Sure I'll let it go, I've given my opinion, as others are doing on this thread - it doesn't match the majority of you, but that's the mystery and diversity of life.
I'll just go and be sick quietly in the corner whilst you all continue yet another Linden Love In, this week's episode where a Linden breaks the rules then gets heaped in praise for saving their own ass. Huzzah!

Huzzah! Would you rather Path simply said nothing? Slink into a corner and lick his wounds? I surely wouldnt and I do believe he did what was right. When Im wrong about something Ive done I will apologize. It would help the forums a lot if everyone did stand up and take responsibility for their actions.

I'm glad to see that Pathfinder has apologised, but I just don't agree with this outpouring of praise for the apology. It's an apology that had to be made in order for him to be able to continue doing the job he has. That's all. My problem isn't with the apology, it's the way you're all being quite sycophantic in how you're dealing with it.

Your heart felt apology accepted Pathfinder. Though SL is a Game, and an Excellent! one too - despite your passion for SL - not putting your job in harm's way is of first concern. I'm certain you've learned a valuable lesson - and I'm hopefully the rest of us have also.

Since his introduction, Pathfinder has been my favorite Linden. I appreciate his frankness and I think that his often less-than robotic façade is his most endearing feature.

But even now when I apologize it can be accepted or rejected. This is decided by each individual that reads it. I happen to accept Paths, and thank him for it.

To admit one's mistake in a public forum takes a certain level of professionalism, even if one may have been under instructions from management to do so. He could have just as easily said "take this job and shove it" instead. Heck knows it would've crossed my mine.
No matter what the reasons, if a person apologizes and it is meant, then one should accept their apology with a little attempt at grace. Even a pressured apology is worth more than no apology at all.

I happen to accept Paths, and thank him for it. You're absolutely right, which is why I said earlier about the mystery and diversity of life. You don't need to apologise for misunderstanding what I was saying, the way you write isn't always as clear as you think it might be. But...I also accept the apology. I welcome it. But I don't view it for anything other than what I feel it to be - a pre-requisite to continue performing the job he does, which takes me back to the point I've been making.

(Though emphatic works too, just wasn't my point. ) People are supporting him - IMHO - because they know how it feels to have made a mistake, especially one from actions meant well, and that mistake having potentially dire consequences. Not a comfortable position *at all*. It's good to have support, helps you get past feelings of self-loathing (pardon the hyperbole).

Maybe that's something I'm missing at times because of my cynicism towards much that happens. Yeah, I'll admit that. I've been shaped by many things which I guess has turned me more to the "dark side" in that respect (couldn't resist slipping that reference in, I apologise profusely for that).

What point is served by not accepting someone's apology and supporting them for it? It was such a minor trangression it doesn't even deserve all this hoopla. If all I've seen and heard from someone is what appears to me to be a good faith effort to do a good and fair job why would I assume they had some other motives? Who cares if they did? It takes humility to make a public apology, even if you're made to do it.
If the person who is the source of 90% of the forum drama showed a bit of humility, offered an apology now and then, and showed any kind of good faith effort to not be such a thorn in people's sides the forum would be a much better place... and we wouldn't all be sitting here talking about fallout from that person's behavior. Let's try and keep some perspective, shall we?

Really though, well-said, Jillian, and who's to know whether some mistakes are really mistakes? Pathfinder's story is not yet over... like the name would seem to imply... he is finding his own path among us in SL. @_@
