OK, Chip, consider it this way, using just this one example:

1. The Lindens recommend a group to do a job for an outside corporation.

as opposed to

2. The Lindens create an e-mail address where anyone can submit their portfolios, etc., for consideration for such contracts. The Lindens can still recommend anyone they like. However, now they have a NUMBER of portfolios to view and consider. Among them, one or more might have more suitable builds similar to what the corporation wants to see. To be fair, the same collection of portfolios would have to available to the corporations as well.

Now, how does having (2) instead of (1) hurt anyone?

The first option is the way it was. The second option is the way it will be from now on.

THAT is exactly the sort of thing I mean by equal opportunity for all.

Again: I not only don't WANT these jobs myself, I can't imagine a time in the future when I would want them. I do not personally want to take advantage of any such contracts.

But there are over 30k subscribers to the game and it is reasonable to assume that some people MIGHT want access to it, to be considered for the work. Now they can be. And nobody is hurt by that.

This is really getting old. The portfolio submission was Second Life itself. The grid was the submission point. NO ONE has ever stepped up to the plate like Bedazzle has. No one has managed to generate the grid-wide impact they did. If you don't have a proven track record and you haven't knocked it out of the park like Bedazzle has, time and again, you weren't worth considering for such an important project. Simple as that. Opportunities are created with blood and sweat, not given like foil-wrapped candies.

edit: Also, please stop mistaking talent for the ability to get a job done.

I'm also impressed that you've backed off of calling this great success an "problem" and an "incident." Like I said before, it's amazing how reluctant you are to smear people as unduly favored when they suddenly stop being vague "FIC" and suddenly crystalize as real, breathing humans. What you don't realize is that they're humans all along.

The question is not, and has never been, whether Bedazzled isn't far and away the best choice for the job. Just as the question is not, and has never been, whether or not Snapzilla is the best choice for its job. What's questionable is the process.

Yes, Bedazzled is unduly favored when they are recommended without having the process open to everyone, so I don't back off from that. They will NOT be unduly favored, however, when and if they are STILL chosen after a process where everyone had an opportunity to bring their own work to the attention of the Lindens and of the companys involved, and thus even got to be in the running.

Try to think of a growing game. We have 30k subscribers now. Any and all of these instances of just plucking people from the ones the Lindens already happen to know, and know of, is not going to work in the long term. It won't work for pragmatic reasons, as well as the fact that it just won't sit well with people. In fact, it already isn't working.

Anyway, I am done with this for the time being. This is my last word on it in this thread, because we could all go on forever. Of course, that's just me; others may still have something to add.

You just don't 'get it', do you, Cocoanut? You basically decided to 'defend Hitler' and you're suffering the result of that choice. Pure and simple. You decided it was more important to defend someone who consistantly, persistantly, and deliberately worked to make as big a mess of these forums as humanly possible than to take the time to see beyond your bias or simply get informed.

No one forced you to do it. You did it. You to yourself. The funny part is, you just can't bring yourself to accept that you really stepped in it, you apparently are convinced that if you just explain it right, everyone will nod and smile and say it's ok.

Guess what? They won't. They never will. Not because 'they hate you' and not because 'they hate prok' but because you actively supported leniency for someone who everyone knows was doing their best to disrupt and disturb as many people as possible. AND you did so as someone who didn't have a freaking clue what was happening and jumped in like, somehow, you were better informed than the people who had been putting up with it.

You screwed up. Royally. And in the process, brought the social machine upon your head. The only way you're getting past it as far as the community goes is to have enough sense to shut up on it and let it be forgotten. But, as we see, you can't do that... so I doubt seriously it will ever improve for you.

Add to this, you have spent an inordinate amount of time trying to find a way to get 'your buddy' back in here, which indicates all too clearly to all that not only do you not 'get it', you actively thumb your nose at everyone who endured that disruption.... as if, somehow, no one's feelings count except yours and 'your buddy'.

To mutilate a phrase -- You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make some folks think.

Oh well.

As far as the IRC channel goes, puhhhleeze. The person who started the effort may as well plaster a sign on their forehead that reads, 'Please! Please! Like me, too!' Whatever. (shrug) If they were too stupid to realise that it would be taken as a deliberately effort to divide or siphon off from an established community, that's their problem, not mine.

Half the problem of these forums is the need of the ones with a terminal case of self-loathing to find some degree of acceptance. The other half is the tantrums they pitch when they do not get it.

Edit: Almost forgot -- insofar as the building contract goes -- have a nice big cup of 'Get the fuck over it'. Last time I checked, subscribing to a game doesn't give you executive power over how they run their company.

The most important lesson I ever learned about the internet came when I was 12. I learned to lurk. Lurking for awhile guarantees you don't start off on a bad foot with the community you seek to join, since no one is compelled to accept you just because you want in. Here's more about lurking.

I wouldn't be so sure. Neualtenburg was blasted heavly by your friend for winning our contest, yet that contest *was* open to all. I personally think some will find an issue no matter what happens.

