..you see not everyone visits these forums..personally i cant stand them, but my time in sl is filled with my projects and i dont have time to tell the lindens that the group code sucks. nor do i wish for it to be removed..i simply want it fixed. there need to be more then 2 levels of group control...right now its complete control or no control, that makes hardly any sense.
im not even close to being the first person to be jipped by this system and i deffinetly wont be the last, what will you say to the next person it happens to? the same thing? :(
