I'm curious what months you were around, Eboni. I think before I became a regular, I don't recall seeing your name on the list at any point. Anyway, I have to side with Lo. Everyone seems damn polite, particularly with newbies. Occasionally, a question might go ignored, since it's IRC and people go do other things sometimes.

Ohh I don't use this name. I use my IRC name, and it is a really old one, I have used it since 1993

I wish you would come back and hang out with us. You're the only person I know in SL whose candor vastly exceeds my own. As you know, this pleases me to no end.

I don't argue with the fact that people can get bitchy on IRC -- Internet fact -- I'm just saying I haven't seen it, personally. I'm not that familiar with IRC, but from what I have experienced, most of the #secondlife crowd is pretty helpful.

Please do not stroke her ego, she is already a complete and utter diva.

I did NOT launch into ANY "full conspiracy mode". I just do not get what you are getting at. A person said, something like, "oh, the irc channel, it has to contain 10 parts snark and sarcasm" or something like that. Someone ELSE said that. *I* did NOT SAY that. I made a JOKE that people must practice in the (one official) channel then come in here, the (one official) forums, to do it.

I said that because I haven't HEARD it happen on IRC because I haven't BEEN on Irc, except once, and I was trying to see it while also playing the game, I think. It involved minimizing a lot and just not working. I remember Enabran was in there at the time. Finally I apologized for just not being able to do the IRC and anything else at the same time and left.

So here I am, thinking there is one IRC channel for the game, which I already knew wasn't really officially made by the game, but the Lindens hang out in it, and it is the only place where people can go to talk. The NAME of it, "#SecondLife," SUGGESTS that it is the only chat room.

Now string me up and flay me alive for not knowing how IRC channels work, but I DID NOT. So here it is, this one channel, which isn't official, really, but definitely that's all there is. And folks who like it are saying it is an exceptionally snarky place. So I make the joke. Where the CRAP does that make me a "conspiracy theorist"?

I mean, YOU tell ME. YOU'RE the one who called me that name.

Now come to find out, Blaze is starting another one. THEN come to find out, right after that, that PLAYERS actually run the "#SecondLife" channel and also kick people OUT of it. Well, hey, that's DEFINITELY not anywhere like what I thought it was. No WONDER some people may not like it there, they might not feel comfortable with the place run by players, as they might not be friends with those players, or agree with their viewpoints or whatever.

I did NOT LAUNCH INTO A FULL CONSPIRACY MODE for God's sake. I do not see how you can possibly conclude that! And guess what, you know, I don't launch into conspiracy modes about ANY DAMN THING and I'm getting SICK AND TIRED OF BEING ACCUSED OF IT EVERY TIME I OPEN MY MOUTH. VERY sick and tired of it.

My views on the world are generally pretty mainstream, with quite a number of others who agree with me on any given thing, and you do not GET to call me crazy over and over on these threads.

I'm also getting REALLY FED UP with this business where people accuse me in other thread of posting for another player or even BEING another player.

I don't know if it's libel or slander or what, but I'm certain that legally it's not allowed to happen - especially not for MONTHS - whether or not our names are avatar names, especially since real-world money is involved in this game.

You know, THAT'S the real story here. Piss me off enough and I might stop just trying to play the game myself and being friends with the people in it and start writing articles about how some players think the entire playground belongs to them alone and run everybody else off they like, and secondly, look into what legal measures I can take.

This has been going on for MONTHS now, and I have about HAD it with it. It is nothing more than continuing false libel, or slander, or whatever the right word is for it, and the Lindens SHOULD NOT ALLOW IT TO GO ON in these boards. And ganging up on people to do it, too. Running them off the boards and off the game. That's a scandal.

We are ALL PAYING SUBSCRIBERS and we DO NOT DESERVE to be subject to campaigns of ongoing libel conducted unhindered by a group of other players.

And Flipper the day I decide to DISH OUT SOMETHING PERSONAL ABOUT YOU INDIVIDUALLY, let me tell you you will not like it. Because unlike you, I won't drag some preconceived and innacurate hypothesis out of the air, because I'll do my homework and I'll nail you good if there's any nailing to be had. But that's neither here nor there, since I'm not ever going to do any such thing.

Pardon me, Coco. The vast majority of your response is not pertinent to this discussion. As much as you'd like to vent, please either start a new thread to do so or take it to private messages. You're welcome to be upset and you're welcome to vent about it if you'd like. However, this discussion is not about favoritism, or alternate accounts, or libel, or slander. This discussion is about a new IRC channel. Those of us who are interested in that topic would like to remain here to discuss or listen to discussions about that subject without having the thread closed or devolving into another drama thread.

Actually, this would be the best thing you could do. For any of us! What the fifth column needs is to sharpen their pencils, get all the facts, then sock it to us. Rather than using pop acronyms with as many definitions as there are readers, name a name. Rather and hinting, or suggesting, or using conjecture, whip out the facts!

Rather than:

"Aimee led the shunning, er...aimee was a part of the shunning, er...well aimee was never SEEN doing anything when it came to shunning, but you know she incited and emboldened others in the way she posts in general"

I would like someone to say:

"Aimee did such-and-such. There is no way it could have happened any other way. Here is the evidence..."

So, it's against the law to dislike coco. That's very good to know.

edit: I just got off the phone with an IP attorney I know. She said she couldn't recall anything from her bar exam about liking or disliking coco as a civil or criminal offense. So .

I'm really about at the end of my rope with all this. And for anyone new reading this, I'm not the first one to be subjected to this kind of treatment in a forum which is SUPPOSEDLY open to all and SUPPOSEDLY doesn't allow personal attacks. I'm not the first, and I won't be the last. And the Lindens don't give a damn.

Yes. I was talking about the fifth column, a force that tries to erode and destroy something from within, often using it's target's very own resources against it.

In reference to Second Life, I am talking about a small group of players who calculate every move, every post, and every action so that it can do the most damage to the game. This SL Fifth Column interprets every event in SL in the worst possible light and loudly proclaims disaster at every turn. It tries to convince any user within range that success will never be theirs and that they should just stop trying. SL's Fifth Column posts lengthy, taunting messages in hopes of derailing threads and disrupting productive dialog.

They work like griefers, but rather than using brute force to crash sims or attack avatars, they use propaganda and cast aspersions to erode confidence. The ultimate goal of SL's Fifth Column is bad press for Second Life and the holy grail is to have Second Life condemned by a major industry publication.

I wish you could express the same passion when you yourself are conducting a campaign against most of the community. Pot, Kettle, Hypocrite. I hope you can reflect upon this thread the next time you think about typing "FIC". I also don't remember you rushing to Cristiano's defense when that great libel King, your bestest buddy from "glorious" TSO was committing libel against him and his website.



I also must say in my 12 or so years on the internet involved with communities I have never seen libel tossed around so liberally. I think it has about 5 uses before it has no meaning whatsoever.