OMG DROP IT, DROP IT DROP IT DROP IT.

I am trying to ignore your post but I CANT. It is like a friggin train wreck, I cant help but look at the disaster. You just keep rambling about the same crap. We got your point in the other threads where you repeatedly said the same thing.

If you dont want the work, then DROP IT. You say there are 30k subscribers, bla bla bla. How about letting one of those 30k speak up if it is such an issue. No one else is though, because you are blowing a non-issue up into an over talked about non-issue. Maybe then someone will feel compelled to discuss it without a conspiracy undertone .

As someone else said, GIVE IT A BREAK

When I was just a few days old in Second Life. I needed some help getting familiar with LSL. A good friend of mine told me to visit #secondlife. I was hesitant at first because of all the "FIC" talk. I thought I was walking into a trap set up by the mean popular kids. What I found was 30-40 people all willing to help me. I felt very welcomed and left with a great impression of these folk who people call FIC.

I even witnessed these same people, who supposedly have power in LL, argue over some function being taken away out of LSL. Did the Lindens listen? Yes. Did they reverse the decision to take away this command? NOPE. This really made me realize, there is no FIC.

What I did learn though, is that Prokofy and his side kick are trying to do nothing more than destroy the name of some reputable people in Second Life. They use scare tactics that are based on lies. The people who hang in #secondlife went above in beyond to help me.

I swear, this should be stickied. The insidiousness and bile of envious people who lack the ability to socialize or the insight to understand why it is necessary in the world will never cease to astound me. But if a new player can see it this clearly, I am comforted that the ploy of the sour grapes still fails. :)

I'm sorry that you are sick of people who type to ask questions to LEARN the facts.

Anyway, I'm with you. This is all a bummer. I'm gonna go play me a game, or somethin. :)

coco

You dont ask questions - you accuse - you insinuate - and you go after the wrong targets. You have always accused. Many times you accuse without having all the facts. A great example of this is your defense of the indefensible Prokofy Neva. You didn't bother to educate yourself on the facts before diving into the fray. Those facts being that your blessed friend attacked certain individuals and groups systematically and mercilessly. And you continue to defend him and call for his reinstatement. I guarantee you, if you had to deal with a wolf like Prokofy hammering away at you, day in, day out, you would pop your cork, like you do regularly here on the forums.

STOP WITH THE DOUBLE STANDARD. Do you like that? CAPS. Does it make it easier for you to understand IF I TYPE IN YOUR LANGUAGE?

Is LL perfect? No.

Will they ever be perfect? No.

This utopian ideal you have is based upon communistics ideals. You know - the ideals your buddy supposedly hates.

If you ever want to develop any respect from this community, stop attacking it and direct your energy toward LL itself, because that is where your beef lies.

Running around shouting "fire" to the other residents, and attacking them for their achievements is a big waste of time, and makes you look foolish.

Yes, thats exactly what they are trying to do. But the effort to destroy reputable people in SL pales in comparison to the first part of your post. You were afraid to go into #SecondLife to get the assistance you needed because of all the FIC talk. THAT is the bread and butter of the fifth column.

New users are the most unfortunate victims in this campaign. They are told to be afraid of the very people who CAN help them and WANT TO help them. They are told that their efforts will never be rewarded with success because the FIC has it locked up. Experienced users of SL are able to see through the propaganda, but sadly new users are vulnerable to the effects of this dismal protrayal of SL.

Exactly! This is also a reason why I continue to visit other 3rd party sites and events hosted by certain people. It is my hope to be able to counter some of the lies and misrepresentations that are being presented to new residents of SL. I'm often the only one in a sea of viciousness, but I'll continue to put myself through it if there is even one new person in SL that I can help educate to the fact that the person they are hearing from just may not be correct on everything they are saying.

<3 !

I don't know if I have the emotional fortitude to take that kind of abuse, but I may try to tag along with you to one of the in-world events. If nothing else, I can give my side of the story on what my motives are.

...and it's all done under the guise of wanting to make SL a better place for new users! It continues to blow my mind that a few people can be so malicious, or if they don't see how wrong they are that they can be so bloody blind and misguided. Do they not see the damage they do or do they just not give a shit?

Unfortunatly I can't. :( I only know you as a warm fox. Both when you are furry and not! ;)

Aimee, It is an eye opener to say the least. And by all means, *not* going alone as a sheep among the wolves would be ideal. :)

Going with friends sounds better, but I can already hear their rhetoric ringing in my ears. A few of us going to correct misconceptions and expess our side of the story would be reported in the SL Herald as:

FIC MOB STORMS PEACEFUL EVENT
"oh the humanity" says injured onlooker

None of the above - blindness to the effects of one's own actions is many times a side effect of extreme self-righteousness.

haha! I can see that as well. Sad it has to be that way. :(

Especially when it would be one of the few times some of us ever got to see each other in world. :p
