When you give away free money, people feel no need to go out and create income. And in the real world we aren't thrown directly into facing the economy upon our "creation." Our "free money" comes from our parents. Without stipends, newbies would be required to go to GOM before they could really do much of anything. _____________________

There is NO government interference in SL... there is NO government...
Linden Labs is a BUSINESS, Linden Labs is NOT A GOVERNMENT. The TOS states clearly that the products created by people in game are their intellectual property, and that Linden Lab is Not responsible for user created content although they can remove harmful content (see section 6 of the TOS ) Basically I dont see how we are NOT a free market. _____________________

The US is a free market economy but it is regulated. Hong Kong is a fre market economy with very little regulation. It works for people when they are doing well, but works against them when the economy isnt doing well and leaves no protection for consumers. Are we all enrolling in Econ 101? |

Which is why some of these types or threads in which folks try to mold SL into something it's not, or present it as something it's not, tend to get my attention. It's a wonderful, new type of environment where we enjoy an unprecedented amount of freedom in many avenues whether they be creating content, socializing, politics, making some spare RL $ (economics), what have you, isn't that enough? There is such a thing as being too overzealous with one's hobbies or interests especially when people presume to speak for the good of all SLers with respect to economics and government, the two things that do/can/would/could affect us all. Shouldn't one need to spend more than a month or so in SL to be able to accurately assess what is or isn't needed for SL as a whole? _____________________

There is too much government interference with the economy. When I said keep the free market earlier, I was under the mistaken impression SL had a free market. As I am new to SL, I only later realized that we exist in a socialist state. Also, LL is too involved in the judicial process. They just need to let the market solve everything. Player run governments are totally anathama to SL's success. It would only create favortism, corruption, and fifedoms. LL needs to stick to the free market. |
